Journo: "United, meet Release Clause"
United: "Nice to meet you!"
Clause: "Nice to meet you!"

Even though Sporting have to inform the stock exchange of the official amount of his release clause, how many journalists will inflate the figure? Might have to resort to using yen as the currency to really make us look desperate and incompetent.

Erik was probably too damaged to fully benefit from the new structure and direction at the club. If Ten Hag was coming to us from Ajax now we would all be very excited about the potential. Unfortunately for him he came at a bad time and fell into the same old pitfalls of the old regime. Poor recruitment strategy, knee-jerk signings, off-field problems inherited like Ronaldo, Sancho, leading to a patchwork squad, bad results, unclear tactical direction, odd team selections, desperation. His star had already fallen quite far prior to the summer and the uncertainty of a new hierarchy above him has undermined him to the point of his position being untenable. Amorim shouldn’t have these problems and as the first managerial appointment of Ineos should have a solid backin

To be honest, I don't quite understand this take. Erik's first season with us is relatively the most successful during his time here. After a patchy start we can start to see the team taking shape slowly. He was fully supported in getting rid of Ronaldo. We took the game to Barcelona and played well at Camp Nou. He was also helped by Rashford having a purple patch who seemingly is able to score from any half chances he gets.

If anything, I feel that everything suddenly just unraveled after the 7-0 loss to Liverpool. It was as if a collective lack of trust in EtH tactics formed after that match and his team was never quite the same again.

Let's see when he comes, with who he comes and how he will be supported.

I am not a big fan of the idea of buying tons of players, but to be honest if Amorim wants to play 343 like Sporting, we need a left wing back and need to accomodate Garnacho and Rashford too.

So he'll have plenty of things to do.

I'm stunned by the speed of our movement. Impressive stuff.

We know who we want, that's for sure.

true... I dropped by Sky Football channel two seasons ago but I have heard of lots of Italian and Spanish managers but sorry didn't do my thesis on Di Zerbe or Hürzeler

There's a wide range between haven't heard of them and didn't do my thesis.

Any reliable news on who your replacement will be? I saw you were linked to João Pereira who from what I can tell hasn't managed anywhere?
João Pereira was a former Sporting right back and current Sporting B coach. These are just rumors. He will probably be a temporary solution till we get a real manager. Two names appeared. Leonardo Jardim, Who already managed us and Abel Ferreira, manager of Brazilian champions Palmeiras. I'd go for Leonardo Jardim.

If we go 2-4-3, at least we might finally be able to control midfield and not get out played by the Coventry Citys of the world. I've been saying we should have at least gone 4-4-2 to ease matters. Let's hope if he comes in, he can find a proven goal-scorer quickly
Amorim is good but playing with 10 men every game? He is not that good. :)

"The figure believed to be somewhere between 10 and 20 million" > "The 20 million pound fee" > "The record 30 million pound release clause"

His time has come:

Not a bad option TBF.

Remember him being really highly rated at Monaco and surprised he's still only 50.

They messed up in June but this is what they did great. Picked a good manager and closed the deal very quicky.
This deserves praise.

Not really, I think it’s evident the hierarchy were waiting for Berrada and Ashworth to start their roles. It’s already been reported they are the key decision makers.

‘3-4-3’ I hope. 2 at the back will be pushing it a bit. Will allow freedom to the attacking players.

I am loving reading about his record of promoting youth players then remembering the stellar crop of academy players we currently have.

I think those dismissing Amass playing a lot in the second half of the season may be wrong.

Speed of movement would have been parting ways with ETH shortly after the FA cup final but better late than never I guess.

Absolutely zero dithering since Monday. And it's only Tuesday. I do enjoy how fast things appear to get done once we've made our minds up.

I know Ashworth and co. are thinking long term and you’d have to be a fool to not understand they’ll be judged over time. Having said that, they obviously already had Amorim lined up, and I’d find it very hard to believe the players and former manager weren’t aware they were essentially auditioning, which in hindsight makes the decision to go into the season under those circumstances a little baffling. It seems to be a good hire and someone a few other clubs were chasing so I can’t really complain, but it looks like they might have went into the season knowing who ETH’s replacement would if things went tits up.

I'm impressed by our senior management getting such an important appointment right within days of our manager leaving.

One of the best young managers in Europe too.

We've avoided a media circus AND far exceeded everyones expectations of having to wait till the summer for the manager to come on board.

We have far too many senior players to promote academy players. We should have been even more ruthless in the summer in terms of culling this horrifically bloated squad.

Antony is the only one who could maybe be coached into that role. Rashford, Garnacho and Amad are all wide forwards.
As were several of the players Amorim has used in those positions for Sporting. But yeah, Rashford is unlikely. But maybe Garnacho, who knows. His work rate has increased a lot

Yeah Sporting has release a memo saying we agreed to pay his release clause.

That was quick. Didn't leave much time for people to pick a side before he signed.

Anyway, can't wait to see if he can make anything out of this lot.

Do feel a big bad they clearly tapped him up behind Ten Hags back, but it was the right move
