SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Got my booster yesterday morning, tested positive this morning

it’s completely floored me.
I had my booster yesterday and feel unbelievably rough today - much worse than I did after my first two. I feel like I’m walking in quicksand and my temperature is up and down, not to mention the massive headache.

Gonna do a test now because it didn’t even occur to me that I might actually also have Covid, which is of course possible, especially considering how busy vaccine centres are.

Was supposed to be seeing Spider-Man today but all the cinemas are absolutely rammed - unbelievable really considering the state of the UK at the moment with Omicron. Not sure I’d feel comfortable nearly 3 hours with more than 100 non mask wearing people (don’t have to wear while you eat and drink, which in the case of anyone at the cinema, is an invite not to have it on the whole movie).

Sorry, typo - that should have said the start of December. I'll edit the post.
That makes more sense :) Should have known it is a typo but as there was a rise also in early November, got confused.

Ohh okkay, I see what you’re saying. Yes you’re right, it can seem confusing for that very reason.

…I did mention that to my oncologists but maybe they missed that too? I really don’t know what to think atm. Because when I asked them and wanted clarification, I remember my main doc, her saying along the lines of “16+ booster for after completing the primary series. ‘Primary series’ falls under eua according to their statement (specifically the 2nd body, 1st sentence where it says available for 5+ under eua as two-dose “primary series”) from what I can tell”.

I do however get what you’re alluding to with the 1st body. Maybe I can pop by and re-mention again for the sake of clarity but when I mentioned the judge in the US thats pressing this (for the same reason aka clarity/confusion), she said it’s correct as far as she knows.

Thanks for your time and putting up with me :nervous:

No worries. Glad we were able to clarify things for you.

Definitely get tested too. It got to a point where I just realised there was no way the booster was doing all this , I pretty much had the same symptoms as you.

For anyone interested (I.e no one) I had my booster yesterday, Pfizer (same as my original two).

No real symptoms again thankfully. But I feel like my arm is much more sore / aching a lot more than the last two times (ached then too, but less).

I’m thinking it’s because the guy it in a lot higher - same muscle but feel like closer to the shoulder than before. Is that a potential reason or just is what it is?

sucks. How do you feel? Haven’t had my booster yet because I tested positive before being able to book it but aye, been feeling rough the past few days. Banging headache, lack of energy, body ache, a tickly cough and tight chest (feels like my ribs are being crushed). Hope you feel better soon!

Ok sure, I can understand that people have concernes over the unknown. Please let me try to appease your concerns.

We're primarily using the pfizer/moderna vaccines now which contain mRNA technology.

Messenger RNA was discovered in the 1960s, researched with cell delivery in the 1970s and underwent research to develop into a flu vaccination in the 1990s. a vaccine using mRNA technology was approved for human clinical trials in 2013 for a rabies vaccine.

The challenge of mRNA is how do you make the lipid nanoparticles that work as a exterior shell work with the mRNA which translates into the appropriates spike protein that triggers the immune response. The reason for the interim between testing and finally a working vaccine relies a lot on funding. When Covid hit the money available to find a working vaccine was near endless, and the bureaucratic process was speedlined and prioritized over absolutely everything else. A simple analogy would be to carry a full glass of water over a mountain, but you can't spill a drop. Normally you want to walk safe. Now with new shoes you could run at full tilt, but you still arrive at the other end with all your water in the glass. If its all there, the vaccine gets approved. Anything missing? Go back to the lake for a new glass.

No steps were cut, but the full weight of everything was available to them. Resources, finances, equipment and personel.

Side effects from vaccinations are indcredibly rare. (Worst case documented in 60 years is around 120 in 1 million or so if im not mistaken) Most people who develop any symptom at all after a vaccine see symptoms within the first two months, the vast majority of those again within the first few days. Covid-19 however has a list of potential long term side effects that incluce what we saw in patients with SARS: permanent lung scarring, Autoimmune conditions, chestpain, fatigue and tiredness/shortness of breath. I've seen interviews with 20 year olds in Norwegian newspapers who say they had Covid earlier in the year before they got vaccinated and now can't even get up a set of stairs without taking a break.

If we go back as far as the 1960s since the Polio vaccination program, there are no long term side effects from vaccinations. Not one.

mRNA has been used in trials for influenza, Zika virus, rabies and even cancer treatment. Its so incredibly well documented and tested.

Those who have concerns about the long term side effects of the covid vaccine generally don't have concerns based on medical data, but public opinion of those who are for one reason or another against getting vaccinated, period. For a reason that's summarized quickly as "Because I don't want to".

Its a ever moving goalpost that at the first stage of the vaccination program was moved to the corner flag at Old Trafford, but now it's used as a waypoint for rowers outside of Madagascar.
Can you come to my office and hold a lecture for Two people? I seems to remember you live up north in Norway, so Stockholm is a short trip

What are the chances of contracting Omicron for a Pfizer triple-jabbed individual? Is there any data on that?

I dont think it protects you from contracting it. It just reduces the symptoms.

Yes.

Nobody knows.

The only real life data they have on vaccine efficacy vs omicron comes from South Africa where nobody is boosted.

These data showed a double jabbed person is 33% less likely to get infected and 70% less likely to end up in hospital compared to someone who isn’t vaccinated (equivalent figures are 80% and 93% for delta)

You would expect a booster dose to increase those %’s quite significantly.

Thanks for the informative post. Nice to see someone who engages people who disagree with a measured approach! You seem to have quite a lot of knowledge about the subject - do you predict biannual booster jabs, and, if so, for how long? Or will this be like the flu jab that needs to be taken annually? If so, presumably everyone above 5 (or perhaps even lower the way things are going?) will need to have an annual jab?

This really is tiresome.

Your use of the word incoherent is incoherent.

  • The present, incoherent system does need reform. - because it is unclear
  • The theory was outdated and incoherent. - and therefore unclear
It's what the word means you pedantic belligerence engine you.

Something can be clear but not logical or well organised. And therefore incoherent. I don't understand what you don't understand. But I don't think anyone else is interesting in this discussion continuing. DM me if you must.

tbh similar symptoms - banging headache, body ache, awful fever. Though curiously nothing of note in the coughing/chest area. My sense of smell and taste seems for the most part intact so far too.

Hope you and your wife recover well soon.

It was reported by our own "experts" at 75% of stopping symptomatic illness just the other day for the booster.

I got my first shot really close to the shoulder. Didn't feel anything. To the point that i was questioning if i got the vaccine at all.

I am booked for the booster next week. Will be part of the 3x Pfizer gang soon as well :D

It really is. Don't use words if you don't know what they mean could be a potential solution for you.

Had my Moderna booster yesterday and have woken up with a dull but uncomfortable pain in the left hand side of my chest, just under my left nipple. Gets worse when I breath in. Could have just slept funny I guess but my minds racing.

Feeling any better?

This was what I was getting at about omicron blowing up testing capacity in next few weeks.
For sure. I think we'll see PCR testing falling to a crawl - turnround from test request to result could easily hit 5 days even if we ration the lab capacity in some way. Chances are the results will take longer than the incubation time.

I think we'll hear more about acting on LFT result only for some cases.

Boris press conference at 5pm. More restrictions incoming?
They'll stick to boosters and tests I think. We'll probably hear them start to ramp up the advice (maybe like Scotland?) but I doubt we'll hear actual regulations coming in.
