We know he didnt want to join until the end of the season.
I think by coming in January, he was content (and maybe given permission) to treat this season as a write-off of sorts and just force his tactics into the players here and let them audition.
Anyone who sank would be dumped at the end of the season (either sold or relegated to squad depth) and anyone who swam would be rewarded and kept on.
However, I don't think anyone at the club - either Amorim or those hiring him - expected the results to be this bad. I'm sure they didn't expect consistency but I assume they would have expected to pick up more points than this. The "write-off" they expected or permissions was more likely scrapping it out in the range of 6th - 12th in the league, and I imagine they are all now very spooked by being in the relegation discussion (even if it does seem unrealistic, but so did Leicester winning the league until the results just kept coming).
In my opinion, it is very, very worrying that we are in a "shít has hit the fan" situation and Amorim does not appear to have a plan B.
It's also worrying that apart from Diallo, nobody has "swam" during this audition. Most appear to have sank. The investment needed to make Amorim's approach work just isn't possible.
