Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I can’t work out why we started fairly positively with Mazraoui at centre back, Amad at wing back. At one point in a game he wasn’t playing a single centre back. We’ve now gone to five defenders and a defensive midfielder, and the results have got worse. most Amorim watchers were saying before he joined that this wouldn’t happen.

We’re a team that’s playing with only three attacking players, it’s no surprise we can’t attack.
Agreed. Yes, our attackers are poor but we're really not helping ourselves with the squad selections. The team already struggles with scoring goals and we've decided to play even less attackers.

It is so obvious that this is true. I don't know why people just post about transfers endlessly. We want to build a new stadium. The squad is not as bad as these performances, Amorim just needs to focus on that and improve performances, which to be fair I believe he is focussed on, just the fans that are not.
Exactly this, some of the posts on here and the transfer thread are an absolute joke when it comes to transfers. We are on the borderline with PSR and have to be really smart which will mean selling and buying.

Needs to stay and we need to push on. Get rid of the trash. Rashford and Bruno out the door. New start. The players can’t be allowed to do this again.

So much toxicity. If anything, this proves what a hopeless group of players this is. He's a good coach and will fix it, if given time.

I truly believe that there is no coach in the world, including prime versions of retired ones like SAF that would be able to come mid season and get this group of players to acceptable/top 4 level.

We should have given ETH even more time and more money for his transfers before bringing Amorim in, why make it easy for him? ETH should've used 700m extra on shit players and then we bring in Amorim.

fecking FA cup win and emotional supporters...

. He’s been appointed to get the best out of the players. There are international players and he needs to find how to get the best out of them. If he fecks off now, he will just admit he can’t.

Not when there's more going on than that. The whole club is rotten to the core and its swallowed up every player and manager to come in the last decade

This. He has a good idea of who needs to go(almost all of them).

There’s no long-term benefit of changing formation just to get a small uptick in results.

I get this argument…. But it’s not as black and white as that.

If there is a way we can finish higher, win more games… maybe even compete for a cup… all that will help the squad build in the summer.

Bedding in a system is all well and good, but it will be with the same old shite players if we come bottom half.

Genuinely confused as to what formation all the master tacticians suggested Ruben plays. I mean, both 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 were both so successful when ETH used them..

3-4-3 is not a problem in itself. Problem is if you field 2 defensive players on wingbacks as well. Add Ugarte who he is great in covering place but isn't so creative, Mainoo out of form completely and it just buried our attack today. To add to the issue Amad and Bruno are not so good playing with their back to goal. Has to play more adventurous starting with fielding one winger at WB. Which he did in first few games.

Our worst performance since he came (even without the red card). And tough few games to follow.

No. He could pick Amad and Antony. This formation is way too cautious when your wing-backs are not attackers. It’s very obvious for anyone watching us.
I can’t see Amad handling that role at all. Just sticking attacking players is not going to make us attack better. We need to the fix the basics first, pass better, don’t concede possession in silly ways. Have we once beaten the press and carried the ball forward once today?

Which coach do you suggest should work with this squad and achieve our expectations?
I don't have a preference. I'm not advocating for Amorim to be sacked, but I'm certainly not dying on his hill either.

There's always going to be another pretender.

Well, then you didn’t watch Ruben’s first games.

Again… nonsense comment.

ETH only played a traditional 4231 in his first season.

3rd

A cup

Another final

A European quarter.

The players are quite obviously not on board with this 3 at the back bollocks.

I think he’s a good coach, but baring a miracle he’s finished here as it’s easier to sack him rather than 10-15 players.

Player power rules unfortunately.

Barely played 433 under EtH? When actually?

Was more of a 4231 and 4141 if anything.

He needs to implement a total reset. Play the few players who try and the u-21s. Put everyone else on the transfer list. Otherwise this sh1t is never going to end.

Can he not phase in his style of play a bit? He's seeming very unpragmatic in his approach. We're a team everyone in the league is capable of beating.

I do really like Amorim and I think he is one of the best long term choices for the club, but I do wonder if brining in someone till the end of the season would have been a better idea, someone who played a similar formation to EtH who could motivate the team. At the minute it’s hard to tell who isn’t good enough / can’t be arsed or who is struggling to adjust to the new style which doesn’t make it easy when building the squad in the summer. Hopefully the manager can!

People in here need to wind their neck in. Clamoring for 4-2-3-1 as if we weren't sitting in 13th position when ETH got sacked. This squad is full of overpaid lazy arseholes who can't even do the basics. We have tried all types of managers, with wildly varying playstyles and they have all failed. Problem IS the squad, our underlyings had us in 13th last year. It is not a coincidence.

It also doesn't help he came here in the busiest period when there is game every 2-3 days. It is an incredibly tough ask.

People who are whining about a relegation battle need banning for their own stupidity, there are 3 extremely shit clubs in PL this season who are certains to go down. We will have a tough season and probably finish with the worst finish in PL era but we have to rip off the band aid. Sacking managers and hiring a quick fix won't solve our long term issues which is with the squad.

He's making silly mistakes.

He hasnt started Garnacho either as an attacker or as a wing back.

As selfish as he is, its better than absolutely nothing on the pitch.

Mazroui is probably a better LB than Dalot - why not switch them around?

Bruno looks better in midfield than as a wide CAM which is how Ten Hag used him in some games as well.

Amad could play as a wing back again if we bring Garnacho back or even Zirkzee partnering Hojlund now that Rashford has gone.

If we play 343 vs Newcastle with a midfield of Casemiro & Mainoo we’ll get absolutely shagged.

The lack of athleticism in the side is ridiculous.

If he gets sacked before the summer I reckon I’m generally done after 30 years of support

I’m a local from Manchester attended possibly 100 games but I’ve had enough of this bullshit the club is a circus. I never thought I’d see the day when I got tired of football
This. It's an absolute embarrassment. Two goals conceded straight from a corner in a week pretty much sums it up.

The problem here is incredibly obvious. The manager has a clear style and method of play. He also, unfortunately, has a set of players who are completely unable to play this system due to being terrible in the key areas required, such as intensity, stamina, physicality, intelligence, passing ability, crossing ability and so-on.

The solution isn't too hero getting rid of the manager until one turns up who can play a style that rubbish players can cope with.

We won't get a point from our next four games. He is in trouble.
Define 'in trouble'? Usually this phrase means there is a chance a manager will be sacked which is clearly untrue at this point.

Exactly, people expecting us to spunk money in January when it's cheaper to just get rid of Amorim. Plus Ineos would be right to question why he isn't getting more out of these players when Ruud did.

Nah. That time is over. If the new hierarchy are at all serious. We actually do need to bin 10 players. Maybe more. And we've got a good opportunity to do so next summer with contracts coming up and players entering their last year too. They'll back Amorim and rightly so. But it is on the new hierarchy to actually implement a coherent vision and make sure that recruitment isn't dependent on a single individual.

We had no ability to break down teams before he arrived. Which manager in the world fixes this with no time to train and no replacements?

And Ruben has had what, two months?? But yeah, let’s judge him because of the failings of ETH on squad building etc.
