Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Stylistically he'd have been a bit of a departure from Pep. I think Slot is the one City have missed out on there.
Let’s see if slot wins anything first. It was quite easy to take over from Klopp. You just needed to add a bit more discipline and your sorted.

I am much more excited by this potential appointment than I ever was about Ten Hag. I never felt he had the personality to manage United. And winning things in Holland doesn't really translate to being success in the Prem. We have seen even players flounder in stepping up to adapt to the Prem.

Amorim has the personality that Ten Hag never had. His success with Sporting is impressive but more than Ten Hag he looks and sounds the part in terms of oh so important presentation.

Plus he is a manager in demand unlike many of the players we recruit for ridiculousness manager.

Also there is always a good feeling about recruiting from Sporting after Ronaldo and Bruno.

I was never having Xavi. He is Barca through and through. We need a man who has the chance of becoming a United man and potentially alegend. Make no mistake, if he turns our fortunes around he has the chance to be that. Xavi no matter what he did would always be a Barca man.

Ironically it was Ten Hag who beat Anorim 1-5 and 4-2 in 21/22 CL group stages
He really destroyed us there. We still manage to qualify for the knockout stages though. He was yong and was still lernin.

Was Amorim an option in the summer?

I know he spoke with West Ham and turned them down or they turned him down, one or the other. There was interest and he was open to a move though.
He’ll be delighted he turned down West Ham. Got a bigger move now

No. The talk was that he would stay till the summer of 2025.
Hmm. What’s the consensus around the city with him leaving? Is he going to be disliked? Or is there an understanding he had to leave at some point?

As were several of the players Amorim has used in those positions for Sporting. But yeah, Rashford is unlikely. But maybe Garnacho, who knows. His work rate has increased a lot

Would seem a waste of Garnacho's talents. He is better suited for one of the attacking midfielder role/wide forward roles.

Looks like he'll be in charge for Chelsea. I don't think I'll ever be that confident of a manager appointment again but I like Amorim. I've wanted us to try a 3 atb system for a year now. I like the system more for keeping the team compact. The only problem is that we don't really have natural wing backs who can cross. Interested to see who he goes with up front. Wouldn't be shocked to see him try Rashford there.

Good chance INEOS were preparing for this since summer given we went for both Yoro and De Ligt aswell as Ugarte. I love the idea of Gyokeres potentially joining in January or the summer too. Glad I can finally feel some excitement to watch Utd again whether it works out or not. Been watching our games only out of a sense of obligation, not enjoyment. Chelsea's an exciting game to start.

Often times wide players today don't need to be brilliant at crossing. WIth low passes and cutbacks it requires a much lower level of technical ability.

I'm just waiting for Ballague's tweet saying Pep didn't approve of Amorim replacing him.

Not sure what more you'd want from Slot, he's clearly just following the Klopp model and for Chelsea, I did say "Finally". They aren't going to win the title but they are scoring goals for fun which would be lovely at United, as we've clearly forgotten what those white things at each end of the pitch are for...

And I'm afraid, ETH's first season seems like a life-time ago, sadly...

But it's so early in the season to be making any definitive statement about slot or maresca. My point about ten hag first season is that even if slot and maresca got that, 3rd and a trophy, we might be tempted to say they've found a good manager, but we've just seen with ten hag that even 1 year is probably too early. If maresca comes 6th and wins nothing this is all premature false equivalence

Never in history has a man committed his career and seemingly his life to pure sycophancy for another man. Its genuinely a bit creepy

Yes I agree although why tf did they extend ETH's contract in that case is a bit of a mystery. Surely they didn't give RvN a 3 year contract??

Speed of movement would have been parting ways with ETH shortly after the FA cup final but better late than never I guess.
I've been thinking about this as I wanted him gone due to the dire football last season. As fans who used to watch Utd dominating, it's easy for us to come out and say 8th is not acceptable.

However, if I consider that for new owners coming in, Ten Hag had a decent first season, has won a couple of trophies, there were a lot of injuries in the squad last season, as well as some of the off field stuff with players he had to deal with...I can understand INEOS saying 'he might have something about him, let's give him a chance to prove to us he can do the job'...he's failed miserably given a decent amount of games to show he could change things.. they've sacked him and look to have a replacement coming in when many thought he'd last the season or until Christmas. I don't think I can complain about that really.

A bit off topic, but assuming the City interest was very much real, who do they now look to bring in once Pep leaves? Alonso? (assuming he isn't Madrid bound). Hoeness?

He will be disliked by some because we were in the beginning of an incredible season but others like me will understand. I prefer to focus on the good he did for us. Of course having United as my second club softens the blow.

I wouldn't say I am excited, more cautiously optimistic. Too many times we have seen managers come here with a style of play and never been able to implement it.

We need to see the style implemented, the board will probably back him, his style of play is the reason he is hired.

Having done my usual youtube research in the past 24 hours, he seems like a decent manager who can handle the pressure.

He took Braga into a cup final, then went to Sporting who haven't won the league in 12 years? Won the league.

I want that in the manager, someone who backs himself to take this job on, many people think its a poisoned chalice but imo it is for the weak managers. If you have faith and belief in yourself, this is the job to take.

I was not having Xavi either, he won the league but he didnt play that well and his European record was terrible, also fell out with players in his last season.

We will know within 5 games if he is good or not, most managers who do well, have an impact straight away.

In hindsight, we should have seen Ten Hag being this poor after Brentford, City, Liverpool losses in his first season.

To move this quick, they must have been in communication with either his agent etc before they sacked ETH.
To get this one done before the weekend will be swift. I'm wondering now though about RVN is he going as well?
