Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

I insist that Amorim will probably use Maguire. I mean Amorim turned Liverpool flop Sebastian Coates into freaking Baresi and he's slower than Maguire.

Tbf if he plays 3 CBs then I’d be more surprised if Maguire doesn’t get game time this season given Yoro is just a kid and not fit yet.

If it's Amorim I hope he is given good support. I know very little about him, but no matter how good he is, it will take much more than a new coach to get the club to where we want to be again. Hope it's a start.

I have seen Coates play like a QB. He has a sweet long ball.

Maguire cant pass wind.
Yeah he did. He does have passing over Maguire but I think Amorim can make him work. Nevertheless our best passing CB by far is Inácio.

Any Portuguese fans here able to give insights on Amorim’s in game management?

I feel like that was one of EtH’s biggest weaknesses

Still an unknown to me since I never took his name seriously enough to care. So, I'm neither here nor there. I hope he has no illusions about what he is stepping into and doesn't turn into another Ten Hag. If he accepts. I suppose it would be good work by INEOS prying him away from Sporting midseason.

Seems like my suspicions about him and City were way off.

I wonder if we made contact with him around the time we were talking to other managers and told him to wait it out. Seems unlikely now I write it down

I would be comfortable with our rbs/wbs, but our left side is more questionable for sure. Maybe young Amass can grow into the role seeing as our season is shit anyway. Perhaps Garnacho do a trick there as well, his engine is good enough - but defensively its worse. Shaw will be back eventually.... right? Sometime?
I've given up ever expecting Shaw to be a mainstay in any side at this point. Basically look at any fit run of games from him as a bonus

It would be Hojlund/emergency xmas CF signing with either Garnacho or Rashford wouldn't you think?
I think it would depend on how he wants the forwards to play in certain games? If you're playing 3-5-2 then you haven't really got the width up the field because 2 of the 5 in the middle are wing backs, so you might want your forwards to drift out wide and pull the defenders with them to create space in the middle, which is perfect for wide forwards like Rashford and Garnacho. Depends on what he decides to do though, I'm guessing he'll most likely want to get these lads through on goal a lot more than Ten Hag did.

Another gamble but no one says this can not work. He can be EtH 2.0 or the next big thing. The problem is we can make it to top 4 but f you want to dominate EPL or CL you need the best players like Mbappe or Lamine Yamal. Do we have at least one player on that level?

Exactly what we need. Our CB's aren't good enough to play in a 2
I prefer to see us (Sporting) play with 3 in the back. I didn't like when we played 2 in the back. You need the right personnel though.

Never been a big fan of 3 at the back but I think such a significant change is what we need to shake off the terrible tactics Ten Hag has ingrained in the players.

de Ligt is pretty aggressive and pushes up a fair bit, Yoro falls off and sweeps behind more. I can see the logic in it, but maybe we'll find out.
From what I’ve seen in tactical videos, it’s the CB in the middle that pushes in midfield in Amorim’s system, so de Ligt should play in the middle by this logic.

You weren't the only one. I was really convinced too and I follow Amorim and Sporting daily.

Except maguire is almost on his way out here contract wise and Coates succeeding in Portugal isn't remotely similar to Maguire helming a backline in the PL. If anything we'll buy another CB

Let's start with maybe being a consistent Champions league side first eh?

How would you set up an Amorim 3-4-3?

Onana
Yoro De Ligt Martinez
Dalot Mainoo Ugarte Antony
Bruno Hojlund Garnacho

Takes a lot courage to take over an underperforming team fom a Dutch coach who hand picked a lot of these players from the Eredivisie in the middle of the season

I'd say that bodes well, he obviously needs himself.

I like a back 3 and I think United need it to be honest. Our defenders aren't physical enough or good enough in the 1v1's to play 2 at the back, we need the cover.

How does the wing back situation work at Sporting? How do you guys play it out?

We will see. I think Amorim will give him a chance. Just stay away from Inácio though.

It's hit and miss.
But he will ALWAYS take full responsability for the misses. He will own his mistakes.
He can be stubborn at times and keep playing underperforming players that only he believes in, to the despair of the fans. I'd say that's his biggest weakness. It's up to the management to save him from himself (by selling said players).

He is also great at press conferences. He actually speaks openly about football and his choices (sometimes too openly) and doesn't waste too much time on bullshit or stupid mind games. He doesn't waste too much time talking about referring too (which is very rare here in Portugal).
