Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Players likely to benefit:
Mainoo/Ugarte
Martinez
Bruno

Players i'm unsure how they fit:
Mazraoui
Amad - can he play in the wide wing back role?
Mount - I guess he just remains Bruno's backup.

Overall, the players fit quite nicely but we definitely need more depth in the wide positions.
Not sure Bruno will benefit. Amorim doesnt use central attacking midfielders.

I think Rashford / Garnacho will benefit too in the LAM role.

Mount could actually benefit too as he is very good in the hole between CB and MF, he can take the ball on a turn or bounce it back to someone.

Amad, I dont see fitting into his system unless. I dont see Zirkzee fitting in the system either because he wont run in behind and Almorin likes his strikers to make channel runs.

Should he bring in Roy as his assistent to keep the players in check?

What do you guys think Roy Keane will/would do exactly? And why do you think he’s needed for it? Did this work in Keane’s managerial career?

Players in their prime aren’t being moved nor intimidated by some old scowling TV pundit.

RvN is already involved in the staff set-up, we don’t need to load it with a bunch of ex-players

My worry would be another manager who's equally as ideologically obstinate and will turn up and plug away trying to make work what is obviously failing and refusing to change.

Not sure Bruno will benefit. Amorim doesnt use central attacking midfielders.

Amorim's front three tends to play quite narrow with the wing backs providing the width. Bruno in a free role with an extra player as cover behind him could actually benefit him, IMO.

A lot of people are assuming he’s going to bring the 3 at the back formation. But there’s a chance he may use 4 at the back as it suits the players and then introduce 3 at the back next season. I think Ugarte will benefit the most, Amorim likes a destroyer as his 6. He may opt to play Bruno and Mainoo as 2 8s if he goes 4-3-3

Would he? No compensation agreed yet and I'm unsure if he can do this before the visa.
I'm sure you can sign all the documentation pending a visa. It's probably needed for the visa application. Regards to compensation, both parties have said it's not an issue and discussions are ongoing, doesn't mean he can't travel.

I wouldn't imagine!
A deal would have to be agreed with Sporting first and unless those talks started well before yesterday I think that is premature.
Both clubs have said the compensation isn't an issue, they're just working out details. They won't want him around taking training if they're currently negotiating his release, they'll just let him travel instead.

If we get this guy and he plays how he seems to play for sporting I think it will be great for garnacho. Can definitely see him doing well in a front 3, the works really hard off the ball.

Yep, agree with this. Hindsight is everything, but with the information we had at that time, ETH was a very exciting appointment. The appointment was the right decision, sticking with him for so long might not have been.
The same can be said for Amorim if we get him, best current option but no one can know how it plays out. Just need to set some very objective criteria to measure progress, and if progress isn't delivered we try again.
The thing with Ten Hag was there was PLENTY of objective criteria against him, but there was the FA Cup that recovered him a few life bars. The rest is history. But in general measuring progress is not a problem of course. Generally speaking it's not like a manager gets fired because he's "meh".
I think so ETH didn't work out but I think the only regret is not sacking him sooner, rather than not appointing him at all. It was a sensible, much more so than our previous managerial moves.
Exactly. Similar to for example Sancho, I thought that was a right move at that time to get him. He failed and that's it, and also not a reason to miss out on the next hot prospect. It happens. But it's also a coping mechanism that I can hardly get excited at this point.
I am actually more excited for a new manager than any transfer to be honest.

Isn’t it like 10m if any big club come in for him. Aslong as we pay that we don’t need to agree anything.
Im sure the compensation agreement can be swift (unless we are trying to haggle over the structure of it).

But I don't see how he can sign docs, wait for the visa, but fly here for the other bits. Maybe he can - lord knows on the logistics.

He probably can, and just sit in the stands watching the game(s) until he's given the green light.

Yep, assumption based on his tactics at Sporting for the last few years. We say it suits the players but does it? 3 at the back might suit the players better with Licha, De Ligt, Yoro, Mainoo and Ugarte in CM. This gives Bruno Rashford some freedom whilst having Dalot/ Maz / Shaw as full backs.

I suspect most of this stuff was done before the West Ham game. Ten Hag was getting booted regardless I suspect due to how fast they seem to have identified a replacement and got it 'done'. It's been less than 48 hours. It took Liverpool over 6 months to find Klopp's replacement.

Fixed

Quite a small league the Portuguese one. This would be a big step up for Amorin. Half the teams in the Portugal get less than 3000 a week, that’s comparable the English National League clubs.. It’s a very low key league compared to the PL. It’s way smaller than the Dutch league too.

Not the experience needed IMO, but that doesn’t he won’t be successful.

I might be completely wrong but I think we are going to see a big new manager bounce. Can’t help but think the players are going to be feeling liberated and energised and that’s going to breed confidence.

I'm not sure on Mainoo, is he the ideal fit for that other CM role alongside the destroyer (Ugarte)?

Mazraoui I think would be a great fit for the RWB role considering they tend to play a bit of a balance of attacking / supporting roles (Shaw would also be great in the other LWB slot as that supporting presence in midfield and progressive passer if he were ever fit...).

For me I'd think Dalot might be the one who struggles to fit in. More of a natural full-back than pure wing-back so I'm not sure how well he'd fit a 3-4-2-1.

So Ruud only gets 1 game?

As much as I've wanted Amorim for a couple years, I still expected (maybe even want) him to come in the summer. Let Ruud do this season so Amorim isn't tainted with this season's poor start and judged cos of it
No way. If Ruud does well then Amorim comes in at a disadvantage, if Ruud does poorly then we should not have waited for Amorim. Get him in now, people say it’s a free hit this season (though I agree with you it won’t be) and let’s see what he can do.

I like the sound of Amorim but do the posters on here really think he's going to make Rashford, Bruno, Garno world beaters all of a sudden?
You can talk formations and tactics all you want, but it's still with the same players under ETH.
Sure, some of these players will benefit under Amorim but some wouldn't change even under Fergie or Pep. You just have to accept some of them are shite.
I'd be more interested in who he brings in January (if any) or next summer. Until then, he's still dealing with ETHs cronies like Anthony.

If this gets done, then are people expecting him to start the job mid-season or end of it? Haven't seen any articles yet saying what the likely scenario is.

Not sure why you've lumped Garnacho in with Bruno and Rashford for a start

That's madness. Get the full time guy in asap.

Why waste time with Ruud when the new manager could be implementing his ideas?

You really think it's a good idea to waste 9 months with an unproven interim in charge?
