Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Don't be so sure.
We didn't have Gyökeres for the first 3 years, and while we didn't score as many goals as we did last season, we were still decent in attack.
When we had Tiago Tomás or Paulinho playing in that position, our style was a bit different, our offensive 3 switched around, they also pressed more.

Basically, don't look at Gyökeres as the type of player Amorim wants to be his striker. He won't have a problem making adjustments if different players give him what he wants.

He adressed that on his last press conference.
His name doesn't have an accent.
It started when he was playing in Qatar, and he didn't really want to correct them at that time. It kind of stuck since then.

Our reality is different. Despite being a pretty big club, Sporting still has to sell players in order to grow and keep a positive cash-flow. Amorim knew that, which is why one of his focuses was precisely to develop young players, especially academy players, to sell them.
And while United won't have to worry about that, I suspect Amorim will still look at the academy as a way to improve the club identity, but also to bolster his squad without having to buy tons of players per position.
I don't expect him to go on the market for anything other than starting players.
Do you think Amorim will implement his 343 from day one, or will it be more gradual?

A first impression may mean little but it can be the start of everything. Defending his players, playing without fear and maintaining a clear identity. Amorim has a clear vision. But with Rashford, Shaw and Maguire still in the mix I find myself torn between doubts and fears. Despite, I still have hope.

Absolutely no idea why Maguire is being brought up.

I liked Ten Hag and would stand up and clap him if he was back at Old Trafford…… However, he was a nerd and he had no charisma. The Manchester United manager needs character and charisma. In that interview Amorim has it.

Probably not. The club made Rashford the face of the brand practically before he'd achieved a thing. He's threatened to leave when playing shit, tried to fight with fans, plays atrociously whilst earning the most money. And yet he's still here. The only coach we've had so far who seemingly had him sussed was Rangnick, and he was booted into touch and nobody wanted to hear his assessment of the players.

Shaw has been injured probably more than he's been fit at this stage, and yet we've never really gone out and signed a player who could replace him. Instead we sign loan players to tide us over for another 6 months, or a cheap signing from Eredivisie.

I honestly do believe there's some level of protection, or at least resistance, to moving them on or replacing them.
When was this?

Or the other two. If he doesn't like these players the club aren't going to impose them on him. It's needless drama.

I’m glad he’s been allowed to bring over the team he wants and not forcing ex-players turned coaches on him. While at first it does seem nice and wholesome, it probably presents a risk of undermining in the future especially if that ex-player was part of a really good team that was successful, and the team is in a slump.

And that said ex-player would be quietly gunning for the role in the future, because I think clubs still have that ‘Guardiola/Barcelona possibility’ mentality in their heads.

Really hope it goes well for him. He has so much more charisma than ETH which I do feel is important at a big club. Hopefully the club have finally got a managerial appointment right

Very young staff he has. Wonder how that goes down with some of the players who complained about McKenna for instance... (if those players are still there).

They didn’t really complain about his age more he was ‘school masterly’ in his approach

I think it'll be a 343 from the start so that players start to get used to their roles on the pitch.
There might be tweaks here and there, maybe a 3241 with the two center midfielders closer to the defensive line, or a 3421, but the essence should be the 343.
It almost certainly won't be what he envisions for them, but it makes little sense to use a different setup than the one he plans on using in the future.

Maybe we do need young coaches to understand these young players (millionaires) better old school didn’t work
I remember hearing Evra's interview with Rio and he was saying how if modern players had to deal with Fergie, he would end up in jail . He also mentioned that's one of the main reasons mourinho's style of management doesn't work in the modern game with how players are these days.

I agree, to an extent. It's not just the tactics and approach to football that have changed to be successful. It's also the style of management.

I really, really like the part in the interview where he suggested that every new player should be taken on a tour across the museum, to better understand the club he is playing for, similar to what was done with Evra when he first joined. To create a better connection between player and a club. He seems to be hitting all the right notes in that interview, can't wait to see how everything will look like on the pitch.
Agree 100%. I was at a talk given by David Gill, when he said that his two favourite signings were Evra and Vidic, as they both took the trouble to learn and embrace everything about the club. Plus, they gave great service and didn't cost the club a fortune.

He couldn't have been more clear in his induction interview. His way from the get go and if they don't get it, it's on him.
He thinks they've all got the ability to understand and get it straight away and I respect him for it.

Very excited to have someone with clear plans and I don't think getting chinned by Brentford will deter him.

I am sure they understand but can they execute? Do we have 3 fit CBs? Who will play wing back? Do we have 2 CMs who can run and press?

Martínez, de Ligt, Lindelof… Yoro close/in training.

Dalot and Maz maybe to start, Shaw in training.

We have two CMs and the press will start from the front. Ugarte and Cas both steadily improving… ones just scored his debut Intl game, one had a good rest and in better shape this season.

Saul Goodman.

This makes a ton of sense to me. Thanks for the post.

I think if we get Davies, Shaw would play LCB.

"Amorim’s visa sorted early in week" - does that mean it's already been sorted early last week, or that it's to be sorted early next week?

Read's like the former, but there haven't been any reports that it's all been sorted days ago and that he can officially start work have there?

Maybe. Personally I think Martínez is better suited. Better long passer (for me) and doesn’t switch off like Shaw occasionally does.

Really depends on what Shaw is as a player at this point. If he gets back to 22/23 levels, then he's far better defending wide areas and big spaces than Martinez which would be a factor. But at this point I'm basically not even considering Shaw part of the squad to rely upon.
