Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

We just have shit players. ETH's appointment is clearly one of the worst things we did. Most of the shite is from his purchases and it will take years to get this right.

It’s so incredibly daft how criticizing certain decisions becomes “turning on him”.
To be fair that's not what that poster is referring too, there was a crap load of posters in the match thread calling for him to go already

Okay coaching genius. The result is two losses and 7 goals conceded. Hope you're satisfied with that. Onward with the rotation. Needs a few more hammerings to know the best 11 players to pick.

So you’re just acknowledging your take is a two-game knee-jerk? Thanks, appreciate the confirmation.

Six games in the PL so far: 2 wins, 1 draw and three loses. 9 scored, 10 conceded.

Ruben needs find a way to win some games otherwise the pressure would mount and people will start asking questions. On top of that the performance today was pathetic. Nothing came right today. I know it's going to be a Topsy-turvy ride this season in terms of results but we cannot look second best at everything at a home fixture. We need to do better.

This thread is actually super helpful because anyone who's Amorim out at this point is clearly someone to be ignored.

I don't think anybody is Amorim out. Fans can offer criticism on some of his his selections today in a game we lost 0-3 at home, without writing him off, otherwise there's literally no point in having a discussion forum.

That's obviously a plus. But only a plus if we actually do massive overhaul.

And the negatives can easily outweigh the positives if don't actually get some points and climb just a little bit in the league table.

Agree it needs to work in practice but I think this gives us the best chance. Also it may not just be a case of us wanting to get rid of players, some could say they don't like this system/want to go elsewhere and help speed things along. We historically have been quite poor at buying and panic near the end of the window but have to again trust/hope they can plan early now and get deals done by pre season, not after

How is it clueless, we are playing awful football and being thrashed at home by teams we should be beating easilly while conceeding a lot more goals than we were under ETH.

We were much better in the games under Ruud than we have been in a few of the games under Ruben Amorim

If only we could play Leicester, every week. All our problems would go away!

Not much more he can do with this crop. Outperforming every team in the underlyings but lacking that cutting edge currently. No need to go overboard. Accept the season is over and it’ll feel easier.

Oh but the xg...the xg
we won on stats!

Playing every game under Ruud home to leicester probably helped in fairness!

Welp. Results like today is when he will be tested. Will he stick to his principles of playing 3 at the back or will he adjust because of the mounting pressure? ETH had to adjust his system in his first year because of results so will be interesting to see what Amorim will do.

We are no better defensively playing 3 at the back and it made our already shit attack even worse. ETH finished 8th with more or less the same squad while dealing with a mountain of injuries so if Amorim is any better he should be getting us to 5-6th at the very least. For that to happen, results need to improve and fast. I understand away games but we can't be losing home games to Forest and Bournemouth.

The previous regime and manager will haunt us for years to come. I don't understand people on here becoming impatient with Amorim after couple if weeks if you see what he's got to work with.

I have a feeling we’ll experience something new under Amorim: he’ll look at the state of the squad and club, and choose to step down if he isn’t backed in the summer.

There are multiple Amorim out posts in this thread. Criticism is fine and warranted, but people who want him out - that have such a remarkably limited attention span/patience - are not worth listening to.

We've won xG in the last 3 losses, so the underlying stats say we're playing well. We just need to finish our chances.
xG is a bullshit stat. No one who watched the game can come and say that we didn't deserve to lose it convincingly.

Yep, as I said, clueless. If you seriously think we were better under Ruud then you're not only clueless about this situation but football in general it appears.

He is not going to be blameless, but I think now it has become clear the players are the problem. Amorim probably wishes he has stayed with Sporting, won the league again, and could have landed a top job down the road, maybe even Man City. Or, that the hierarchy at United listened to him and he had come to the club at the end of the season.

Manager after manager and it is the same story. I remember when Klopp first went to Liverpool and we mocked his galvanizing of the squad with strange stunts. The classic new manager bounce happens when you have desire and effort. That Liverpool team was low on quality but high on effort. It took time and a hard path, but you could see that the players were willing to play for Klopp from the start. United's current team simply do not have the effort/desire and are dubious on the quality too.

They are just not willing to put in the extra running. Most fans would take the team simply looking arsed to be there. There are players there who downed tools on Ole, Tan Hag, and now with Amorim. Those players, whether it is one of ten of them are obviously impacting the dressing room and development of other players. It cannot be that every player and manager becomes shit unless there is something culturally wrong. It also cannot be that managers with a clear identity cannot impart that onto the squad when every other team in the league, even the shit ones, have a defined way of playing. The only explanation is the players are just not willing to listen to instructions. The only thing I can't figure out is why.

He needs to stop tinkwring now for a few games.

Get defensive setup and players comfortable in their positions.

Im sorry but having us parking the bus against Arsenal, getting thrashed at home by Forest and Bournemouth, needing to come from behind to beat poor sides in the Europa League, struggling against a crap City side, and gifting Spurs a League Cup semi final place is nowhere near good enough

Still better than the shit Ten Hag was serving up for 2 full seasons.

It really drives me mad that in 2024 people still can't understand this. Because it was the same way with Ten Hag except reversed, we'd win some chaotic game under Ten Hag while getting battered at our own end and people would talk about us "getting on track".

Our two best final third threats were awful in front of goal today and we have 0 quality behind them to pick up the slack. Add that with the endless set piece leakage and a stupid pen and you get a result that looks far worse than the game was.

He better hope Ratcliffe doesn't change his managers as quickly as he does his back room staff.

Poor blokes inherited the worst squad since the early 80's. That said this rotation thing has to stop, he surely sees now certain players just aren't up to it.

It appears our players have completely reverted back to their usual selves by forcing the build-up, taking too many touches and dribbles and then end up losing silly possession. We have no control of the ball today.

This is 100% on the players.

Amorim won’t waiver from his principles. If he fails then the club has failed him too.

Hopefully, we can get him 1 or 2 signings in January.

Sell some players who are surplus to requirements if needed.

3 goals from individual mistakes.
20+ shots but terrible finishing.

It's the Arteta situation at Arsenal. Great manager with shit squad. Get him decent squad and Amorim is challenging for the title.

Yes there are similar comparisons.

The main difference (and why I have faith in this guy) is because its clear to see what he's trying to do compared to the previous managers we had.

Its 90 minutes of trying the same routines over and over, which CAN work if we get better players.
Its not Mourinho/Ole hoofball or whatever ETH was trying to do with no midfielders.

You only need to look at the quality of our players and those that have left. Our recruitment has been abmysal for several years with 1 or 2 good signings in between.

I kinda did that when they decided to keep ETH on in July anyway :o

He deserves praise when we play well and criticism when we don’t. Today was god awful - even by the low standards we’re used too.

No matter how little time he’s had on the training pitch and the lack of quality in the squad, he should be able to set up the team to not get hammered by Bournemouth at home or - at the very least - pose an attacking threat.

The fact that he failed to do that doesn’t mean he won’t be a success here, but it does mean that he needs to do better identifying the correct players for they way he wants to play and give them better instructions on the pitch.

Yeah we didn’t take care of the ball that well today, just untidy and kept losing the ball.

We might be the only team capable of bringing a new manager and some how makes things worse. No point in comparing against ETH but we certainly have the team to beat Forest and Bournemouth at home. This deadwood excuse doesn't hold water and its on him.

The notion that he’s made us worse isn’t based in reality. Please look at the run of form leading up to Ten Hag’s dismissal

Everyone on the internet knows we were daft not making the change in the summer.
Get a few players the new manager can work with and actually have some time to train them.

Rather than bring him in right in the maddest congested time of the season where you play games or are resting.

Ten Hag should have been binned before Halloween last year.

3 cbs and 2 full backs but we are even worse defensively than under ETHs no midfield system.
I agree. I hate three CBs and i can't see it working consistently. Its a waste especially when you are conceding from all sorts of attacks. I also think you need outstanding forwards to make this system work and we don't have those.

Of course he needs more rotation, he came mid-season, this is basically his pre-season.
