Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

He doesn’t play a 343 standard formation he likes one second striker type and one playmaking winger as the two behind the out and out number 9, his favoured formation is 3421 set up but he wants his GK and Defence to play a high line so it’s almost 1-3-2-5 as he tries to own the other team in their own half, the keeper is 15-20 yards higher than penalty Area, the 3 man defence on the half way line 2 Man mobile midfield 20 yards higher and the 5 attacking players, rotating with the wing backs, key to success as when they lose the ball he demands that they get back into 5-4-1 defensive strategy.

Players like Lenny Yoro, Martinez and De light will benefit as they will have a far more compact defensive unit with Ugarte and Mainoo in front of them.

Martinez will be able to use his passing game to be far more effective and United will need an offensive left wing back, Alvero Fernandez and Ben Chillwell are back on the menu as relative cheap options that are suitable to his system.
I bumped the Chilwell thread as he would do very well in this system bombing forward. It is what he does best.

Seems like a likeable person. Has energy and seem to speak a bit better English.

I’m positive!

I was positive when EtH arrived as well, but his personality ruined him for me rather quickly. His stubbornness and non tactical skills just made me loose interest in the team as well.

But we, as fans, must cheer all new managers on in the same sense we a critique them.

 surely the mainstay in the starting 11, who captained us to a cup final victory over the best team in Europe a few months ago... surely that guy will instantly be stripped of the captaincy by the incoming manager.
Keane is 100% right. Great teams players hold players to account. A great player doesn’t mean a great captain. Based on this years form he’s only a mainstay because the manager didn’t fancy anyone else.

Anyone familiar with his system know if his back three is always pure CBs?

I’m wondering if first choice it will eventually be:

Yoro - De Ligt - Martinez

However if we are struggling for a fit CB could the likes of Mazraoui, Dalot or Shaw (lol) slot into the back three seamlessly?

I assume the system relies on having at least one of the wider of the three having the pace to cover in behind?

Yes, but Shaw has shown he can do it even under ETH. They also need to be very capable on the ball because when his side has possession in attack, they maintain a very high line and, most importantly, it's (mostly) on them to recycle possession and initiate an attacking move. Earlier in the build-up, sometimes he likes to utilize the keeper and push one centre-half next to the defensive midfielder (basically a 2-3 shape that becomes a 3-3 with the GK). So, that's (give or take) the profiles you're looking at.

Who happens to be Portuguese and from the same club side, yep surely he’ll strip his fellow country man, more likely create a Portuguese Cartel with Dalot as his first lieutenant.

He’ll bring Dionande to be Amad’s Minder and he’ll be doing everything to tap up Gyrokes where we send them 3/4 young players in return plus £50m for big swede, we like a big Swede up front?

If Amirom has any sense he wouldn't do it now , but surely it would be done in Summer if we aren't able to move him .

The guy who has captained us to 8th and now 14th. Whose performances is questionable. Who doesn’t inspire others by whiny attitude

Another £200m spend needed once he realises he doesn’t have the players to play his 3-4-3? You’ll be needing a pair of proper wingbacks at the very least and having to ship out Bruno who doesn’t fit anywhere in an Amorim system. At least he’s a pragmatist and a reasonable coach so I anticipate results will improve. But there’s more to fix at united than just the coach.
There were meetings with potential candidates in recent months. I’m sure part of those discussions were around how will they maximise the potential of the existing team/ incorporate his ideal system with what players are available.

He’ll know what’s available squad wise and the likelihood of investment in the short and mid term, so it’s not like he’s taking the job blindly.

So would you guys want him in before the Chelsea game and hope for an instant new manager bounce, or would you rather give that one to Ruud to give Amorim an easier start to his United career?

If it’s an “immediate start” for me have Ruud take Leicester and Chelsea, but Amorim in attendance for Chelsea and then he takes over after.

He won't be directing United's transfer business unless we only assembled this so called new structure just for shits and giggles .

They've already basically admitted they made 1 big mistake last summer, would the really want to admit to another by bringing Alvaro back and a bigger price than they sold him for in the summer.
That wouldn't be 'admitting' anything like that for 2 big reasons. One, the deal was already in place with the old regime. The terms of the loan being turned into a permanent deal had nothing to do with INEOS or the new people employed by them.

Secondly, the whole point of deals like this is that you see if the young player with potential develops enough and, if he does, you utilise the buy back option. So us signing Alvaro back at some point won't be any evidence of any past mistake from the new regime.

How are the Portuguese such good English speakers? Jose, Dalot, Bruno, even Ugarte (not Portuguese but from that league) all seem to have a really good command of English. Good enough to engage in humour and speak really eloquently. I don't know whether it's to do with more recent times as I don't think Nani or Ronaldo were as fluent when they came.

I'd be surprised if he's in charge for Chelsea. Given we've a game tomorrow night I'd imagine it wouldn't be a full training session on Thursday which would only leave Friday. Easier to just let Ruud take the Chelsea game I would have thought with Ruben just in the background until then

Amorim said himself all transfer business were done by Hugo Viana, he had little input on that matter.

The Times reporting Ruud is only expected to be in charge for Leicester.

For me, this is the first time where the Zirkzee signing has made a bit of sense. He's not the only one either.

Have to wonder if this was in the works for a while.

The speed of this suggests it's been lined up for a while. The signing of Ugarte over ETH's tactical objections suggests Wilcox has been undermining ETH since the summer. Playing Casemiro instead of Ugarte on Sunday was a clear Fek U to the board.

Ye but we can’t really go of a lot of partnerships under ETH as the system was a complete mess.

He was clearly trying to do one thing while Wilcox was buying players to do something else. Goes back to how Wilcox made him play false number 9 in the cup final. Only one way that could end.

The two cup games either side of Chelsea are the results I'm more nervous about. Ones a knockout game, the other really needs to be our first EL victory of the campaign.

So whichever gives him best preparation for the PAOK match - can't decide whether that's getting a game under his belt, and the team starting to get used to his demands; or giving him time to get more settled by letting Ruud take charge of the Chelsea game.

Just hope we get it all sorted in time so that it's even an issue. Still seems mixed reports on whether or not he'll leave mid-season, but does look more and more promising that we'll get it wrapped up quickly.

Save the flight tickets and send these lads in again

You know that giddy excitement you feel at the prospect of a new manager coming in to put United back on top?

Should know better by now, but what can I say, I’m feeling it yet again.
As hardened United fans, we need to be humble and realistic, if we back this guy as he’s a very young coach, we could have a guy that rules for a decade But we must be patient and realistic, just because he has a 72% win rate in Portugal with Braga and Sporting, we all know that doesn’t translate to the PL but if he can stabilise the squad and finish with 62% Win, Draw 19, Loss 19% in say 27 PL games, hoping that RVN gets us at least 3 from the next 6.We beat Leicester lose to Chelsea?

We might have 14 points from 11 games, if Ruben got the 62/19/19 rule then we would
17 wins, 5 draws, 5 Defeats so 56 points added to 14 = 70 points

Let me be clear here, I genuinely think this is the absolute max that United can obtain this season and it would need an awful lot to go right. I also thinks that 68-72 points puts you 5th -6th this season.

The Top 3 will get 80 points plus and Chelsea or Villa will get 72-76, we have to starting beating both these sides if we are to make the Top 5 which will make the CL this season.

Our best hope is to win Europa League and start showing some consistency on the pitch for opposing teams to start to fear United again.

I wonder if it’s contractual. We are basically exactly 1/4 of the way into the season, you could argue next match but it’s a fraction and it’s mathematically impossible for us to be in the Top 4 next match anyway. Before the weekend that wasn’t the case.

It’s possible that was one of the short term goals and ten Hag not achieving that goal made him cheaper to sack or at least that was his goal so we fired him on that basis regardless of financial implications.

He has to apply for a permit to work in the UK this will take three weeks.

I was stationed in the Azores, which is Portuguese. Everyone there was required to learn English in school. If you approached locals with English, No Sabe Nada. If you struggled a bit with Portuguese, most would see this is going to be quicker to use English and they spoke it perfectly.

I hope he gets his own staff in and isn't stuck with Ten Hags latest Dutch crew all season

I quite like Jonathan Wilson, at least when he talks about obscure football tactics from the 1970s or whatnot. But he really has it in for United these days.

As far as I can remember he has always been negative to us. I don't think I've ever read an article of his for that reason.

Precisely!!
I’m sure it won't be done right away but he should be nowhere near the captaincy.
I’m just happy that we appear to have a plan for once…….

Random aside - I was visiting Portugal for the first time and based on my experience in France / Spain assumed I needed some combination of English, Google translate and hand gestures to get my point across and looked like a total fool when the bus driver at the Lisbon airport just responded in perfect English.

Maybe the historical alliance with the English and the friendly ties helped.
