Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

There's nothing to worry. He will become your manager. It's just posturing and politics now. They will end up settling and I believe he will be in Manchester by the weekend.

Agree. The 30 days notice is strange in football management. That is more like a standard office job contract.

pay the 10m release clause and pay the 4m to release the assistants if they are the ones that Amorim wants to bring with him to United

keep in the tack the relationship we have had with sporting over the years bc it's been good for United as a whole

The speed at which this is moving means INEOS did the due diligence over the summer and have had this (and likely other appointments) in their back pocket for awhile now. Still should have sacked ETH after last season, but here we are. We wanted someone like Tuchel to pull the trigger int he summer, but when he turned us down, they decided to ETH another chance before going all in on another young, unproven at top level manager. It's just posturing and face saving exercise for the extra release fee's and likely is just clickbait as it's already all been agreed but not yet finalized.

If this guy is the real deal, he should have an immediate impact in raising the floor of the squad. The squad is not bad and certainty can compete for top 4. Being able to have tactics beyond chaos ball is already an improvement. Hopefully he's not stubborn like ETH and can actually coach a tune out of this group, make tactical adjustments, and knows how to use his subs. I expect us to bounce back and compete in Europa, not sure I have any expectations for the league it might be too far gone.

Can someone explain why United changed their manager priority?

From The Athletic...

It seemed like the number 1 chose in the summer was Tuchel and Amorim was not considered as "after conversations both parties decided the time wasn’t right then".

Yet fast forward to October and Tuchel was not considered and Amorim became the priority?

What changed? Was this just down to Amorims hot start for Sporting?

At this point, I don't understand why it isn't clear that any news coming from the club is journalistic guesswork.

To be honest, I know we want him to start work as quickly as possible, but he might be best being in the stands for the Chelsea game anyway.

It's a difficult first game and he won't have any proper time with the players the way things are looking.
I get the idea behind this, but I would rather that he gets go work with the players and the league as soon as possible.
If we lose then too bad, and hopefully he'll learn a thing or two from it - chances are that we will lose with Ruud at the wheel as well.

Its so annoying having to pay all the money (£17m to Ten Hag being the most annoying), as this is all eating into the January and Summer budgets.
Almost a £30m hit which will affect Amorim in the future by not being able to get all the players he wants.
Can we sack another 250 people?

When we come for your guy
In our bid to fly high that’s Amorim
When your 14th it’s no fun
Then our guy brings us 21 it’s Amorim
Wins will ring, win win and win
Win win and win and you’ll sing “Vida linda”

Probably was a factor. Im wondering if they identified ETH's lack of charisma and communications skills as a factor in our lack of successes and decided to go with someone that is the antithesis of that. Tuchel never struck me as someone who players loved playing for. Bit of a moody so and so.

Perhaps a tactical element too with the singing of Yoro and De Ligt? We are stronger at CB now than fullback, perhaps allowing us to play Amorims 343.
3-4-3 is a formation that entirely relies on your wingbacks, which we have zero of. Concerning.

It’s INEPTOS own fault for kicking the can down the road.

I'd pay Sporting the 4million. Its not about whether we can call their bluff or whether his assistants are worth that.

For one I feel bad for completely de-railing their season, especially as it looks like they're finally ascending after decades in the wilderness. And secondly we enjoy a good relationship with them, best keep that sweet.

Hopefully we'll make that back by simply binning one of many overpaid chancers we have languishing in the dressing room.

That's because it has nothing to do with Football management. Every contract is based on standard employment laws and that notice is one of these standard laws, also these laws are only strictly applied in the context of unilateral decisions.

That would be around Nov 14th.

Sporting obviously want him for the City CL game on the 5th and the league away game to Braga on the 10th.

It is unusually to keep a manager at your club for a couple more games.
I find it hard to believe any club would want a manager in situ for such games after his head has been turned.

Understandable him taking charge last night for a relatively unimportant competition against a side they beat 6-1 earlier in the season, but when the competition hots up it would be quite baffling.

Unless he himself has said right lads, I’m giving you another month or until the next break…which seems a conflict of interest on United’s part.

League is nowhere near over yet. We’re only 7 pts behind top 4. Hopefully we have a long manager bounce and then next season should be where he really comes into it with his tactics etc

I hope and feel he will use our youth. If he does play 3 ATB it gives us flexibility because most of our prospects aren't CBs. They'll be forwards, midfielders and wingbacks which gives them greater cover. If it's Amass for example he will have LCB covering.

This is the sensible approach. I believe that Amorim will eventually want one of two players. Better to settle in good terms and keep a good relationship for the future. Bear in mind that although our board is highly professional and will defend our interests till the end, this is a bit of posturing for the supporters. They are also probably trying to gain some time for whatever backstage moves they are making for the club next phase. I don't believe Amorim will even stay for our next game against Estrela.

Fair enough. I just don't recall any talk of a 30 day period being discussed in the context of a football manager.

I mean City away in the CL is a big game for Sporting.
And maybe it better for us not to rush him in for the Chelsea game given their form.

Could just be part of the negotiations.

Consider the circumstances. SJR and staff were relatively new at the time. Tuchel and DeZerbi didn't work out and there was probably a logic of "we're new, ETH just one a major cup, lets see what he can do next year then reassess".

He won't even lead us in our next game against Estrela. There are reports of some friction between Amorim and the players along with the strained relationship with the board. Some stayed under Amorim promise for one last dance. I don't think it's sensible to keep him around.

And thirdly, it doesn't come out of your own pocket anyway :p

If if if Tuchel did indeed reject us in the summer then I’m glad cause it all worked out in the end.

Laurie today:
The combined cost of Ten Hag’s departure and Amorim’s potential arrival does push United close to the line on financial regulations, according to those with knowledge of the situation, but Ratcliffe has privately indicated a desire to test the limits and figure out a solution later.

If only everyone was this sensible.

He really doesn't seem like the loyal type, does he? Between this sudden early season exit if it goes through, and fecking off from Braga to you guys after 13 games, I get the impression that he'd be through the door quicker than we could say bye to him if he did well here and Madrid/Barca came knocking.

Would be a nice problem to have, of course.

True, but being "relatively new" didnt stop them from sniffing around other managers in May and June. They were obviously ready to fire ETH but the FA Cup saved him. I dont think you even begin to to talk to other managers unless your mind is made up.

In hindsight, ETH should have done post the FA Cup final, but glad he didn't as i think in Amorim we now have the manager we need.

That does suck for those players. Hopefully you still win the league.

There is a manager from Holland available that you could bring in? Only problem is, he will need to sign Frenkie de Jong or else his system can't work.

Does he speak English? Is he an overly tactical guy a la Jose („1:0 is the perfect score“) or more of a high scoring approach? What’s his preferred used system at Sporting? Is he active on the touchline or more of a seater taking notes?

I think he's rational and pragmatic. We were just a stepping stone. He came from our rival. He doesn't love the club but he has been professional and quite successful. For me it's the natural step. I just expected it at the end of this season.

It boils down to professionalism and relationship with bosses/team.

I've given one, three and up to six months notice at various jobs, always with a view to not derailing my team's/organisation's efforts.

Six is a bloody long slog (wound up cutting it to four because it all looked settled and in place), but three goes away in no time.

If this guy were someone who can switch off overnight from years of managing, competing and winning stuff with Sporting I'm not sure I'd want him here.

Is he bald? I think he would fit better at Ajax. There he has all the Ajax players he needs.
