Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

Yah. ETH also brought Ajax to the top of league. See what happened? We should be going for Xabi. At least he has managed a proper team that can match Bayern Munich.
Sporting hadn't been at the top in 2 decades, the eredivisie has been Ajax's birthright almost throughout their history (Like Bayern in Germany)

Very different contexts there

Winning with Sporting in a stronger league is much more of an accomplishment.

I’m glad we have a good working relationship with you guys!

Also why exactly did the Pool move break down? His release clause?
What was sold to us was that Liverpool didn't like some of his demands and opted for the bald Dutch guy not named Ten Hag.

My word, I’ve just seen that Amorim’s Sporting have won 38 of their last 43 league games, scoring 126 goals in the process. He’s also the one responsible for turning Gyokeres, who is by all accounts of a very similar profile to Højlund, into a beast. Oh, and City very clearly wanted him to replace Pep.

Turning 1 striker in to a beast doesnt mean he will be able to do the same with another, ETH turned Seb Haller in to a beast but couldnt do the same with Hojlund.

Hojlund looks a good player as much as Shaw looks a good player. When they can stay fit and can get into form they’re great. So far the minute he gets any form he gets injured. There was talk of a back injury when we signed him. Why gamble £70m on an unproven player if there is even the slightest risk of a consistent injury.
Way too early to club him with Shaw. He played a lot of games in his first season. If he spends the rest of this season injured then your point might have more credibility.

Yes but he did win us his second league, beat Spurs in the CL and eliminated Arsenal in the EL. There was an evolution. I think that he needed to finish this season with us, being the first manager in 70 years to win us two leagues in a row and see how far he could take us in this new CL format. But I understand that you can't say No to a club of United's stature. I'd prefer him to stay but will understand if he goes.

Great to hear. Thanks man. Sorry for your loss and him not being able to finish what he started.

Im really excited to see him at OT.

Wondering what achievement will be brought up in 2 years time to his defense

Woke up to the frustration of Ten Hag still being manager
Then during the day the satisfaction that he's finally sacked
Now in the evening, sheer exhilaration that Amorim is actually coming in.

What a difference a day made

I’m going to be honest and say that I’ve not watched a single Sporting game since they beat Arsenal in the EL (I will definitely watch them play City if he’s not with us by then though), but all the signs indicate a good appointment.

Gutted for Erik, but if we were to get Amorim or Nagelsmann over the line, it’s exciting times for us.
It's not like Ten Hag had MUCH more impressive CV than Amorim, when he joined us

United is where managers' careers die

If he leaves this will really hurt us. I'm getting depressed already. Amorim was a game changer for us. Losing him to United, combining that with losing our DoF to Citeh and probably Gyokeres to Arsenal or Chelsea going by the rumors and we will probably finish 4th next year!

I'm happy to see Ten Hag finally leaving, but I'm not convinced this is a good idea. If he is married to playing three at the back, wouldn't that mean we would be moving away from playing wingers? Just feels like a strained fit for our squad, history, and the tactical meta of the Premier League.

The whole mishap of him negotiating with West Ham last season, Liverpool passing on him allegedly due to his tactical setup among other things has me not really feeling this one so far. I'm sure he is a competent manager, and his work with Sporting is really impressive, but in the same way that I wouldn't be rooting for Inzaghi getting the job this just feels like a wrong fit.

If they do go down this path, they must have their reasons. I hope to be proven wrong.
If things go badly I can see a lot of people getting upset with the 3 at the back, possibly in the media as there'll be references to the United teams of old and United DNA and all that. People didn't like it in LvG's first season.

As others have said though it's supposedly more of a 3-4-3 with wingers so we'll see. Personally I've never been convinced that 3 at the back is some grave insult to attacking football- it depends how it's set up. That Liverpool team of the mid 90s were very attacking and their defence was often shite but they played some good football in a 5-3-2 (won feck all though ;)). I guess it all depends on the intent.

I bet, you will be posting angrily to sack Amorim, before June :)

Be wary of micro updates. Plettigol for example said Amorim isn't leaving mid season, 2 hours before the exclusive that he was open to doing so.

Hey, I'm no expert on the guy. Just doesn't feel like a good fit to me. And he publically apologized after the whole West Ham debacle. Not a great look in my opinion.

As far as I can tell, his system is built with wingbacks in mind, so that means no traditional wingers? I don't think anyone was talking about playing 4-3-3 necessarily, and I think we could be playing attacking football with appoiting Amorim in particular.

And personally I just really like football with an emphasis on wing play, and it's been the back bone of a number of United squads throughout our history. That does matter to me.

I think the wingbacks in his system are pretty much wingers. Thanks to the two CDMs there's plenty of steele behind the ball when they move up. It's a fairly balanced system.

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s Amorim,

when the world seems to shine like you had to much wine, that’s Amorim

Playing 3 at the back and your striker is cack that’s amorim

Can’t attack Down the wing cause we’re shite at crossing that’s amorim

Can’t play at good tempo cause they’re so fecking slow that’s Amorim

But he’ll win the league cup and the fans will say yup that’s Amorim

No to 352, but if he’s not wedded to that then I’m more open. Xavi would have been my preferred option. I think he’s the sort of manager we need to completely destroy this Bruno/Rashford ball that has become our culture. He might not be the best, but if he did that at least then I’d be pleased.

Amorim I’m indifferent, happy to give him a chance as I appreciate his achievements in Portugal. But no to 352 for me.

Based on my expertise of having watched a couple of tactical analysis videos, it seems Hojlund could be a great fit for Amorim's style of having a lone striker who can run channels. I remember seeing Hojlund doing a lot of that when he was at Atalanta and barely got to do it in ETH's team where he was basically assigned to stay in the middle and hold up the ball. And he has the pace and physicality to do it as well.

Got a funny feeling we don’t end up getting him, mainly because I’ve allowed myself to be “all in” on this move!

No to 352, but if he’s not wedded to that then I’m all for it.
Suprised by your lack of enthusiasm for a real reaction. Oh you will have to get used to the 352. I remember I was skeptical as well but got converted.

I couldn't give a flying feck what formation we play as long as it's effective.

As if the formation is the thing that matters

First I heard of him was when Liverpool were linked to him.

Researching him today on YouTube. He does seem to have a steely personality. Have no idea what his coaching or his style of play is. But he does have a “presence” about him. Don’t think the media will making “suite too big for him” comments as they did with ETH.

I'm thinking this too, we are not getting him, in saying that, does Ruud deserve a shot

Hopefully he won’t show favour to Portuguese players like Dalot. I can’t wait to see the back of him.

Something tells me the one fullback we have who is capable of staying fit for an entire season is unlikely to be in trouble for a while.

Does this include European football too ?
Add His 13 game stint at Braga where he won 10 Drew 1 lost 2 and won their Donestic cup and he has 180 wins from 250 matches or a 72% Win rate, impressive?
