Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

I can't really understand why they expect both compensation and a notice period.

Otherwise, he just tells them he's leaving and gives 30 days notice and no compensation.

It always appears that everything related to football contravenes all established employment laws and regulations.
Maybe it's not something official? I can understand it a little as it's not just a business but a football club that Amorim has ties to. I can't imagine him wanting to be a jerk and just walk out in the middle of the week, leave the club in the lurch, and tarnish his legacy with them. Likewise, I don't think we'd want to harm our relationship with them.

They paid a fee when they hired him so it makes sense that they'd hold Amorim to his release clause, likewise they don't just want to have absolutely nobody in charge suddenly. The international break is probably best for all parties as it gives them time to find a replacement and gives Amorim time to find out how crap Antony is.

I'm not getting the comparison some are making with ten hag, pundits in media argue the he is an up and coming manager and that ten hag was the same but that is just not true, one is 39 amd thr other was 50, I don't think a manger can be classed as up and coming at 50 years of age.

Also the say amorim has come from a lesser league like ten hag but would argue the Portuguese league is definitely superior to the Dutch league, you only have to look at the successes that have come direct for the Portuguese league to the premier league compared to coming from the Dutch league.

And lastly ten hag was managing the biggest side in Holland, where as amorim has dominated the league over 2, maybe 3 bigger sides in the Portuguese league.

However it unfolds it's better for us to reach an agreement and not try and piss them off. He's under contract so we should be patient. International break coming up will help.

Anyone else feel a bit old following this (presumable) appointment?

Amorim will be the first Manchester United manager of my lifetime to be younger than me...

Although Michael Carrick is only two months older than me if we're including caretakers!

Was bound to happen one day I guess!

Yeah...depressing, isn't it?

I will gladly admit that one of the reasons why I loved Scholes and Giggs as players towards the end of their careers was that they were older than me!

I’m excited for this but does anyone have that nagging feeling after the last decade that we are just a graveyard for managers and players careers?

Don't know how anyone can take any Kaveh "report" seriously.

Guy was on TV couple days ago talking about "Ruben Amorim is thinking 'if I'm going to the Premier League, let's wait for the really really big job, which is replacing Pep Guardiola" then his co-presenter or whatever jumped in with "how times have changes when people are hanging around for the City job and not the United one"

Now he's here "reporting" all these intricacies like the above didn't happen and people are just supposed to believe he has a clue

We have been, but there’s no logical reason that it will be that way forever. More healthy to view this as a new era, and hope things can improve and change.

If anyone could succeed here then everyone would have. The size of Manchester United swallows most people. Not enough has been done to make sure the people who join us have the ability but also the mental characteristics to be successful here.

Imagine being under little to no scrutiny your entire career and then joining United?

If he was going to city or Liverpool every journalist would be waxing lyrical and telling us why he's going to win everything for the next 20 years, because it's us, they're fairly negative about it all.

It’s bound to end at some point. And this is the first time a manager will have the full support of competent football people behind him when taking the job. I’m confident fortunes will change.

Nice one Jose! :+1:

I’ll always wonder what could’ve been had Mourinho taken over directly from Sir Alex. Seemed such a perfect and logical appointment that just never materialised, instead we got the disastrous Moyes era which has set the tone ever since and we’ve never really recovered from it.

He’d have won the league, no doubt. That group of players, his determination and attitude. We’d have just kept on winning.

I wish we had Ashworth and a proper CEO in place and I feel he could have succeeded.

If I remember correctly, Woodward/Glazers wanted Jose or Klopp but SAF and Bobby Charlton thought he didn’t have the class to be a United manager after he tried to gouge Tito’s eyes out on the touchline that time.

Honestly after Fergie picked Moyes I couldn’t give a shit who he wanted as manager anymore after that.

Part of me always wondered what it would have been like if the upper management actually backed the manager over the players, ie Pogba, Martial etc who eventually led to Mou's self sabotage. He was ultimately to blame, but he had many reasons to be pissed off.

I think he would have won us a title with a proper structure in place.

Let’s be real. Everyone rated Ten Hag at the time. The excitement was analogous to this.

Sounds amazing, but also amazingly close to what was said about Erik. Really struggling for get excited here.
I'm amazed that people cant get excited for a new start after the dreadful football we've been forced to endure for the last 1-1,5 year.
I'm more thrilled about the future today than I have been in ages.

Yep! Looking forward to some sexy football

Sounds good. Can't wait too see us play football that's enjoyable to watch again. Will be looking forward to our matches at last.

I'm excited about this. I have a feeling we are going to go back to a team that everybody fears, a team that is the favourite to win in most matches, a team theat other teams dread in to be drawn with in cup competitions
The old Manchester United!

True. Its just that I'm finally excited about watching United play again!

Up to now sure, but now I'm excited about watching United play again, I can't wait!

Noticing you're feeling more than a tad optimistic with all this, and you're really letting it show here.

Have you followed Sporting in the past and have reasonable insight into what to realistically expect or are you just jaded by the previous manager and excited for someone new with a good and growing reputation?

God bless you Jose. Was sad it didn't work out for you.

It’s weird because despite him being miserable as feck while he was here, and infamously living in a hotel during his time in charge, he really does seem to love the club.
