Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

I'd replace Amad with Mainoo with Bruno drifting to the right. It's difficult to translate Sporting playing style to United with the players that you have. For example we have two very good ball playing and passing CBs in Debast and Inácio and there's no equivalent at United.
Ok, cheers.

Guess we’ll see what is what soon enough!

My one concern about him is his links to man city, I like to think we are not just after him because he is being linked with man city because whenever we have recruited someone that has been linked to man city it has not ended well for us in recent years - sanchez, maguire, ronaldo
This is all incidental and will not be the reason he will fail if he is to do so.

Another £200m spend needed once he realises he doesn’t have the players to play his 3-4-3? You’ll be needing a pair of proper wingbacks at the very least and having to ship out Bruno who doesn’t fit anywhere in an Amorim system. At least he’s a pragmatist and a reasonable coach so I anticipate results will improve. But there’s more to fix at united than just the coach.

Onana

De Ligt Maguire Martinez

Mazraoui Mainoo Ugarte Amass

Bruno Garnacho

Hojlund

I am genuinely happy to see my United fans in real life very excited about getting Amorim. We would seriously appreciate you being shit for one more week. I don’t think it is too much to ask!

People focus way too much on three at the back as if that was the entire definition of his style
100%

It is delusional to think that any quality coach is going to be stuck in one formation and unable to adapt their style to different league and different squad

The definition of a good tactical coach is that they need to develop new system for premier league and current United squad specifically

Anything less is amateur hour.

Until proven otherwise, we should give Amorim the benefit of doubt that he is not primitive and knows what he is doing

Probably still be the cheapest option out there for what looks like a promising left wing back.

They've already basically admitted they made 1 big mistake last summer, would the really want to admit to another by bringing Alvaro back and a bigger price than they sold him for in the summer.

I’m optimistic about this, I’m very happy ETH is gone. I’m realistic that the upcoming managers from other leagues don’t always make it.

Vilas Boas, ETH, Emery (arsenal), Postecoglu are four that sping to mind but Klopp, Wenger, Mourinho show that lesser known managers can make it.

Be interesting to see if players out injured all of a sudden push themselves and are miraculously back a bit quicker now.

Don’t know too much about the new man but the stuff I read is promising. Fingers crossed it all falls into place from here.

Would be a very exciting appointment. How do we think he'd lineup (assuming a fully fit squad.. I know) ? I know he's a 343 man with two holding CM's, but don't know much beyond that and his very impressive record to date.

Something like this perhaps makes sense on the face of it:

Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Martinez
Dalot - Ugarte - Mainoo - Shaw
Garnacho - Hojlund - Rashford

I can't see where Bruno fits in there easily. Maybe RW as a more creative option?

God knows. I'm just glad to be moving on from Eric's marvelous disappearing midfield. And he's got a decent head of hair too.
He doesn’t play a 343 standard formation he likes one second striker type and one playmaking winger as the two behind the out and out number 9, his favoured formation is 3421 set up but he wants his GK and Defence to play a high line so it’s almost 1-3-2-5 as he tries to own the other team in their own half, the keeper is 15-20 yards higher than penalty Area, the 3 man defence on the half way line 2 Man mobile midfield 20 yards higher and the 5 attacking players, rotating with the wing backs, key to success as when they lose the ball he demands that they get back into 5-4-1 defensive strategy.

Players like Lenny Yoro, Martinez and De light will benefit as they will have a far more compact defensive unit with Ugarte and Mainoo in front of them.

Martinez will be able to use his passing game to be far more effective and United will need an offensive left wing back, Alvero Fernandez and Ben Chillwell are back on the menu as relative cheap options that are suitable to his system.

Feels abit early to add him on that list. Think he'll do well in Spurs eventually.
I like him, as a Glaswegian I thought he was amazing for Celtic. I can sense the vultures and press circling though and Levi won’t accept 5th or 6th as he actually thinks they are a massive club.

Surely Bruno can’t still be captain. Who could he give it to?

Of course he can. I would say the vast majority of managers arriving in these circumstances wouldn't change the captain upon arriving. Further down the line, maybe.

Mainoo is not quite a double pivot midfielder or a classic number 8. Playing in a midfield two, with a back 3 behind him to provide slightly more cover and allow him to roam ideally suits him IMO.

That makes sense, I guess the back 3 (alongside a out-and-out destroyer type) would provide that adequate cover like you say; if Matheus Nunes can play there effectively - somebody I would consider to profile as a slightly more offensive-minded midfielder than Mainoo - I'm sure it can work for Kobbie. Here's hoping he can regain the form from last year under a new manager!

How refreshing is it that the club actually seems to have a plan and the ability to make it happen quickly? You could argue they could have done something sooner with ETH, but if they manage to turn it around with only 1 game with an interim I'd say that's worked out well.

Bruno worries me in any system in any style of play that any manager we hire.

Bruno is capable of playing CM/AM/RW or even LW. He's probably a master of none of them but will probably get a key role in the starting 11. He's become a jack of all trads type.

I don't know a lot about the 3-4-3 preferred by Amorin but I wouldn't trust Bruno in a CM 2 (I'd opt for Ugarte/Mainoo) and would prefer we played Garnacho or Amad off the RW. If he plays narrow forwards, again i'd like to see Amad playing there or possibly even Mount. Bruno cant dictate a game from deep for me - he's not tactically aware enough.

I dont think we'd need to spend as drastic as 200Mil but the Left Wing back area would be an urgent need, the rest would come in to replacements for those the new gaffer doesn't fancy.

New manager, new system, we may even see some players pick up some form and belief and fit into the style of play needed. Anthony, Zirkzee for example may excel in a different environment.

For sure. Would love to see him sooner rather than later, though. No desire to watch Ruud cosplaying Ole for any longer than we have to
There is the caveat that he needs to apply for a right to work in the UK permit which can take up to 3 weeks, my guess is RVN is doing 4 games, Leicester (Carabo cup), Chelsea (PL), Leicester (PL) and PAOK (Europa league), if Everything is settled Ruben first game will be Ipswich away on 24th November, he has a month to evaluate the squad, give his list for January for the players he needs asap to implement his style and then inevitably get turned down as we’ve got no money !

I think the squad building efforts this summer put us in a decent position already. We have an array of CBs and Wide center backs. The LB / LWB situation is the biggest problem but I think he just has to find solutions there either by promoting from within or drafting in players like Antony.

The Davies links from earlier this week make sense in this context as well.

Didn't the club have a plan when getting ten Hag though?

It was INEOS who allowed him to leave permanently though rather than convincing him to stay.
Which is something we're likely going to do more often in the future. Sell the young players who are very talented but not quite able to break into our team, but put a decent buy-back clause in there. Them actually being owned by their new team (as opposed to just being on loan) makes it more likely they get the gametime and develop in a way that they won't here, and if things go well enough we can bring them back fairly easily.

Surely Bruno can’t still be captain. Who could he give it to?
 surely the mainstay in the starting 11, who captained us to a cup final victory over the best team in Europe a few months ago... surely that guy will instantly be stripped of the captaincy by the incoming manager.
