Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Issue is I thought we might be able to salvage the season with the cups but all hope is gone with the injury news this week. I guess we have to just finish 16th and enjoy a blissful Summer of no football, knowing it surely can never get any worse.

I'm sorry, but refusing to use the subs like that is just cowardly. It's a 1-0 game, and our players are absolutely knackered all over the pitch. Yeah, Spurs might get another, so what? That’s football. Isn’t the whole point of developing young players actually playing them? If they’re the only ones on the bench, you put them in. Simple as that. Otherwise, what the hell are we even doing? I don't like it.

I just don't see what INEOS were doing bringing in Amorim with the circumstances the club was under and at a time when he didn't have a pre season or window to rectify the lack of balance in the squad.

As stated before in the summer everyone was moaning about the lack of options in the managerial market, Amorim is by no chance a world class manager but a promising coach, the step up from Sporting to United under the current clubs circumstances could be a step too big for him.

I have no idea why they didn't pursue Tuchel amidst the England interest. He's the sort of manager who can proverbially squeeze water out of a stone, I think Amorim needs very specific conditions to thrive and the handicapped element of INEOS leadership will hamper his potential as a coach being at United.

Have no opinion of Amorim as a person but he seems a likable fella.

As a manager for us he is so poor. This tactic gets dominated almost every game. The midfield leaves even more gaps than under Ten Hag, its almost comical how easy it is to play through this tactic. Stick 2 players wide, keep 1 striker occupying the 3 CBs, 2 players either side of the CMs and you will dominate this formation. Its starting to happen in almost every match, the flaws are glaringly obvious. Additionally, it is clear the tactic is a negative tactic. He has a free shot to the end of the season. Can play a winger at fullback, or push the CBs into midfield but he doesn't because the nature of the tactic is to be negative.

And these players, whilst not ideal are not as poor as this formation is making them look. If the players need to take responsibility then so does the manager. We are not getting rid of these players, a few may go and we may get a few in but PSR means the majority of these players will be here. If this is all he can muster with them then he is the wrong man. He is showing us absolutely nothing for us to have any faith in him.

Most fans are still with Amorim from what I can tell. I can see Ineos getting itchy trigger fingers though if we’re 6 above the drop zone with 5 to play though.

The sad thing is, the only reason INEOS won't sack him is because of how much it will cost... but then that means they won't back him properly.

We are just a mess. INEOS saved the Glazers, without them the leeches would have been forced to sell in full. But INEOS can't afford or don't have the desire to pump money in (to the extent they can) to the club either.

So now we are back where we were. Owners who want to make a giant on life support self sufficient, without investing their own money and building for a dividend.

He must not be familiar with our history of youth players, Fergie threw on Macheda in a far more important game and won us the title, would it have hurt to give Chido 20
“Youth. Courage. Success” is written on the steps at Carrington! Will need to be replaced with the words Cowardice and Failure!

Should have stuck with Ruud till the summer then brought Amorim in. Unless we completely overhaul the squad he has no chance.

Batten down the hatches lads, this is going to get rough.

Absolutely shocking first half.

Not much improvement in the second, relying on the 11 that started to equalise and win a game was never going to happen. Should have made changes but decided not to. Yes, the bench was entirely youth players, and I can see the need to protect them but winning games is the priority here.

Don't want him out but I am starting to feel worried for him.

A couple of things today:

First is not making a sub, while it might seem justifiable given the inexperience on the bench I just felt it came across as stubborn and a bit cowardly, it's not like the players on the pitch were pulling up trees and looking like scoring at any minute and taking into account our current league form it felt like a somewhat free hit to put at least one or two young lads on just to mix things up and if we still lost at least you have mitigating circumstances and you tried something, instead we just trudged along with the same eleven and nothing changed.

Second is the fact the last two games have been preceded by a full week of training but I don't think we've seen any sign of that playing out in those two games, one of the big hurdles Ruben has had coming in mid season is the lack of time on the training field and I while I wasn't expecting him to fix everything in the last 2 weeks, I was at least hoping to see some evidence of new ideas worked on in that time which would then give me confidence that given time he will eventually get the team pulling in the same direction.

Neither of these things are ultimately huge deals but at this point I'm just looking for small positives to hang on to and if either of those things had happened it would've given me a silver lining to the dark cloud hanging over the club at the moment.

Kinda disappointed that he didn't risk more in the 80th minute at least. Not blaming him entirely because we were creating chances (due to spurs being equally bad), but I was hoping for Casemiro and Hojlund to be subbed off.

He had nothing to lose making subs with ten or fifteen minutes to go. We were already losing, we had players dead out there and we didn't have any momentum at the time.

Make the subs, bring in fresh players who will run and fight at least.
It's disappointing
The sub he did make was probably worse than not making a sub at all
We were the better team and should have been scoring. There was something to lose.

No he isn't. He told those cnuts he didn't want to come until summer, yet they forced him. He is here to stay for another couple of seasons.

I'm afraid he is, the only reason they would have demanded he join now (when we had a decent interim manager in place) was to make sure Amorim could show he was the right manager for the job.

The club are in a precarious financial situation and they are not going to sanction even moderate spending if the manager has already lost the existing players after 3 months. If we spend £200m on players and his system doesn't work out, it will set us back another 5 years.

He talks a good game, and I like him for that, but tactically and motivationally he's been very poor so far. That is just a fact, and yes I know there are many mitigating factors in Amorim's favour.

I really hope I'm wrong, but Ratcliffe is setting the tone here and he isn't a patient man.

Club is toxic and supporters are a big part of the problem now, they don't see that their constant negative noise and negativity has an effect. Some of you should feck off and support City.
If anything the fanbase has been too patient and forgiving, look at Real or Barca if you want toxic fans. We’ve dropped standards every season since Fergie retired, no other major club would tolerate half of what Utd fans have put up with.

Thats a poor explanation, and goes against what many big managers do when they have to change the game. They put faith in their talent to come on and make a difference. Amorim didn't show much bravery today, and the fact that we still look like a back 5 even after giving him a LWB and seeing a more natural option at RWB is worrying. He says wel see a plan immediately and I don't quite see it.
What big managers have thrown on teenagers that have never played a senior game?

I understand the frustration and I'm frustrated myself as well. I just don't think the solution is throwing on the kids.

Edit: of course we look like a back 5, that's the formation that we play. I don't get that point you've made.

I think it's a moot point. There is no "squad overhaul" to be had due to the lack of money. We're up shit creek without a paddle

I mean I feel for him, our players constantly make wrong decisions, whatever tactics and instructions he provides won't make up for all those wrong decisions and don't start on me on Garna basically missing a sitter or Zirkzee leaving the ball in to Bruno behind him or Bruno's constant rash passes, there is nothing Amorim can do about all that.

But, he should've subbed in few of the youngesters after the 75 mins mark, we would've lost anyway but it would've been fun to see some youth player given a run.

We talk big about players being poor but when an opportunity arises to try the youth if for the sake of providing options and managing tiring players a bit, this manager doesn't even risk it. He's not it.

Great, and still we weren't. Now we are. We sacked a terrible manager and actually managed to replace him with a worse one
No, we sacked a manager that dug us into this mess with his woeful eye for a player. Fully deserved because he ruined us.

He should be sacked for playing a system that created so many chances for our attackers (2 of which he didn't bring in himself even).

It wasn't a bad performance today considering all the injuries .. If we had someone more accomplished than Hojlund at 9 and a specialist 10 instead of Garnacho we'd have walked this game.

Ince? Beckham? Stam? None of these where out clubbing in Belfast missing flights home etc. None of these players went out onto the pitch and not run for the team.

So it's not bollox at all
All 3 were challenging his authority, Sancho is a better comparison with them. With Rashford he either would have met the levels or been moved on like many a player...... No crazy expectations, no crazy wage packet, no time spent waiting to see if it'll fix itself....

You rattled quite a few people on here, good, call out the clown fiesta.

Zirkzee played quite well, Dorgu looked rough but promising, despite being largely ignored by his teammates. Dalot and Bruno were difficult to watch. I think we'll see the pressure really ramp up on Amorim now, he's got an incredibly difficult set of circumstances, but he isn't making the job any easier for himself or his players.

Not been a fan of Amorim but today isn't on him. For a change, we did create some chances. Let's hope we get some players back soon.

Still think this 5221 isn't going go work and he won't last the season if he persists with it.
He could easily switch this to a 352 system and he should have done this from the get go, Zirkzee/Rashford/Hojlund combination as a front two might have worked, Garnaucho should be used as wide wing back left or right and then start with a 3 man midfield of Collyer/Ugarte Mainoo/Bruno.

Play Collyer/Ugarte as double pivot with Mainoo at home and Bruno/Eriksen as the third creative Midfielder.

He is effective getting far poorer results than ETH over the same period of games managed. His team simply can’t score and they concede more goals than any United team in the last dreadful 12 years.

I still want to keep him, he has the personality to pull the club out of the mud and we must give him every opportunity to succeed but he also has to start learning on the job and fast.

The biggest issue without doubt is the formation and his belief of not changing it at any cost
No it's not. We created more than enough chanses today to get at least one point if not all 3. It's the players that are letting us down every single week. Garnacho can't score, Bruno can't pass, Casemiro can't run, Dalot is unable to do anything productive, Onana costing us goals almost every week, Hojlund unable to control even the easiest of balls etc...

To be fair this is a pretty toxic and divisive post.

Yeah I think it's fecking weird the fascination on here to always just play the kids. It worked in 1992 as a bit of luck but Christ no other club does it.

We still lost on xG against a disastrous Spurs team

Garnacho could have had an hat trick today. The quality of our players is the issue. Not the formation.

Do you see anything whatsoever pointing towards that brighter future? It's blind hope
It reminds me of Sporting before we sacked Amorim's replacement. I'm all for giving time to managers but this is painful to watch. Seriously starting to believe that Amorim doesn't have what it takes. I mean I know United is in complete disarray, shambles of a club from top to bottom but I can't see a single good thing or any evolution in the team. I had this expectation that he would steady the ship and specific players would improve under his tutelage but it's the complete opposite. I expected players like Fernandes and Garnacho to flourish, Hojlund to evolve but they are playing worse than during Ten Hag stint. His lack of flexibility and in game cluelessness is worrisome.
