Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

Don't love this decision.

Already feel like Solskjaer's golden legacy has been somewhat tainted by being an underqualified candidate thrown into the Glazer-era United mincer.

Would prefer it if we didn't do the same to all our club legends. Dreading the day I find out Ratcliffe has given Eric some role as face of the official face of the club in some capacity.
What would you have us do for an interim then? Clearly they do not have someone immediately lined up to take over, or else they would have.

Like the army - “Just quit then”. I hope Ruud uses these weeks to do what he wants. I really think Ole was on his way to great things until he folded to Ronaldo coming back when he truly wanted a midfielder, that will be a regret of his. People who come to Old Trafford and play the game get mullered.
Great things?
We had the ultimate house bit on wet sand approach with a McFred mid, and were always going behind before just about turning it round. Not to mention a lot of it was that mad season with no fans.

So, instead of getting a proper manager after the final, we keep ten Hag, sack him for doing the same thing that made us keep him, and replace him with Ruud who most likely won't be as good as the alternatives we could've got?

Makes no sense to me.
The key word is "caretaker" manager.
Although if we suddenly go on a mad winning run again...

A lot of people/supporters as expecting Ruud will get a new manager bounce similar to Ole. Hope they are right but I'm not so sure, where will the goals suddenly come from? Rudd has been there since the summer as head coach and have missed the more big chances in the league than any other team.

Leicester midweek in the Cup, Chelsea in the League at the weekend.

Will be interesting to see if they are any notable differences in the team selection and shape.

All the best Ruud

I know, but we could've got a manager in to help properly sort things out instead of wasting all these months. Maybe a whole season if we're planning on waiting until the summer now to get a full time man in.

It's such a waste of time.

Wouldn't be surprised to see at least one academy forward in the squad for the cup game in midweek... I'd also guess we'll start the game at a far higher tempo than in the past three years

I don't feel good about this. It smacks too much of rolling the dice - again, and where did that get United in the last ten years plus? I wish Ruud well but am struggling to be optimistic. It is hard now to have faith that INEOS do have a serious long term plan to which they are committed and which they are steadily implementing. This looks like making it up as you go along at best and reacting belatedly to crisis at worst. Come on United!!!!!!!!

Ruud is a smart bloke. It might be a little early in his managerial career, but he’s got all the qualities to succeed as a manager at the top. Let’s just hope this experience doesn’t feck his whole career up

René Hake? Far more experience than van Nistelrooy.

Not bothered by RvN if it's for a caretaker manager stint like Giggs or Carrick - should be fine in that case. I just don't want him to be exposed and ultimately pilloried over the remainder of the 24/25 season (or beyond).

I would challenge "early in career" when there are plenty of managers with limited experience that go on to be great. Im not saying that will be Ruud, but if you have the qualities regardless of age and experience, you will do well.

Whoever wants Ruuuuuuuud when theres world class managers like Southgate, Mourinho and Potter available is beyond help

Hopefully it won't be for the rest of the season. If an interim manager does well it's always hard for any club not give him the job full time, or it makes hiring a new manager a disappointment for the team. I obviously love Ruud and want him to succeed, but I don't want another Ole situation.

It was inevitable he would be interim at some point this season as ETH was always going to be sacked. Hopefully over the last few weeks people have been sounded out behind the scenes and progress on a replacement is well under way.

Just long enough until he’s appointed permanently. It’s a never ending cycle.
Can we cool it with these comments? It's not even the same team that Ole or Mourinho had. It's ETH's team made up of 95% his own players. Are you telling me players that he knows and worked with before, got him sacked? Please.

Will be interesting to see if he immediately gets a tune out of the players/results improve.

Can't see him going back to assistant if the board opt for an alternative, but looks really weird to get rid of him so quickly.

Interim player-manager??

You could see this appointment as interim a mile off, even going back to when he was appointed.

It makes sense, I'm looking forward to see what he can do in whatever amount of time he will be given. I'll always be fond of Ruud, he's the only player who's name I had on my shirt as a kid! I should probably apologise to my parents for picking the longest name on the team at the time.

Wasn’t PSV players unhappy about his training methods? Something that seems to happen a lot with ours.

I don't know, I got bored and stopped. I'll probably have a look on Twitter, though, and see what people who watched and/or analysed his PSV side will say.
I think the issue at PSV was that he didn't really have one. @Eendracht maakt macht or @locomojito would know best (as PSV fans), but I think the former said earlier that Van Nistelrooij talked about dominant, attacking football, but never really instilled it on the pitch, where PSV wasn't very consistent in their approach, but overall still pretty reactionary by the end of his one season in charge.

I like Van Nistelrooij but he's not been a strong head coach so far. He may have learned a lot in the meantime though! We'll be finding out now. :)

Honestly, I have never seen EtH and RvN talk at the side line or hug each other when celebrating. Maybe RvN and EtH never cared for each other. Both are dutch, that is it. RvN may be the one celebrating the most today!

Hope this elevation is only till the International break and we'll make a proper appointment or appoint a proper interim till the end of the season to take over from after the break.

If I were him I'd tell the players to revert back to the state of Ten Hag's first season before Eriksen gets injured.

Not convinced by Ruud's coaching credentials but hopefully we'll see somewhat of a new manager bounce at least. Surely the players are as relieved as we are that Ten Hag is gone?
