SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

I heard the coast/parks and clontarft/dollymount were rammed yesterday. Is that a result of the pointless 5km rule.? why cant we go to another county as long as we are outdoors and away from people?
Meehole is just a disaster and Leo is just sniping an easy target from the long grass.
Its all doom and gloom. At this point I am cracking mentally and everytime a new government communication appears its like a contradiction to what the last fella says. Then our NPHET leaders tell us something even more different again on some other media conduit.
The cure is worse than the disease now at this point and the infuriating thing is that we are a year in and there is no apparent plan. The answer to everything is lock the people up for the foreseeable future with the hope of maybe meeting a friend for a coffee in August. feck this.

Then we will be in restrictions for ever. Because the waiting list has exisited for ever. Their answer to waiting lists is to lock people up? feck me.
I stopped listening last week. I think its a shambles. I dont think NPEHT should even be allowed to speak to the media.
I don’t think Holohan or NPEHT consider the effects of lockdown whatsoever.

Yeah public opinion has totally shifted. Never saw the parks in Dublin busier yesterday, everyone just out and about enjoying the sun. And can you really blame people when our hopeless taoiseach won't even address the nation and just keeps leaking "six more weeks" to the media instead? Or then Leo saying the opposite at every turn. or them all saying different things. There being no roadmap to speak of, no indication as to when we can actually do anything, and we still haven't even vaccinated over 85's. They bow to everything NPHET say except when it's actually a terrible idea to not to do like giving people a "meaningful Christmas". The whole thing is a shambles, but what would you expect from an FFG government.

They don't even give a toss about the old people dying from this, their only concern is making sure the health service that they ruined isn't shown up to be the pile of shite it is.
That just pisses me off hearing that, we can blame the government for many things but people need to apply common sense too

I don’t think that’s fair. There’s going to be hundreds of thousands of people within 5k of all our parks. Many of them without any outdoor space of their own. Why can’t they hang out outdoors on a sunny day?

That's his style, he ruffs it up on purpose before interviews to play up to his clown image.
I know that but it's just stupid. If I went out in public like that my partner would want to strangle me. Not in an erotic asphyxia way either

Mrs Volumiza has been invited to have her jab. She's 47, I am her toyboy at just 45. She sounded surprised and said she expected me to be first due to a history of asthma, I told her they're clearly focussing on the elderly first. Either that or her Crohnes Disease is a factor. Seems quick anyway.
What's it like in the dog house?

Probably the Crohn's and definitely if she is on immunosuppressant medication like Azathioprine to control it.
We are currently doing over 65s in the vaccine priority list but many areas also the 16-64 with certain health conditions that makes them more vulnerably.
Asthmatics do fall in that list but only if having needed emergency hospital admission recently or recurrent oral steroid use.

Vaccine clinics are running very quickly and smoothly once we get supplies in. Very tiring though, have to be on our feet the whole day and voice sore from consenting. Nightmare for our admin teams though who have to contact patients on short notice and arrange things logistically.

Thanks for this and thanks for your efforts.

Cross mixing? Against the guidelines for now?

look maybe I’m being harsh but I’ve been cocooning for nearly a year, doing what we’re advised to whilst others just seem to do whatever they want. I just feel that we need one last community push to get the numbers down.

Well Phoenix Park is within a 5km range of a lot of people, so where do you expect them to go on the first nice day of the year? If you limit people in the most densely populated county in the country to 5km then what do you expect to happen?

it's an idiotic rule, the 5km. Plenty of space across the country for people to go outside and chill but with the 5k you are essentially confining busy places like Dublin to single parks so naturally they will end up over crowded.

Opening schools at once. Should have split it up a little, and give all school staff the vaccine in advance.

Wouldn't be surprised if there is a significant enough increase to delay the stages from then

Ah c'mon, how many times has this been said?

What happens when numbers go down anyway? Schools go back, then construction reopens, then they go back up. it's nonsense. Where is this whole "living with Covid" plan we've been hearing so much about? By all accounts "living with it" doesn't mean making everyone cocoon every time cases go up a bit.

Well I keep hearing this “under 100” magic number on the news, we’re at what, just under 700 a day at the mo?

anyway I’m just pissed off. I’m sick of the area I live in being the highest in the entire country. They’re all dumbfcuks round here. Even Paul Donnelly (SF) had to tell people to stop congregating around the village

They’re on the news now saying they need more guards to patrol the parks after yesterday. Makes me think Phoenix park was jammers

The question is do teachers deserve it sooner than those in the priority groups?

Yes, as they will be the ones amongst hundreds of kids each day - then can take it back home with them potentially infecting their own families.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Unions kick off more about this.

I think they do. Especially ones working in nursery or with younger children which makes social distancing difficult in the workplace.

Hopefully things are looking up now. I'd love to be able to go back to some form of normality.

I despise the Tories but they have been excellent with the vaccination rollout imo.

Patrol the fecking parks! Jesus where is this going to end.

It is the ludicrous 5km rule that is driving people to the parks in the first place.
I am going to my local park 100 times a week as is everyone else and honestly its getting congested on the pathways.

Yeah if we try to walk through our local “park”, it’s busy and not a mask in sight

Such an empty threat. Well 'ard.
Not sure if you've read his entire thread or just that tweet but I don't think he's trying to be 'well hard'. He's just saying if it goes beyond that point he'll be ruined anyway so that's when he'll have reached such a point of desperation.

Stupid setting out this road map, saying it is based on data, when basically no one has a clue what is going to happen, how effective the vaccines are going to be, what elements the new variants are going to play. Even the most knowledgeable experts don't seem to have the vaguest idea of what's going to happen when people start mingling again.

I get everyone wants certainty, but offering false certainty is just nonsense. I also get that the country is borrowing money at an unsustainable rate and that needs to end soon. But there is every chance that as soon as we open a new variant will spread and we will be back to square one.

Government needs to be honest, with people about that. Boris said he was going to be data lead this certainly isn't data lead its "hope" lead

Well they couldn't even get it down under 300 in November so I'm not sure how they can expect to get it under 100. It's ridiculous. Hospital admissions are surely what matters and they are way down again by now.

Hopefully as vaccinations ramp up and cases stay low the government will get a bit of cop on and open the fecking country up but I remain pessimistic.

A lot of industries make it difficult to socially distance though.

I'm not disagreeing, just playing devil's advocate. It would've made sense to vaccinate teachers before sending kids back to school but I've not heard the argument against it other than teachers not being at significantly higher risk.

Won't be square one though will it. Is there any variant which isn't covered by the current vaccines?

Phoenix Park, I haven't thought of that place for years! My dad and uncle used to take me there whenever we visited my Grandparents and other relatives. That's just taken me right back.

Its based on data modeling, and roadmaps are never plans set in stone. Its stupid not to have any sort of framework people can atleast work around. Do you just want them to come out and say "we are playing it by ear"? That's practically what they did at the start...and that was a catastrophe

I eagerly look forward to all of the Caf posters who, over the years, have mentioned Diane Abbot getting her numbers wrong as reasons not to vote Labour applying the same logic to this clip.

I really wish people would realise that bringing up Diane Abbot every single time someone speaks like an idiot, detracts from the fact that someone has just spoke like an idiot.

Yeah, from what I remember. Last I was over there they'd demolished almost the whole area where my Grandparents lived. I really need to do a visit, not been since I lost my dad, good few years now, sadly I live further than 5k :)

Where was your grandparents area?

yes, that is what I want them to say, cos that's exactly what they are doing, setting any kind of road map when absalutly no one has a clue whats going to happen is pointless. It just sets people expectations based on data modelling that no one knows if its even vaguely accurate. Its just nonsense.

Last year they acted like they knew what they were doing, when they clearly didn't and there doing exactly the same again! Its far better to say "we don't know" then act as you do know!
