Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Random aside - I was visiting Portugal for the first time and based on my experience in France / Spain assumed I needed some combination of English, Google translate and hand gestures to get my point across and looked like a total fool when the bus driver at the Lisbon airport just responded in perfect English.

Maybe the historical alliance with the English and the friendly ties helped.

I spent all my summers in Portugal growing up as all my family live there and it almost certainly wasn't my experience growing up. Not many spoke English unless they needed to or went to more of the International schools. Maybe I was just hanging around the wrong places if it was more common than I thought

Either way, I think in the last decade or so it's become more common as the tourism there has boomed and you do see some big companies based themselves there opening up the need to learn/speak English

He has to apply for a permit to work in the UK this will take three weeks.
This isn’t a regular citizen applying for a tourist visa. Sports visa have a special process and it’s much quicker. How are we able to sign players today and play them 2 days from now?

I said last night that I realised that I am exactly as excited and optimistic about Amorim signing for us as I was about ten Hag and that thought was very sobering.

I was all in on ten Hag, I really believed we were signing the right profile - relatively young, on the up, tactically astute and seemingly ready to cut his teeth at a big club. The sort of manager we watched the likes of Brighton and Brentford go for and asked why we didn’t give them a chance.

I think you/I had every right to be excited about ETH. Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean we shouldn't have been optimistic.

I know less about Amorim, so not as excited but I am still hopeful he will coach us into a better team now with the players we have.

Keeping himself on ice for the world cup.

the LB/LWB position should be the priority in the upcoming window.

Save the flight tickets and send these lads in again

What's the story with these three? I forgot.

It sounds like he is the anointed one... I just wish we'd consider a few names and interview more than one. Doing otherwise landed us with Moyes - and everything that has followed

I'd replace Amad with Mainoo with Bruno drifting to the right. It's difficult to translate Sporting playing style to United with the players that you have. For example we have two very good ball playing and passing CBs in Debast and Inácio and there's no equivalent at United.
I don't know much about either of them but Martinez?

Sounds like we want him in place for the weekend game v Chelsea.

No messing around.

I guess something has been happening behind the scenes for a couple of weeks.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Basically because I’m one of the few who apparently believes INEOS knows what they’re doing. It’s hard to accept since we’ve had a decade of bobblehead Ed Woodward at the helm, but it’s pretty clear from the way we conducted transfer business in the summer that these guys aren’t fecking around.

There's been plenty of talk saying how we've spoken to a few managers. In the summer and more recently.

Can't believe the negativity around this from the outside.

I think INEOS have played a blinder...perhaps that's why people are upset actually...sulking because once again, we have proven that despite being terrible, we can attract top managers and players.

Imagine if his first decision as manager saw him name Chris Armas as assistant manager.

They spent the summer interviewing everyone under the sun. It's not like Amorim is the only name that has ever been considered.

From the apparent speed this is moving, it seems like they dithered on sacking Ten Hag exactly because they were finding the right candidate and getting this lined up behind the scenes.

I don't believe they interviewed anyone... might have sounded out availability so that didn't spend time looking at someone who couldn't/didn't want to come but I don't reckon it went further than that

The guy who has captained us to 8th and now 14th. Whose performances is questionable. Who doesn’t inspire others by whiny attitude
I guess we should have stripped Bryan Robson of the captaincy after our mid table finishes in the late 80s.

Roy Keane shouts at referee and teammates: Passion. Leader.

Bruno shouts at referee and teammates: Whiny. Attitude problem.

Another £200m spend needed once he realises he doesn’t have the players to play his 3-4-3? You’ll be needing a pair of proper wingbacks at the very least and having to ship out Bruno who doesn’t fit anywhere in an Amorim system. At least he’s a pragmatist and a reasonable coach so I anticipate results will improve. But there’s more to fix at united than just the coach.
Did you post just to wum ? If yes, I will leave it as is. If you really mean it, do you mind explaining the thought ?

We are actually in a very decent shape for any manager to take over and play whatever style they want. The missing link is a left back who can stay fit and a winger who can dribble . We did try for Olise but didn't happen. yes, someone expected Shaw to stay fit and that was a mistake. But you can't blame them for nor fixing everything over one window.

That’s just you conjecturing though. The media thinks otherwise, simply depends on what you want to believe.

Bruno is a fantastic player, if Amorim can unlock him that will go a long way towards getting us back to our best, and getting Hojlund the service he needs.

Keane and Bruno cannot be compared. Keane would have fought the world to protect his team mates. Keane shouted at team mates if they weren’t giving their all, Bruno rolls around like he’s been attacked by a cage fighter whenever he feels any contact and then throws his arms around like Kevin and Perry when he doesn’t get a foul. It’s not the same. We need leaders to win on a consistent basis.

Really?

It honestly sounds like we scoured Europe for the best possible fit. I'm not sure how you arrived at that viewpoint.

Will he get to bring his own coaches? Talk of sporting looking at his assistant to take over from him.

Spent close to a year reviewing, canvassing, interviewing and planning. Probably the most considered appointment we have had in years.

Hard to say, although the value of retaining one assistant that is tied to United will not be lost on him, which is why I think there may be some consideration for Ruud staying.
