Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Lets see how big a pair of cojones he's got - because hes' going to need to make some BIG decisions straight off the bat - and yes Rashy - that involves you

Do we have the players who can play his style or are we back to needing another four windows again? Which players are likely to benefit from him?

Maybe I’m overthinking this but does anyone think that Berrada may be using his inside knowledge of City’s 115 charges as a negotiation tactic to convince Amorim to avoid the potential chaos coming their way and not to wait around. Seemed like he would be the front runner for that job when Pep leaves with Viana taking over.

Anyway I think it’s an exciting appointment and while I’m disappointed and frustrated of how INEOS have handled the whole managerial situation, it’s good to see us be proactive and appoint a new manager so quickly after finally sacking Ten Hag.

Of all the reasons to be excited about this, I am quite excited to see what a formation with a back 3 can really be like. United being the only team I actually follow, I've never seen what it can be like week in week out

Edit: I am really not a fan of this "fullback joining CM and other teams pushing up" tactic that teams are doing in our league, so I would be delighted to see us try something different

What happened to that long-term poster, something something Sporting Lisbon ??

I hear he builds a strong team spirit. I just hope he is able to do so at the United circus which is likely to be very different to the Sporting situation

Call me a pessimist but weren't we all this excited when ETH was announced as Many Utd manager. Even during poll overwhelming majority chose ETH. And look how that turned out. Although I am really excited about this news but am not getting my hopes up. I will only believe the hype once I see the results.
I wanted him and was glad when he signed. So this time I stay neutral and see how things turn out

What's the point of it all if you can't let yourself get a little excited mate? We have something new to look forward to. Sure it might fail, but it might also succeed!

It’s not pessimism, we’ve just been burnt so many times that we almost expect the next manager to have a 2-3 season with limited success. There are some parallels with what Amorim and Ten Hag have achieved in lesser leagues, therefore carrying same risk, but what I’ve read so far is Amorims super power was Erik ten hags weakness. He’s able to galvanise and lead staff, players, fans whereas Ten Hag lacked that and in my opinion was one of the main contributors to his demise.

All we can do is what we usually do and back the club and manager.

- develops youth
- good man-manager
- no bs approach, requires effort and dedication
- tactician
- attacking football, but possible to be deployed with our current personnel
- would be a top choice for most of the elite clubs
- likely to come in ASAP

Can't lie, I'm excited

Surprised about the Amorim noise, but would be very happy with him.

I wonder if this has actually been in the pipeline for quite a while, given how quickly it seems to (maybe) be happening.
Yeah. Will probably remind certain posters of when we sacked Atkinson and appointed Fergie next day!

all this would fit ETH 3 years ago when we hired him

I'm happy with this (potential) appointment. I think it's probably informed by the players we currently have among other things. There was a data-led analysis by some football analytics company that assessed the suitability of various head coaches including then-incumbent, ETH, and Amorim was top of the list.

We'll see.

I dont care if he playes 3 or 6 at the back as long as we dominate on the pitch especially in midfield for once

The few of them highly rate Amorim and have been pretty spot on when it comes to player recommendations. They'd be better scouts than what we have at the club.

Hopefully they're as accurate as they are with managers.

Yeah I hope he brings them with him! Shame that that young midfielder moved to Psg

Sounds good to me.

Not sure why but the first manager since Saf that makes my nipples erect.

Moyes, decent coach but did not manage that.
LvG, did not do wonders at Barca or Bayern, a bit too old perhaps. Just doesn`t seem to work for these stubborn dutch philosophers outside of Netherlands. If you are not Michels..
Never liked Jose, extremely toxic self absorbed narcissist.
Ole, loved him as a player and person, but did not rate him as a manager.
Erik, not another stubborn dutch ***********. Seems to require so much to get it to work for them.

Ruben, young manager that has done wonders at Sporting, at least seems to be able to adapt to what he has and improve players already at the club. 3 at the back is exciting to me, we haven`t managed to get the 4 at the back to work out great for us in a long time, it might be time to try something else.
Spanish managers seems to be able to work out very well in the PL at least and i guess Portugal is close enough for him to share some of the qualities, ideas, and mindset needed to make it work here.
Very excited for this, cmon, get this over the line!

Well... when Kenyon left for Chelsea, he brought with him quite a lot of United's institutional knowledge then.

What goes round...

For all the shit which Glazers get i think that their choice of managers was mostly logical and in the line with fans wishes.

Moyes. Only him was the wrong one.
Solskjaer. He was good move for interim but then they made huge mistake with hiring him as permanent.
Ragnick. He was good shout for interim.
Lvg and Jose. They were spot on decisions back then. Proven, top class winners.
ETH. He was what Amorim is today. Hot stuff in Europe.

Think the whole 3 at back is a bit of a nonsense. For most of last season,we played a 3 with dalot tucking into midfileld and whover the makeshift LB playing deep

Isn't it the same what we thought Ten Hag will be?
I'm not saying we're making a mistske here, but I do think ETH should just be considered a blip and we just need to try again with similar "promising" manager. We're due a good coach with the number of managers that went through us, that's for sure...

Reddit tells me he stubbornly plays 3 at the back. How will that work with us?
I think CB is our strongest position. De Ligt, Martinez plus Lenny Yoro is literally perfect for Amorim. We would need another one in addition though I’d imagine

all this would fit ETH 3 years ago when we hired him

Like most Dutch people, ETH was not an expressive type, probably timid and bit awkward, I think he lacked some emotion and the (hate this word lately) charisma. Amorim is an expressive Portuguese that is renowned for his motivation and team building/bonding qualities.

De Ligt in the middle instead of Yoro like @chris123 lined them up and I think this could very well be the default XI that Amorim would start out with. Only part I'm unsure about is the full-backs. Maybe it's time for Amass to break through?
It will be a lot easier for Amass to break through within a 3-5-2 system due to the extra defensive cover he’ll receive and licence to go forward which is the strongest part of his game at the moment

I don't know much about him and I was stung way too hard on ten Hag to get carried away with excitement.

I just hope he can instill a clear identity of play and an exciting brand of football.
