Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Played 9, won 9. Scored 30 and conceded 2. Jesus Christ :o

Where are the regular watchers of the Portuguese league? Is this guy the real deal?
Hard to tell in that league. Although he’s competing with Porto and Benfica. But all the rest of the league are worse than what’s in the Pl. I reckon he’ll get the best out of Bruno.

EtH looked like a great appointment too don't forget. Amorim like Ten Hag had success in lesser leagues.

Me? I would at least have sounded out managers who have been a hit in the Prem. Emery might be persuaded. Thomas Frank, I think, deserves a chance. We need to get back to appointing best in class. Whether this is that, well im not sure.

But we will support if finalised.
PL experience means bugger all with managers, I’ve no idea why anyone would care. Which PL winning manages started at a lesser club in the PL and then moved to another and won the league? Barely any.

Well Nagelsmann should be available by the time these players get Rim sacked! Excited about the hiring, hopefully we can get back to where we should be.
The fact we're not signing Nagelsmann is the 2nd best news of the day after EtH's sacking.

He's one of the most overrated managers on the planet.

The day to day duties of a manager still need to be taken care of. Taking training sessions, media obligations, winking at tea lady every morning, etc.
Right but I'm assuming here the deal is for Amorim to start now, not next season?

If they had him in mind as their long term manager for a while, it makes Ugarte and the Fernandes new deal make more sense

On paper Bruno doesn't mesh with his style.

Also I'd rather we stop worrying about getting the best out of a 30 year old that's on the decline. Prefer him working to get the best out of Mainoo, Yoro, Hojlund, Garnacho, Amad, Ugarte, and the other academy players.

Really thought he'd never be nuts enough to leave a situation where he's top of the league by miles and doing well in the CL to come to our shitshow mid-season.

Fair play to INEOS if we can get him, would be a hell of a coup.

It's a once in a lifetime type opportunity. Getting a job at one of the world's biggest clubs, no matter how they're currently doing, it doesn't get turned down.

Fans doubt our ability to get a manager upon every new appointment. Then we go and do it. Quickly.

Sporting have conceded just two goals this season in the league (30F 2A) - and the last one was conceded on 17 August.

That's 684 minutes without conceding a league goal.

Yeah even so, you still need someone filling in managerial responsibilities in the interim, even if they don't get to lead the team out to a game.

I suspect RVN will be given the Leicester game though, even if Amorim joining is imminent.

Thanks, this has made it so much clearer....
Box dominator sounds like something I'd be looking to order from Arby's at HT when we're 2-0 to Bournemouth

The fact that this is what you thought of when you read "box dominator" tells me that your parents raised you well.

Amorin is exciting, ticks alot of the right boxes. But I do worry about the fact he has never played or managed anyway but in Portugal.

Hopefully if he comes now he has this season to adjust to the EPL and one of the biggest most pressurised managerial jobs in the world.

But it's definitely a risk, he might just simply not be able to adapt who knows.

I've not been this excited since the Brentford win.
:lol::lol:
Did wonders in Portugal and suddenly he's the best manager since sliced bread. Hard to think it won't eventually go the same way as with any other manager. There are two or three characters in the dressing room that contribute to a manger failing too, and they still remain.
Rashford the main one

If we’re playing this speculated 3-4-3 under him then some of our summer transfers make more sense and that maybe he was our front runner all along. Two additional CBs in Yoro and De Ligt with Maguire and Lindelof both being retained for that 3 at the back combination. Mazraoui can function in that midfield four as a creative wide man and of course the big one in Ugarte who played under him at Sporting.

United has been my second team for more than two decades. I can't believe that I'll have to become a hater. We will go back to being shite if you take him *crying emoji
Just swap the positions of your top 2 teams around and join us on our ascent back to the top

What the feck is a referent no.9?

He's played a 3back and controlling/possession style with Sporting.

Think anything he brings in will work better than what we are doing currently. Main thing with any formation is supporting the midfield and getting our attackers into more dangerous positions more often.
I see, I think, but mostly hope, that such a formation will suit the current squad better, at least while nobody's fit or consistent (yet).

The more I dig into Amorim, the more I like what I'm reading. Mourinho's a fan too:

I like him [Amorim] as a person, I like him as a coach. I think he’s capable of coaching in any league and he’s capable of coaching at any club. But he’s in a good league and he’s at a great club. It’s his decision and it will be, or not, up to the clubs that want him or don’t want him or want to convince him, with more or less arguments. What’s clear from me is that I like the person and I like the coach."

The quote is from when Amorim was linked with Liverpool

Beating Porto and Benfica with Sporting.

Kind of like beating Celtic and Rangers with Aberdeen. ;)

From lows this morning to highs this evening, fecking football. Hope we get this one and I really hope that he deliveres - gods knows we need it.

so reading up on his tactics and ideas, are we looking at something like this?

-----------------------Onana

-----------Yoro----De Ligt-----Martinez

Mazraoui---------------------------------------Dalot
----------------Ugarte---------Mainoo

------Fernandes--------------------Garnacho

----------------------Hojlund

Thoughts?

Honestly most of the transfers make sense in a vacuume anyways. Yoro, De Ligt, Maz, Zirkzee are all players that can function in different styles of teams and we desperately needed cover at those positions regardless of team shape. Ugarte was the only one that seemed a bit off, so yeah if Amorim was always the plan then I agree.

Can pretty easily plug this in with our personnel..

-----------De Ligt--------------
------Yoro--------Martinez------
-------Ugarte----Mainoo-------
Dalot‐---‐-----‐-----------------------Shaw
--------Bruno---------Rashford
-----------‐---Hojlund--------------------

This one also comes with the added bonus of boiling the Berties piss!! :smirk:
Signing a Portuguese guy with a smooth haircut and cheeky smile before he signs for City. What can go wrong?

His record with Sporting makes me really excited. Hell, even his short stint at Braga is positive. I imagine that Bruno will do what he can to keep the dressing room on board (I know Bruno had already left before Amorim joined Sporting but Ooooh Portuguese Friend and all that).
