Ryan Giggs the football player is one of my all time favorites, and a player i already miss watching. I hope he goes on to have a great career in management, or whatever it is he decides to do.

I have to say I am relieved about this.

Although he is a club legend I feel as a club we need to turn over a new leaf. As others have stated I think it is good for both parties. Giggsy has been a superb player and loyal servant to the club over the years but he needs to go away and prove himself as a manager and work his way up like the majority of others have to. He was never going to be entitled to managing one of the biggest clubs in the world just because of his ability on the pitch.

If I am honest I was never going to be comfortable with him taking over as manager, the reason for that is because I don't actually believe he will ever be up for the job. Much like many of the other ex-players that have gone on to be managers will never be up for it. I think he will most likely end up going the same route as someone like Mark Hughes perhaps. He will never become our manager in my opinion, unless he does something unbelievable managing at a smaller club.

Football is constantly become more cut-throat as the popularity increases and we are not immune from it. I believe that even when Mourinho goes we will go for success over tradition. Which in a way is already starting to be the case with the appointment of Jose. Although I don't ever think we will become as bad as a club like Madrid we are definitely heading in that direction.

Anyway that is besides the point. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours :)

It is sad, but it's also the right call. Would be madness to have him around the first team when it is so clear that he wants the big job.

Scholes was not being put forward as the next manager of MUFC.
Had he been touted as the next manager, you can bet that people would want him to leave the club asap, to avoid any possible chance of him becoming the manager.
But he's not going to be manager and given we've just appointed one it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. The rejoicing seems a little silly. And it wasn't me that made the comparison.

this is good news, it's about time we got rid of him.

Now go prove you've got what it takes to lead a club

This shouldn't be about him leaving to prove himself in the eyes of some armchair presidents. It's about an ex-player who gave everything to this club from his youth, finally leaving the club. Very sad day.

Disappointed, and at the same time understandable why he needs move. If he wishes to be United's manager in the future he needs to serve his apprenticeship elsewhere.

He has given us so many great memories. I wish him every success.

Found this classic from the early 90s.
Ryan Giggs Secret and Skills. Used to have this on VHS back in the day. Watch as Ryan Giggs mercilessly in this DVD takes it round near-infants using roulette spins; a feat which would ultimately make Michael Owen proud in his own soul-destroying 'Skills' video.

Had that in VHS as well, watched it over and over again!

Was at OT when he made his debut. Sad to see him go but definitely the right decision. Needs to go and earn the right to come back as manager if that is what he craves.

He showed a level of loyalty to Man Utd that his Brother & Ex-Wife can only dream of....

Its a sad day, but the right decision.

THE legend of legends.

Thanks for everything Giggsy :(

From the first until the last, not only a club and British legend but well respected across the globe.

Thank you for the memories and good luck with your future projects.

Since he's seen Moyes at work (and thus learned how to *not* do things), as well as LvG (and learned about the abstract concepts of philosophy and how to bewilder the press, among other things) it would be fitting if he stayed on as assistant for another year and picked up a few things from Mou (the art of winning by hook or by crook, especially). That would have completed his managerial education. Well, I hope he remembers enough from his ample time under SAF to be able to learn it himself. It would be romantic indeed to have him back as manager here, but it seems a little too much to hope for. Wish him all the luck for his future endeavours (err, in his professional life, strictly speaking).

Its weird for me with Giggs. Was one of my favourite players when I was a kid, well my favourite actually (was the first player I had heard of ) but over the years I became more annoyed at him during games, and pretty much stopped having any sort of opinion of him at the end of his playing career.

Was a class player. My idol, up until that moment. Anyways, best of wishes ryan. Always have a special place here. Do come back sometimes. Bring us victory after victory again, just like old times. Tearing you apart since 1992.

Thanks for his fantastic service. The time is right for him to leave now. But I hope he becomes a big success in management and one day he could return to lead us.

Just when I was planning to sing the Ryan Giggs (Will Griggs) on fire song...na na na na

Will be missed :(

Unfortunate for him to be part of two failing management setups with differing philosophies, he and the club had no choice but to part ways. Clears the deck for Jose and a new setup.

This, as long as he doesn't somehow end up at a rival club (weird as that sounds).

Amazed this is all over social media / BBC etc, without formal announcement from the club, or Ryan himself...

Our media department is super slow. Im sure they are busy arranging this with the Ibra/Micky stuff at the same time.

To be fair, he was pretty loyal to his mistress. 8 years wasn't it?

I said my good buys in 2014, him retiring as a player was so sad. Ryan giggs as assitant manager im not too bothered about. Legend of a player for the club and the sport. But he retired in 2014 for me. wish him well in his managerial career though,

Good news. Great player, but this shouldn't be a charity club. If he can prove himself abroad, then I'm fine with him coming back, but not until then.

Obviously not 'great news' or anything of the sort, but it has to be the right call for everyone involved. The only argument to keep him on, especially with the near certain arrival of Rui Faria, would be a sentimental one.

One of the absolute greats at this club, and unlike the reports on his personal life and his role in the last 3 mediocre years, that won't be forgotten in a hurry.

I'm sad to see him go, and I can't help but think he was misused by the club. I would have rather seen him become part of the academy setup, not necessarily as a manager, or work in player recruitment for the first team. Those are roles you can work in long-term and contribute to the club.

If he feels a promise to him was "broken", I guess that's fitting given his own history.

You paid him 5M and bid him a thankful farewell instead

That's the thing. The days when players used to retire on high or move to smaller clubs when they still had 1-2 years left in the tank just to keep their reputation intact are gone. These days you literally have to drag legends out of the club as they will fight, moan and bitch for as many pennies as they can.

Don't take me wrong I am not addressing that to just Giggs or the class of 92 for all that matter. Many other players did the same thing including Gerrard, Del Piero and Totti.

Once Rooney and Carrick goes, the United we all grew up with is gone. Kind of Sad..

Now it's time for Mourinho and his boys to start carving out new legacies so kids growing up can say they grew up with this bunch of players instead of pining for the past all the time.

Thanks for the memories Giggsy and enjoy retirement and Imogen Thomas ! you deserve it.

A fantastic, fantasy player when young and a smart, adaptive player when 'old'. Superb footballer.

For a hundred grand a week they'll have to callin the swat to remove me. Lol

Del pierro and totti still delivers though, at some reduced capacity but hardly a stealing a lunch. Rooney however....
