Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Fan fiction or not, kind of understandable that it creates a weird situation and atmosphere for Sporting
They should all be happy that their manager got a move to a bigger club though. It shows how highly rated he is. Obviously it will hurt them for a while but they have the squad to carry on with a new manager

Weird if true. Most of those players would welcome move to our club given the opportunity. I think they are obviously not happy but understand that this might be one of time chance.

I’m assuming he’s going to be named head coach? Rather than manager since that’s what INEOS wanted but never changed it with ETH.

Some If the annoyance comes from Amorim convincing them to stay and win another title together, now he’s fecking off they feel let down/aggrieved.

Can understand that. But he couldn’t predict the future, he want to know that a massive club would come in for him during the season. Very hard to turn us down and we obviously wanted someone to start as soon as possible rather than end of the season.

Actually think its a good thing that he is starting during the international break, rather than rushing in with only a couple of training sessions before Chelsea. The media circus would be mad.

3 weeks takes the 'heat' off slightly, and lets him settle his mind at this mid-season upheaval. Gives his family time to come to terms with things also, find a new home etc.

He can asses our next 3 home games from a distance and make plenty of notes during that time, then he can come and see it all for himself on the training pitch for a week before we play Ipswich. Albeit lots of players will be away with their country, but hopefully we can 'fake' a few injuries for some of the main guys to stay in Manchester.

Nice for Ruud to steer the ship for another 3 home games also. And gives us extra time to decide what to eventually do with Ruud. Would like him to stay, maybe as the attacking coach, just not sure if he / Amorim will accept that.

United playing three games in ten days would've meant Amorim having very little time on the training ground installing his methods into the players. For me because of that it's a good idea to wait until the break, we should beat PAOK and Leicester at home anyway and Chelsea on Sunday again would've been too soon for Amorim to get the team set up how he wants.
A lot of people keep saying the international break is good timing so he has more time, but most of the players will be away on international duty so when does he have the extra time to install his methods on the training ground.

Different setup. I'd rather have no buffer between the head coach and the upper hierarchy

Yes, no doubt.

But ultimately the highly paid egos within the team will listen to a legend like Ruud, a footballer who has accomplished more than most at the club -- then say a bunch of successful guys coming in from a 'smaller club' and a manager that most of them will not have heard of.

That will be the reality.

There is a lot of the season left before any ideas of chopping any 'deadwoods' off in the summer. And the season could still go south.

A manager leaves after 9 matches in a season, that too after winning 9/9 then it is understandable that players, management and fans will be upset.

It also reflects on the character of the manager. Leaving the team just when the season begins. Boy oh boy. I mean as people say he could be very talented but I don't want anyone to do that to my club so not sure I want that to happen to other club....unless of course there is underlying issues between the manager and the club and he is hanging around for servitude and he is now free. Don't know if that is the case.

That said, I am happy for my club. Hope things improve for us from here on.

Fair play to the board! I would never in a million years expected us to have secured him mid season. I was resigned to a free transfer manager or Ruud until May.

Buzzing for this appointment, there are a couple minor worries, but ultimately no one can guarantee success at this club.

Looking forward to the new era with SJR et al’s man in the job!

Yeah this is what I don't understand either but everyone keeps saying it. Some of the internationals (eg: south Americans) often only arrive back a day or 2 before the next game

Might actually watch a champions league game on Tuesday now
International break is a good time. We’ve a few lads due back just after the break who he can do some work with. Finds his feet for a couple of weeks and I’m pretty sure there will be conversations with Ruud etc… in the interim about philosophy etc…

Ooh. Good point. A competition I could not be arsed with at all has just got more interesting.

No really. It's a huge opportunity that he cannot afford to turn down. I don't think INEOS would have been satisfied throwing the season by having to use an interim all the way until the summer - if Amorim had held firm he would not join until after the summer I'm sure they would have gotten someone else.

Interesting choice by United and Sporting. The games prior to the International break are going to be intenesly scrutinised.

Neither here or there, i suppose. I’d guess that if it was up to us, he’d be on his way on a jet.

Either way you can spin it in quite a few directions. He’ll be under a lot of pressure from day one at United, so maybe not the worst outcome that he’ll have a bit more time to start analyzing the player performances rather than suddenly finding himself pitch side against a Chelsea side that can easily score quite a few goals against us.

He’s a handsome sod, a full head of hair and an even better beard. Would expect the players to react well to that and start playing to their full potential.
Much the same as Ruud and it worked last night. He's obviously interim so the players quickly get weaned off the coconut shy look that was on the touchline before in time for Rubin joining. Hirsute is the new bald.

Ohh! Very clever! I see what you did there!

Ruben. Rubin. RubIN.

A teams performance after a quarter of a season is a firm indication of where they finish. I expect Amorim to be better but I don’t expect him to work miracles or expect two of Villa, City, Liverpool and Arsenal to have a meltdown from here, not to mention Brighton, Chelsea and Spurs, who are up there too.
Amorim doesn't need to perform miracles to get us competing alongside Villa, Chelsea, Spurs or Brighton. We have the squad to easily compete with them. They are not that far ahead of us and couple of those are just as inconsistent as us.

Haven't been able to find much about what I believe is the most important thing: his man management and player development. Given his record, one assumes he's good at this, but I honestly believe that's the single thing we need more than tactics or systems or what not.

One of the commentators last night joked that United probably need a psychiatrist as well as a manager, and I don't think that's all that wrong.

From a David Hytner piece in today’s Guardian:

Amorim has built his reputation on the back of his man‑management, an ability to connect with the players, to be extremely close to them and yet never too close. He knows where to draw the lines; when to be a friend, when to be the demanding boss. If he has to put any member of the dressing room in his place, he will do so easily and without hesitation.

Amorim’s authority comes from the strength of his personality, his charisma; the simplicity of his messages, too.

This season is fecked anyway so it makes no real difference whether he joins now or in 2 weeks.

There's no need to negotiate this hard.
No it's not. Some of you lot... We are in October FFS.

We are still in literally every competition. Top 4 is still achievable too. I agree that he can join in 2 weeks and Ruud can stay at helm until then but the season isn't fecked at all.

Some people man. Makes me laugh that people are writing the season of in October when we can still easily catch top 4 and win a trophy considering we’re in every competition. Such a negative fan base at times

Especially since there's also a good chance that 5th will give CL next season.

Why is it petty? You can't just get whoever you want whenever you want. This way Sporting give themselves a window to find their next manager and replace the coaching staff, Amorim gets to say goodbye and help out the club while they work to appoint a successor. He joins you in an international break which gives him a few days for him and his staff to get their feet under the table. You get the guy you want, Sporting are compensated for losing the majority of their coaching set up mid season. Makes perfect sense for all sides, there's nothing petty about doing the best for your club and making the upheaval as smooth as possible.
You took his post way too literally. I'm pretty sure he was just joking.

Hard to not be excited about the appointment. Playing style aside I don't really think we've had a manager post SAF that the players actually fully respected and wanted to play for. I really hope RA is the man to get the fight back in to this team as it's been completely void of any for so long.

Came across this from two years ago when looking for a vid about him that wasn't hastily uploaded in the last week. The bit about him being charismatic and his players actively watching his press conferences excited me for some reason. It's been hard having ten Hag's copy paste dull interviews for the last 2 years.
