Played 9, won 9. Scored 30 and conceded 2. Jesus Christ :o

Where are the regular watchers of the Portuguese league? Is this guy the real deal?

I was excited when we signed Ten hag. Now I’m just reserved and praying this man can take us back to the top.
I’m the exact same. As I said earlier on here:

On paper & stats wise it looks a terrific appointment if it happens but ETH looked a terrific appointment on paper & stats wise too with what he achieved in Netherlands.

Time will tell I suppose but if it is indeed Ruben Amorim, then he has my full support.

My post after the Spurs game. Excited about this link.

Amorim is easily my top choice.

My justifications:
  1. He plays high press, vertical transitional football, with lots of ball carrier football which suits our squad way better than whatever the feck ETH is trying to do. He does love his 3 ATB with 2 wing backs so we might need to make some changes, but Martinez, De Ligt, Yoro/Maguire could be great with Mazraoui and Shaw (I know...) or Dalot on either side.
  2. From Sporting fans on him: "He changed the mentality. We were defeatist, unmotivated, and our fans jeered the team almost every game. Today the stadium is vibrant, the fans happy, the players confident. We look like one of the Big Three once again". Does this ring any bells?
  3. Bruno Fernandes and Manual Ugarte played under him before and were great for him.
  4. He was shortlisted by Liverpool, whom although we all hate but can admit that is a far better run club than us, and even had a talk with West Ham, so his willingness to join us is not out of the question.
  5. He took over Braga halfway through a season, won a League Cup 3 weeks later, and then broke Braga's record of having not won in Benfica in 65 years weeks later, winning 10 of his 13 games in charge with +14 GD before leaving for Sporting.
  6. He took over Sporting (in March) when they were very far behind Porto and Benfica in the league for many years, and managed to instill a clear identity into the them within 2 months.
  7. He ended Sporting's drought by winning league title after 19 years without one, and did it so in fashion by almost going the whole season unbeaten, only losing their penultimate game to Benfica after securing the title.
  8. He won 2 league titles in 4 years, including last season, along with 2 league cups, and is so far crushing the league this season.
  9. He replaced Bruno with Goncalves who managed 71 goals and 43 assists in 156 games under him.
  10. He turned Gyokeres into an absolute monster of a striker with 45 goals and 13 assists in 50 games.
  11. Joao Palhinha was about to be sold by Sporting before Amorim came in and made him his starting DM.
  12. He turned Pedro Porro, unimpressive during his loans from City until then, who was loaned for 2 years with a obligatory £7m signing clause, turned him into a good RB and then sold him to Spurs for £40m
  13. He promoted Matheus Nunes (signed for €500k) into the first team squad and made him his starting midfielder. He was eventually signed for £38m by Wolves and then £53m by Man City.
  14. He promoted Nuno Mendes into the first team squad, became the youngest starting XI for Sporting since Ronaldo, and was eventually sold in a loan + obligatory signing fee totaling €47m to PSG.
  15. He promoted Goncalo Ignacio into the first team squad, and became one of the top CB prospects in the world.

Really thought he'd never be nuts enough to leave a situation where he's top of the league by miles and doing well in the CL to come to our shitshow mid-season.

Fair play to INEOS if we can get him, would be a hell of a coup.
Coaches who think like that will never take risks and end up there for the rest of their life.

@Sly Responding here as other thread closed. Ornstein is as reliable as reliable gets. Let's see what happens. I could definitely see Ruud till end of season, Amorim after.

I have been banging on to anyone that would listen about Amorim for over a year. Check my post history.

This article is behind a paywall for non Athletic subscribers, so will copy and paste some of the stuff that should get you all excited....
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5880077/2024/10/28/manchester-united-manager-next-ruben-amorim/

Speak to those who know Amorim about how he has managed to turn Portuguese football on its head and they all point to one thing: his personality. He has always been charismatic, a natural leader, and someone who team-mates and colleagues wanted to follow.

The first challenge for any new manager in any job is to convince his players that his ideas are right. This is how the manager generates “buy-in” and how, over time, their own ideas become those of the players too. This skill is maybe the most important in management.

Amorim has it in bucketloads.

Also important to him is the ability to give clear and simple instructions that make sense to his players. Some coaches might overcomplicate the game but Amorim would rather give simple instructions that are fully understood than complex instructions that are half-grasped.

“Ruben is a coach that brings everyone together,” says Meneses. “From the players, administration, staff, everyone ‘buys into’ your idea. This is key to creating a winning mindset. He has a very strong personality but, at the same time, it does not fracture the group. With his strong leadership, he manages to unite and aggregate. He is very smart in human relationships and communication. These are Ruben’s strengths as a coach.”

Another source who knows Amorim well says the same: “His superpower is not the 3-4-3, it is communication. With the media, the fans and the players.”

Even now, his players at Sporting watch his press conferences intently to see what he has to say.

After drab Ten Hag, who i always thought struggled to communicate with the players, this is exactly the man we need. Im over the moon!

God bless you Sir for sharing this.

9 league wins from 9 this season.

30 goals scored with only 2 conceded.

That's insanely good.

I like that he's achieved something a bit special in handing Sporting their first league title in 19 years. I was hoping we'd find a manager like that.

That would be the dream scenario for both clubs. I would accept that in a heartbeat

Nobody really knows, until he manages at this level.
We should atleast have something from his time at Sporting? United is a different beast agreed but the things I mentioned should be displayed at every club if he is as highly rated as he is. I mean, he spoke to Liverpool in the summer and has been linked to City, so there's something about him that makes him an option for these clubs.

Well Nagelsmann should be available by the time these players get Rim sacked! Excited about the hiring, hopefully we can get back to where we should be.

EtH looked like a great appointment too don't forget. Amorim like Ten Hag had success in lesser leagues.

Me? I would at least have sounded out managers who have been a hit in the Prem. Emery might be persuaded. Thomas Frank, I think, deserves a chance. We need to get back to appointing best in class. Whether this is that, well im not sure.

But we will support if finalised.

Did they clarify what that means for RvN for interim? They just announced him. He may only get the Leicester game.

Don't see that personally. By giving Ruud the whole season we're essentially chalking off is this campaign as a write off, which is criminal 9 games in. We're still in contention for every cup competition we're in too.

Sporting fans: What's he like when a shit decision goes against his team? I'm hoping he's not timid....

Anyone who hasn't seen his Sporting side at their best, I'd urge you to go and watch their games vs Arsenal a couple of seasons ago. Marcus Edwards in particular was fantastic in both games.

Agreed on Fred. A needless transfer that was a harbinger of future stupidity from ETH.
Was so strange even at the time because McTominay seemed like the obvious odd fit in any midfield setup, who also would have fetched more that summer. Fred was a handy utility player anyways

For the record, Bruno never played under Amorim. People need to stop repeating this

His missus is an engineer so hopefully she can engineer a move to United... Terrible pun.

Anyway, doesn't he have a €30 million release clause? Hopefully someone with more knowledge of Portuguese football can explain this.

The day to day duties of a manager still need to be taken care of. Taking training sessions, media obligations, winking at tea lady every morning, etc.

Knew there was a reason we wanted 4 centre backs in the summer. This has been coming for a while.

Pretty excited to be honest. To get such a promising coach mid season shouldn’t be sniffed at, and I admire how Ineos just go and get their man if that’s who they want. Woodward would’ve been checking whose contracts are expiring in June 2025.
