Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

It's hard to think of a United manager coming in that has struggled this much with the Premier League.
He's been pretty tragic in terms of forming any kind of identity. I've would thought a coach at an Elite level will make some sort of an impression by now

Needs to stop with Dalot and Mazraoui as wing-backs. One or the other, with a more attacking player on the other side. Hopefully this is what Dorgu will bring for us?

I like the guy but the formation is awful.

He’s taken a team that can’t score goals, taken out an attacker for a defender, leaving us with a team that scores even less and aren’t even benefiting from the extra defender as we can’t keep clean sheets either.

I truly hope he proves me wrong, but I just can’t see this formation being a long term success.
Do you like him because he’s handsome and charismatic or is there any reason for blindly liking the guy? He’s been incredibly stubborn and naive since his arrival. gets outclassed by managers in the PL week in week out. Refuses to change his ways even when it’s clearly not working. Everyone and their cat knows Maz should never ever be RWB but he persists with the player just because.

Great at man management but he is way too defensive in his tactics.

He hardly starts 3 forwards / 4 wingback/forwards.

The players are shit but they are even made to look worse by the overly defensive tactics.

Needs to find solutions soon. I mean, how long is this going to go on for? And we’re seemingly buying players for this system.

He’ll need to win the FA Cup or Europa at this point. Can’t spend all season getting battered in the league without repercussions, mitigating circumstances or not

Today is definitely on Amorim as we’re playing at home and we’re playing with a back 5 plus Ugarte shielding the defence so effectively a back 6 whilst also playing without a striker and to top it off it now looks like Martinez will be out for a while too.

Struggling badly.

The question is do you even entrust him with a big summer transfer spending with this kind of football on display.

Even at home we look dire.

Is he that good at man management? He said they were the worst team in history, said Casemiro can't run, said the goalkeeping coach would be better than Rashford in the squad and Mainoo can't defend to the media pretty much. Even if some of those things are true, can't be that great for morale.

10 outfield players. 5 defenders. One defensive midfielder.

You wonder why we struggle to create or score anything.

I thought he was supposed to be a positive coach, who played on the front foot. Even Jose wouldn’t use that many defensive players.

He takes a team that struggles to score goals and his solution is to play with more defenders.

Very average coach for sure. But he speaks well so he’s spellbound most of our fanbase.

I bet if we’re hired Southgate or Potter and we were this bad they wouldn’t be accorded the same level of grace or support as the Amorim acolytes seem to do.

But oh well…

How are we supposed to score goals if we wait for the opposition to get back in their defensive structure before every attack? I think it's an awful way of playing.

Are we all just going to pretend that he hasn’t been absolutely dreadful so far?

I think that's fair, it's a very nuanced situation where some elements aren't Amorims entire fault then some where he's largely accountable.

You can see it in his face on the touchline he didn't anticipate things to be this bad, doesn't matter about mentioning a storm I think he's exceeded his own expectations for the struggles this team will face.

The home form is absolutely shocking.

He has apart from a couple of games against the big teams.

The team looks lost, his 5-2-3 isn't working and it doesn't seem he has anything more that one idea.

We’re going to keep losing a lot of games until he’s had windows to get rid of this shite and get players in who fit his system. Some of you make out like we should’ve gone for someone who gets the best out of this squad as though it’s brilliant, it’s ridiculous. We’ve brought in a manager with an actual system and it’s going to take a lot of time for it to work, most of these shit are going to have to go.

That was the prevailing opinion on here when we got him but people just can’t take the short term pain. Maybe we should’ve stuck with Ruud and had Rashford and some 35 year old loan signing bagging so we could finish 6th? Even though we’d be going nowhere long term.

We’ve been playing like this for a long time, these players just aren’t up to it and physically we are probably the worst team in the league.
Amorim may well not be up to the demands of this job but it’s not going to be a quick turnaround with or without him.

He’s left it too late make changes. Mainoo as the striker wasn’t working and only after we go 1-0 down, and the 70th min, does he change it.

This squad isn’t catered to his system and it shows most weeks. I guess he has this excuse until the summer. We really need to see some improvement early next season otherwise I’d want him gone. Stand by we would have been much better off with a manager that plays 4-3-3.

We're onto "acolytes" already

He's balancing the side as best he's able with what's available.

He wants attacking wingbacks, one of which is a converted winger, but we don't have many options as Amad has been needed infield and noone else can do that role other than fullbacks.

It's not rocket science, but I guess being mad we're losing gets people not thinking with their brains n shit

He gets a free pass this season from me. But there must be significant improvements by Christmas. If we're still playing like this then bin him off

Amorim is getting leeway because upon arriving he immediately promised we would struggle, telling us to expect "pain", "suffering", etc.

Added to that, we're now near-guaranteed some sort of mid-table finish this season, which means the stakes in the league are relatively low.

In other words Amorim successfuly (and wisely) reset expectations for the season. So I'm not sure why some posters are acting puzzled that he isn't now getting heavy criticism.
