Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Scumbag journalists trying to make a huge issue out of the decision to drop their favourite Rashy and Garnacho. 60-70% of questions directed at their absence and trying to trap Amorim into saying there was a disciplinary issue.

Thankfully handled absolutely impeccably by Amorim.

They must be bummed they didn't get to ask them after a loss too.

Off the pitch he’s been fantastic. A breath of fresh air. Charismatic, likeable, engaging. The complete opposite of ETH. He just seems like a top bloke. And for that I desperately want him to succeed.

On the pitch though it has been very underwhelming. New system or not you’d expect some kind of new manager bounce. At least an improvement from the guy who’s been sacked. As it is currently, we looked better under Ruud. I hope it’s just teething issues.
New manager bounce doesn’t mean anything.
We had that under Ole, but after 10 games it was gone and we had no clear style of play for 2 and a half years.
Amorim is putting in place his system, you can see that. We are kind of solid and in control in games, even away against strong opponents.
It’s not spectacular, but you can’t expect us to play breathtaking attacking football while we can’t score for two years now.
He did the same at Sporting. His first title was won on solid defense. He only introduced attacking football later, when the principles of his football were implemented.
Give him time. He deserve it so far.

I'm very happy with the approach. We look far far more solid defensively than we have looked in about 5 years. and we are keeping the ball better. The base of the team is getting solid. Attack will get better with time now that Amad has been moved upfield.

Imagine if we had more attacking players who had the speed, desire and intelligence of Amad. That's the aim now. We have to go out there and improve and build on what we have.

Didn't like the system at first but I am seeing the light. We are doing some impressive stuff with many players not suited for it

The way we’re controlling possession it effectively turns into us having so many available players in the opposition half. We legit just need the quality of players now. If we raise the floor in terms of athleticism and technical ability we’ll be good money

By luck I felt it was more fortuitous that our opponents faltered with unforced errors, rather than us actually creating enough. Bruno's opportunity was certainly a big one, but I feel we could have done more to put City to the sword. The game felt like a draw would have been a fair result, we got lucky Amad created a moment of magic and it's not sustainable as an approach going forward.

We'll need to build with more probing attacks than what we've showed today, vs Arsenal, Forrest, Ipswich and in Europe.
For someone which supported ETH until the end you seem to have no time for Amorim to put his footy in place.
No one saying it’s perfect. But we are solid, were the better team today and are seeing a cohesive style of play which will be improved with time and training.
It’s not like this team was scoring for fun in the last two years. ETH never won by 4 goals in the Prem in his entire tenure here.

When we lose the ball, there ain't many boulevards for opponents to run into either

Not just that but the technical ability to maintain possession under pressure and play in tight spaces.

Didn’t perform on the pitch or at the training ground ?
Being an overpaid poster boy shouldn’t allow him to make no effort to be in the squad.
Amorim is doing the right thing.
Rashford and Garnacho have been spoiled by the club as teenagers which is the wrong way to develop players and one of the reason why we are here. The coach is putting everything in place and the first thing is to give 100% at every training session and every game. No player should be above that.
This is the kind of mentality the club had under Fergie.
Sounds logical but this is only your opinion, isn't it? As interesting as it is, is there anything more substantial about it?

No I've revised my sentiment. The way the game ended just felt fortunate in that everything went our way in a short time
I've seen it the same way as you did. There were two teams out there today, neither of which really deserved three points in my eyes. We gift them with a bad goal from a set piece and then they more or less gift us the game with two pretty dumb decisions. Doesn't matter of course because points are points and we really need them. Plus it will be great for the confidence but reading this thread, it feels like its cooked a little hotter than it should.

I don't even think he's that fast, he's just intelligent and hard working.

Yeah I said it in his first couple of games but this system actually seems like a valid foundation to build on where simply buying quality upgrades will improve immensely. The fear throughout our past few managers for me was that I was never sure exactly how better players might make us play better because the system was always disjointed or unconvincing.

City are obviously in bad form but Liverpool weren't having a great season when we went there and conceded 7 to them. I like that we've gone away to City and Arsenal and not just looked to park the bus and get the odd counter attack, we've tried to get the ball down and play like a proper team. It hasn't been that pretty so far but the intention is right and I feel like we have a manager with the charisma and vision to actually get us moving in the right direction if we give him time to work on the training ground to coach these players and to bring in the right players (we desperately need more from the wing backs as a starting point).

Good point. We should've hired Fergie right after Matt Busby too. Looks like we never learn from our mistakes.
We didn’t even sign Messi before he went to Barcelona. Bunch of amateurs.

That what he said in his post match inteview. The 2 of them not being selected because they weren’t good enough.
He also specificaly said that Amad should not be praised too much as we commited this mistake with young players before : you can think he alluded too much Garnacho and Rashford who were formed at the club as youngsters.

Honestly my post never implied any of this

Why does Hojlund get lumped in with Dalot?

I thought he ran the channels well, held off Dias and linked up quite well.

Also should of had the penalty, but did I watch a different game?
I am little bit harsher on Hojlund because he is poor in his general play, today I admit he was better but still not there yet for me, but that pass to Bruno was delicious.

The pen claim was unfair not to be given.

Again Hojlund has to do a lot more because he is quite central in his importance to now Amorim plays, not only from scoring goals but his general play in terms of hold up, link up and positioning has to be at it's best, I think he can there but as of now he's not there yet .

Win is great but (as bad as City were) nice to see us have plenty of possession and control in the game. Good 2nd half where Amad had good chance and Bruno had a 1v1 situation against Ederson. Late goals were amazing but Nunes' mistake(s) made it happen and for me aren't the encouraging signs as much as what I mentioned in previous sentence.
I think we all can and should cut him some slack. Came during the middle of the season and therefore didn't get the chance to bring in player profiles he needs for his system, came into a mess that had been authored by his predecessor so has very few useful pieces to craft a team and he is still making us competitive in games and losing due to inherent flaws that will need millions to solve.

You speak as if you can have countless opportunities against City even when they are this bad. I think we just need to hold off on judgements until he has had more time with the team and brought in a few players. It's apparent that a few smart additions to this clusterfeck of a squad will make us more balanced and incisive.

Maybe not but you want Amorim to play attacking football in no time.
It’s a bit weird to be that critical after we won on the city’s turf so early in Amorim’s tenure, while he didn’t have time on the training pitch with the players.

I wasn't clear enough. Second half - being good in possession and few chances (Amad and Bruno) were more encouraging for me than those late goals, they were more result of Nunes' mistake that started it.

I want us to show more intent in attacking generally, and that's looking at other games not just the first 70 mins of this one.

Its not weird at all. Look at our opponents in the games ive mentioned. Im not asking for any finished article.

I think weve made good foundations in a short time, to be clear. That's why I said i want to see us build more

He's good at handling the dog shit British press (still early days, but everything is perfect so far).

He's positive without being ridiculous (Ole), he can give public criticism without completely chucking players under the bus (Mourinho) and he's not ridiculously blunt to the point of failing to build a rapport with said shit press (ETH).

Makes it way easier as fans to back the bloke long term.

Spot on. We’re going to grounds where we’ve got used to playing like a bottom of the table team and actually tried to play some football, attempting to take them on as equals. To me this is a huge, obvious positive. That would have been a step in the right direction, even with zero points from the two fixtures.

Today we had almost the exact same possession and the same amount of shots/shots on target (10/3 each). In this fixture last season we had 23% possession and they had 27 shots to just 3 from us.

At the Emirates last season Arsenal had 55% of the ball. This time round the possession was 50:50. These are all obvious signs of progress.

Really too much being made of this. Head coach or manager is just semantics - the job is the same.
We know it isn’t though? Literally have it from ETH, SJR direct quotes. It’s now 100% coaching focused from what can tell + media duties.

Cautiously optimistic. Of course like last week there will be games where players struggle to adjust to new tactics, but the direction is clearly there even in those moments.

He was very lucky today but I love his trust in Amad and general approach to building this team back up. I do want to see us go for games more though - today was a very fortunate win and we'll take it all day long as we build.
We were easily the better team today. First time since 2021-22 that we went away to a top 6 team and outplayed them.

"Today they trained really hard". Wow, that's cutting.

But but but Rashford is a sensitive soul who needs an arm around his shoulder...

Turns out he just needs a good old fashioned kick up the backside.

Amorim is the real deal, isn't he.

How many backside kicks has he needed over the years?

He needs to be kicked out. Find another club.

How about Vinny on the other side
