Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Ill suited? why?

Onana, Yoro, Maguire, De Light, Licha, Shaw, Maz, Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Bruno, Mount, Rashford, Garnacho, Amad, Hojlund have a place in his system. Maybe some positions have more options while the other need better options. But still... he can work with it. He isnt exactly Van Gaal inheriting players after David Moyes.
Exactly, I think the squad is ideal for Amorim. Sure we all know that the strikers aren't lethal enough and we probably need 1 more CB but I don't think we're in a bad place. Maybe another cm but there's enough quality in the youth team to fill that position imo.

I feel its far from ideal, not just for Amorim but any coach. It simply lacks top players who could make difference in matches consistently. A club of our stature needs atleast 2 top quality attacking players but we have Bruno and Rashford who haven't been at that level for a long time now.

The squad is ill-suited to his needs and it will be a tough slog at first, some fans need to accept that. I don't expect to see anything transformative until the squad is overhauled.
I agree. But deserved victories at CP and WH would have us in top 4 already.

United match going fans don't deserve Pogba, let them keep signing Bruno's name as he spams nearly half of his passes into row z. The fact Pogba never had his own song is all you need to know about the environment he got here.

I hope he finds a club that appreciates him and he can get back to his best, which is absolute genius.

I can scarcely believe anyone would want him back for any reason whatsoever, and then you have this... That's certainly a take, kudos for saying it, even if I find it unfathomable.

What nonsense are you going on about. He doesn’t deserve us. He’s toxic. Bruno is miles above Pogba and the stats show that.

Agreed, and ‘genius’ is a helluva stretch. We never saw anything even close to genius in his time back here.
The lad should just retire, enjoy his millions and WC medal and be a socials celeb.
He could get on the reality tv circuit for a bit of pocket money

I agree. We do have a lot of short-term and long-term needs, but Amorim can definitely work with the squad, and it has a lot of quality players that have severely underperformed ever since ETH's second season started...or you could argue since the EFL final in 2023. A lot of players signed in the summer of 2023, or after that, haven't even been able to showcase their best versions of themselves either, thanks to ten Hag.

We obviously need new additions, though.

We will need great CB depth and new players there who are quick, with good athleticism, so that they're able to eat up big spaces quickly. That's inevitable and we'll buy a good number of CBs in the upcoming years IMO, especially with Maguire, Evans and Lindelöf probably all on their way out. We'll also need to buy wing-backs IMO. We'll also need to strengthen the central midfield. And then the squad will naturally evolve, and we'll see what we need, where we are set, etc. Every club almost always needs new players, so our squad won't ever be "set", but that's natural.

However, the current squad is decent and a good manager will easily fight for top 4 with this group of players.

He prefers fast and left footed players, he got 9 left footed players in current Lisbon team.

He likes defnders with speed and plays wingers as wing backs with more passge through middle rather crosses from far side of the pitch.

He once said he likes players like Xabi Alonso/Busquets over someone like Casemiro .

Considering all this, what could be his starting XI with this current team when everyone is fully fit?

So, is this the initial set up we're likely to see from Ruben against Ipswich?

GK. Onana

CB. Lindelof
CB. De Ligt
CB. Martinez

RWB. Mazzouri
LWB. Dalot

CM. Ugarte
CM. Casemiro

AM. Amad
AM. Bruno

ST. Rashford

Lindelof got injured while playing for Sweden. I think he may start Hojlund instead of Rashford especially in his first game.

I see.
Be interesting nonetheless. He said we'll get a idea of he set up straight away.

Frankly, let's not get ahead of ourselves with fancy new formations given how well that's worked out with the previous managers. I wake up in the middle of the night screaming sometimes thinking of that 4-2-2-2 system of Rangnick's. If any, I don't think it's going to be vastly different to what we've been playing all along. Maybe Casemiro pushed a bit back as a makeshift 3rd CB, Bruno pushed a little deeper and Amad/Garnacho pushed a little central. Let's see.

Yes, if by international duty you mean swanning around NYC looking like a pillock.

I don’t think I’d have given the players time off this time round if I was the club.
You'd think players not on international duty would want to be around the club with the new manager here.

I am one of those that really love ETH and wanted him to succeed. I understand why he was sacked and I am really excited with Amorin. Really excited because he is the guy I feel we need. Someone the players will just feel free playing for.

It would definitely be vastly different that the setup under ETH (unless you meant post ETH under Rudd). I am sure the midfield will be beefed up and less punts forward and more patient play.

Do we have midfielders who can slow the game down? I think all our midfielders aside Ericksen of course don't have that gift. That was why ETH kept playing Ericksen last few games to bring control. Unfortunately for him, it made us weaker

Please allow Pogba to train with the club. If he proves he still has the ability let him support Mainoo as CM.

Ugarte Mainoo
Casemiro Pogba

Are you joking or?

I've started to notice this lately. Some of the posts from these 'newbies' is real poor. Has the standards from moving from the newbie forum to the main forum been lowered or something? More often than not the stupidest post on the page is from a 'newbie'.

90% sure we won't use full backs at both wings ever.. Because on Amorims system the wing players aren't full backs, more wingers or wide players. So at least one of them is like Garnacho or some other winger.

I am honestly gonna ask that do some of you don't follow football outside of United or what's the plan here? Because it's been discussed everywhere how 3-4-3 ain't 5 at the back any cost ever. And some still insist that we will play with back 5 now.

Lindelof injured now. He'll have two fit CBs for Ipswich. I'm thinking he might try using Ugarte as a half-back at this point.

Keep hearing ''do we have defenders that can do this or midfielders that can do that''. We don't know that do we? They've not been asked to play that way. We need to stop making sweeping assumptions, the point of a coach is to train players to play the way he wants them too and I feel a lot of fans will be pleasantly surprised to see improvement in certain players to further exemplify how badly we were coached under EtH.

Oh dear just heard this news. So Evans and De Ligt the only fully fit cbs with injuries to Martinez, Yoro, Maguire and now Lindelov.

Would he not opt for Casemiro at CB with Ugarte and Mainoo (if fit) in front? Or just stick with 4 at back till injuries get better (hopefully soon)

For God’s sake. Why is Martínez injured again?

Nice condescending post, but if I remember correctly he used WBs for Sporting when he took over. Wasn't until they clicked with his system that he used wingers.

I hope Rashford takes the opportunity of a new manager seriously

We need him back to his best
