Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

You aren't getting Gyokeres. You already have Hojlund and Zirkzee there and you have way more pressing needs. If you were to splash money in Sporting player, I'd buy Quenda our 17 year old wonder kid to replace Dalot. He fits Amorim system like a glove.
What is Amorim's preferred system?

I'm happy to see Ten Hag finally leaving, but I'm not convinced this is a good idea. If he is married to playing three at the back, wouldn't that mean we would be moving away from playing wingers? Just feels like a strained fit for our squad, history, and the tactical meta of the Premier League.

The whole mishap of him negotiating with West Ham last season, Liverpool passing on him allegedly due to his tactical setup among other things has me not really feeling this one so far. I'm sure he is a competent manager, and his work with Sporting is really impressive, but in the same way that I wouldn't be rooting for Inzaghi getting the job this just feels like a wrong fit.

If they do go down this path, they must have their reasons. I hope to be proven wrong.

He must've been the no.1 target all along given the swift news that we've seen this move immediately after the ETH announcement this morning.

I'm excited, Bayern, Liverpool and even Citeh have been interested in him recently. Seems quite the ambitious type and at a great age in today's game

Think so but I'd prefer for him to finish the year and see how he does against City and Arsenal in the CL.

He got exposed against Pep in the first time. But he was young back then and he became more pragmatic after that CL tie. He did well against Arteta and Conte though.

Problem with waiting is that you may lose him.

I have been banging the drum for Amorim for over a year.

I remember me asking you in December and you said....

I think I already gave my opinion in some thread about him. United needs a proven, near unanimous name to instill respect and discipline. They just can't miss in the next appointment. Amorim still needs to gain more experience and keep proving himself. I wouldn't go for him next. Maybe in the future if he keeps evolving and have more success. United is the pinnacle, or was, of managerial jobs. Amorim needs a better CV before getting the chance.

Hopefully this means that he has developed even more. Or that Man Utd have dropped down a level!

You want to have a guess to his united line up @Sly ?
Make you transfer muppet for us while we nick your manager!

the problem with portuguese football things is that they’re basically just tanned dutch. pretty football but usually little end substance when it matters.

Sounds like this is pretty much done. I like Amorim. I hope this works out.

That’s incorrect. Firstly we won’t be moving away from wingers. 3-4-3 is a striker with 2 wingers. He isn’t married to the 3-4-3 system. So his system doesn’t equate to not playing with wingers.

West Ham couldn’t afford him. Same with Liverpool. It looks like he had a clause for certain clubs to get him for €10m. The rest of Europe needs to cough up €20m.

And honestly so what if we move away from 4-3-3? Isn’t winning more important? Isn’t playing attacking football more important? Why does it matter whether he play wingers or out?

Sounds like we might be unveiling him next weekend at this rate. Hopefully we can smash Chelsea as a welcome party.

Sporting paid Braga 10m euros for him where he'd been for a couple of months, winning 10 of 11 in the league. He was 35 at the time. He came to a Sporting side that hadn't won anything of note and has already won them two league titles.

Is there a place for Bruno in his favoured tactical setup? I can't see it myself.

Hojlund is a dud, he can’t stay fit.
Ofcourse there's plenty he can improve on but he's not a dud, he's shown flashes of what he's capable of. Remains to be to seen if he can stay fit for prolonged period of time without it impacting his game.

Providing Hojlund stays fit, if Amorim can't improve him then what's his value as a coach? It's like ETH all over again. We are making this change so that we can see better performances from our existing players too.

3 hours ago this guy was saying Frank was favourite for the job
Right now any story about Uniteds new manager will get clicks. If Ornstein isn't reporting it, take it with a pinch of salt. Most of these journos don't know what's going on. Luckhurst was saying Amorim wants to wait for City earlier, talksport was saying Nagelsmann is interested and he's our number 1 target and this Jamie Jackson guy was saying Frank.

Ornstein was the first one to give this one teeth tbf

Hojlund looks a good player as much as Shaw looks a good player. When they can stay fit and can get into form they’re great. So far the minute he gets any form he gets injured. There was talk of a back injury when we signed him. Why gamble £70m on an unproven player if there is even the slightest risk of a consistent injury.

Hey, I'm no expert on the guy. Just doesn't feel like a good fit to me. And he publically apologized after the whole West Ham debacle. Not a great look in my opinion.

As far as I can tell, his system is built with wingbacks in mind, so that means no traditional wingers? I don't think anyone was talking about playing 4-3-3 necessarily, and I think we could be playing attacking football with appoiting Amorim in particular.

And personally I just really like football with an emphasis on wing play, and it's been the back bone of a number of United squads throughout our history. That does matter to me.

I don't follow him but why do people want this guy?
The only logical reason I can think of... he is better than Southgate?

Clearly he is no Nagelsman. Why should we be excited about a Sporting's manager who has never achieved anything at the top level?

Going to be interesting to see how we play under him.
3-5-2?
Onana
De Ligt - Yoro - Martnez
Mazroui -----------------------Dalot
Ugarte - Mainoo
Bruno
Hojlund Garnacho

Can't wait to end another managerial career

And where has that wing system play left us since 2013? By that logic we played 4-4-2 in our history. Even Fergie switched to a 4-2-3-1 before the end of his tenure? Wasn’t that going away from the history of this club?

Amorim the dream
that is what we are
gonna win the league
how can we be wrong?

Yes but he did win us his second league, beat Spurs in the CL and eliminated Arsenal in the EL. There was an evolution. I think that he needed to finish this season with us, being the first manager in 70 years to win us two leagues in a row and see how far he could take us in this new CL format. But I understand that you can't say No to a club of United's stature. I'd prefer him to stay but will understand if he goes.

I’m glad we have a good working relationship with you guys!

Also why exactly did the Pool move break down? His release clause?

he decided that he couldn’t spend the rest of his days knowing that he was a little bitch.

Literally can't wait to see what happens now, we've waiting long enough now let's hope this has been on the cards and we've done our homework correctly.

For me his first challenge is finish as high as possible in the league and win that Europa league as we clearly have the strongest squad in the competition.

My word, I’ve just seen that Amorim’s Sporting have won 38 of their last 43 league games, scoring 126 goals in the process. He’s also the one responsible for turning Gyokeres, who is by all accounts of a very similar profile to Højlund, into a beast. Oh, and City very clearly wanted him to replace Pep.

I’m going to be honest and say that I’ve not watched a single Sporting game since they beat Arsenal in the EL (I will definitely watch them play City if he’s not with us by then though), but all the signs indicate a good appointment.

Gutted for Erik, but if we were to get Amorim or Nagelsmann over the line, it’s exciting times for us.

Apparently Liverpool agreed a fee for him but then Sporting decided they wanted a higher fee so Liverpool walked away and got Slot instead
