Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

3 cbs and 2 full backs but we are even worse defensively than under ETHs no midfield system.

People are way too harsh on him. It is not as bad as results look like. With ETH, it was the opposite

Not sacking Ten Hag at the end of last season is one of the biggest mistakes this club has made post SAF. You can’t really blame Amorim beyond the wrong subs or selections here and there, none of these frauds were his signings and I’m sure he would bin them all off tomorrow if he could.

I thought that before but changed my mind in thinking this was the right move. The players can't do the usual play like prime Brazil in pre-season fooling him thinking they're actually decent. Here he sees their strengths and weaknesses early and can plan much better

That's obviously a plus. But only a plus if we actually do massive overhaul.

And the negatives can easily outweigh the positives if don't actually get some points and climb just a little bit in the league table.

3 goals from individual mistakes.
20+ shots but terrible finishing.

It's the Arteta situation at Arsenal. Great manager with shit squad. Get him decent squad and Amorim is challenging for the title.
Pretty much this.

I’d rather tough out this season and allow him to off load most of our dead weight squad and allow him to bring in his style players. Even in losses we look far better than anything ETH put out there
he should have to improve what we have before we spend money on his players i think. i think that should be a basic requirement. if we forced ten hag to do that it might have helped a lot.

Another campaign to forget.
Amorim is going to need alot of backing from the club, not just financially.

he created chances in the 'garbage time' where bournemouth don't particularly care if we have the ball as they have the game wrapped up.

Not necessarily true. We had a period of domination at 0-1 with Bruno having like three chances.

I think he has to start learning a few things quickly. He has to understand this is not Portuguese league and you can’t keep resting important players. What did he learn from
Starting Zhirkee or Malacia that we didn’t know already.

Why take off our only midfielder (Ugarte), if we had to take him off why not bring Casemiro in place of him, you can’t have Bruno and Maino as part of midfield two.

We had a lot of joy with playing Amad as wingback instead of two Full backs which kind of made it 5 at the back. Why not try Garnacho or Antony as wing backs.

Defence and conceding goals has got far worst under Amorim.
EPL, League Cup & Europa....

ETH - 13 games 16 goals conceded - 1.23 goals/game
Amorim - 9 games 17 conceded - 1.88 goals/game

Approx. 50% worst.

And that’s playing with 5 defenders. We should be looking for a new manager in the summer. Instead we will spend 200 mill on players that will be useless in any other system. Rinse and repeat.

I'd say he needs to rethink the midfield balance.

Bruno should be playing as an 8 and Mainoo should play further up.

This one is partially on Amorim, like 30%, we lost the game vs Forest due to problems that are very obvious which are defending free kicks and unforced errors, he didn't find a solution to problems that he is already aware of by now.

I still have faith in him, but he must correct the issues quickly and instill some mental fortitude in this mentally weak bunch

This thread is actually super helpful because anyone who's Amorim out at this point is clearly someone to be ignored.

It might be a good idea to exit the cup competitions and just concentrate on the league.

I don't think our squad is good enough to play so many games.

Agree with this. Amorim very early on said he wanted as much time as possible to coach these players and while he was talking about all the extra media obligations, the constant cycle of a game every three days doesn’t help either.

Horrible defeat nonetheless.

People leaving early and boos at the end - those were likely mostly directed at the players, but he’s going to have to start getting results or those things will become a recurrent thing, which isn’t going to be conducive of anything good

There's no "idea" about it, as if it's a planned outcome.
We'll get knocked out because we're currently sh!te.

We didn't even get a new manager bounce

The players had an absolute mare at both ends of the pitch. Today was a bad one for sure. Need to bounce back strongly.

Not much he can do about the woeful finishing from our whole team, but I don’t think he helped the flow of the game with his changes today. Hojlund was probably the only positive change.

We might be the only team capable of bringing a new manager and some how makes things worse. No point in comparing against ETH but we certainly have the team to beat Forest and Bournemouth at home. This deadwood excuse doesn't hold water and its on him.

Needs to learn quickly and get some results, Wolves won’t be easy, then Newcastle and the bloody scousers. Don’t fancy us to grind a result out in any of those.

I don't like the use of the term 'project' but Amorim has to be judged over a long period for it to be fair. Whether in the fickle world of football he will get that time remains to be seen but we need at least 5 years before we will start to see any success.

I am ambivalent about any manager being the right one to take us forward as there have been too many false dawns. I do feel we are better under Amorim. I can see a system emerging and there are times when we put real pressure on the opposition. However, our attacking options are limited, our collective decision making and overall intellect on the field is very low and we have a very slow back line.

It will take a great deal of time to ship off some of these players who are surplus to requirements whilst being able to afford replacements to fit in. I don't blame him for rotating to see who he can mould to perhaps be a decent squad player when he has his own players in the future. He does need to try to make use harder to beat however if he wants to avoid the media shitstorm that will ensue if we lose our next 3 games.

Would be interesting to see what the expected stats are across those periods, as that would have more predictive value.

I suspect they paint a more positive picture, though I could be wrong.

Wow talk about clueless

How is it clueless, we are playing awful football and being thrashed at home by teams we should be beating easilly while conceeding a lot more goals than we were under ETH.

We were much better in the games under Ruud than we have been in a few of the games under Ruben Amorim

Nope can't forgive people on here for being total knee jerk idiots
You obviously have to say it's very early days.

But the start hasn't been great has it? Forest and Bournemouth home defeats - with today being a hammering. Tottenham smashed us midweek.
Other defeats too.

Plus side, stealing a win at a hapless City side on a worst run in 30 years, and people seem to want to see some great improvement in our play which i'm not quite seeing, but maybe i'm not as expert as others.
