I'm surprised at how promptly the management has reacted in the last couple of days. This has obviously been planned for some time, but it's still nice to see us moving along quickly.

He is walking into the best set of fixtures he could have asked for. One tough away game and 6 home games. He can build confidence quickly if he manages to win the home games.

Looks like he'll be in charge for Chelsea. I don't think I'll ever be that confident of a manager appointment again but I like Amorim. I've wanted us to try a 3 atb system for a year now. I like the system more for keeping the team compact. The only problem is that we don't really have natural wing backs who can cross. Interested to see who he goes with up front. Wouldn't be shocked to see him try Rashford there.

Good chance INEOS were preparing for this since summer given we went for both Yoro and De Ligt aswell as Ugarte. I love the idea of Gyokeres potentially joining in January or the summer too. Glad I can finally feel some excitement to watch Utd again whether it works out or not. Been watching our games only out of a sense of obligation, not enjoyment. Chelsea's an exciting game to start.

Surprised this is happening so quick considering they play tonight and we play tomorrow.

Do feel a big bad they clearly tapped him up behind Ten Hags back, but it was the right move
That’s called very good planning my friend. It shows we ain’t scrambling around looking for a manager. We have sounded one out

The official HERE WE GO!
To be honest, I don't quite understand this take. Erik's first season with us is relatively the most successful during his time here. After a patchy start we can start to see the team taking shape slowly. He was fully supported in getting rid of Ronaldo. We took the game to Barcelona and played well at Camp Nou. He was also helped by Rashford having a purple patch who seemingly is able to score from any half chances he gets.

If anything, I feel that everything suddenly just unraveled after the 7-0 loss to Liverpool. It was as if a collective lack of trust in EtH tactics formed after that match and his team was never quite the same again.
Hard and probably inaccurate to boil it down to one thing albeit that may have had a sway, but I think his treatment of Ronaldo, Sancho, DDG didn't sit well with some players in the squad. I suspect he found it difficult to gain their full respect and wasnt able to communicate effectively want he wanted from them.

Ruud is the sacrificial lamb for the Chelsea game so yeah he's been dealt a great hand there.

Full credit to INEOS for acting very swiftly to bring a new permanent head coach in.

4 months to late mind.

Exciting times having a young up and coming coach with an excellent record taking over. No guarantees of success but let's hope this is finally the one to take us back to the top.

I’ve seen a few videos on “Amorim-ball” and “How United will set-up under Amorim”, “Amorim tactics explained” etc and I just feel a bit numb to it this time. Everything that is being said now could also have been said about Ten Hag at Ajax before he joined: exciting play, clear philosophy, adaptable etc. The people making these videos had the same level of optimism about Erik. If anything the belief that Ten Hag would fix our problems was greater.

The things that are different with Amorim that are more worthy of consideration:

  • Erik was probably too damaged to fully benefit from the new structure and direction at the club. If Ten Hag was coming to us from Ajax now we would all be very excited about the potential. Unfortunately for him he came at a bad time and fell into the same old pitfalls of the old regime. Poor recruitment strategy, knee-jerk signings, off-field problems inherited like Ronaldo, Sancho, leading to a patchwork squad, bad results, unclear tactical direction, odd team selections, desperation. His star had already fallen quite far prior to the summer and the uncertainty of a new hierarchy above him has undermined him to the point of his position being untenable. Amorim shouldn’t have these problems and as the first managerial appointment of Ineos should have a solid backing
  • Personality. It was probably the biggest concern about Ten Hag when he arrived. Whether he had the charisma to win the dressing room, the supporters, the media. It was not as bad as feared but he still didn’t have the warmth to keep everyone on the bus with him. Amorim seems different and could win people over. He does seem more fiery too so there could be a concern if things go badly and he finds himself under the intense pressure Ten Hag has faced
  • Tactically Amorim is currently known to favour a back 3. This interests me but I’d feel more confident about him if he had proven success with a back 4 (maybe he has?). We have poor options at wing-back and can’t afford another squad overhaul. I’m hoping he is able to adapt his principles to the players we have at our disposal for this season and make the key changes he requires in the next summer window
Overall I’m cautiously optimistic. He seems successful, innovative and a good personality and will have the right support behind him off the pitch. I believe this group of players are better than they are showing and if they can just be reminded where the goal is then things could turn around quickly. I’m just not naive to be fooled that Amorim arrives as a far better coach than Ten Hag did.
One issue with ETH aside from not being good enough is that he wasn’t interested in us playing the way his Ajax team did. He seemed to go all in on the transition football dream and it proved a stupid decision.

There's much discussion and disagreement about the timing of Ten Hag's dismissal, but hats off to INEOS for landing what I think is again their first man on the list (lets forget about summer tuchel!)

Yeah the question still stands why they didn’t approach Amorim in the summer? Maybe @Sly can help answer the question - was there talk in Lisbon that we were talking to Amorim in the summer?

I think they have been looking since season ended but there were no good options, apparently Tuchel was courted but didn't happen.

8 wins or sack him and give it Giggsy

true... I dropped by Sky Football channel two seasons ago but I have heard of lots of Italian and Spanish managers but sorry didn't do my thesis on Di Zerbe or Hürzeler

I mean Spurs were linked with Arne Slot as well, so he was clearly known.

With respects to Hurzeler, Brighton get coaches to keep them at the level they are at, thats 1 team out of 20.

I remember people talking about Glasner in that manner.. only to realise its just a purple patch.

I'm just looking forward to hopefully no longer carving out an entire postcode of space in the middle of the pitch for us to be constantly overrun on the counter.

Has someone posted a decent video of Amorim-football broken down?

I need to get my heart broken again.

No. The talk was that he would stay till the summer of 2025.

Was Amorim an option in the summer?

I know he spoke with West Ham and turned them down or they turned him down, one or the other. There was interest and he was open to a move though.

I was one of those worried about INEOS just continuing with status quo. I am glad I was wrong and they acted. But that's what I want. My complaints to be proven wrong. In any case us fans moaning should not mean much to them. Particularly if they have a plan in place or working on it.

Which is why they didn't see the need to give fans an update after Spurs, when everyone was crying and asking what is happening and saying a big club this and that. Sky and the lot also had journalists outside INEOS offices where they held their board meeting hoping for something.

Instead, they knew what they were doing, went on with business, fans then started saying... oh he will never be sacked, standards are down the drain, we will have him till end of season.

Instead INEOS were proactive and instead of looking to give an interim the job after sacking him, which was the easy thing to do, they found someone and convinced him to take over mid season.

That is some feat, a manager who is on for winning the league 2 seasons in a row with 9/9 wins, top 8 in CL group.

Ironically it was Ten Hag who beat Anorim 1-5 and 4-2 in 21/22 CL group stages
