Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I think calling it lucky is what got the reaction. You could argue we were unlucky not to win by more, so to say it’s lucky we won is a stretch. It’s obviously still a subject that has left deep wounds for some, which is understandable when you see some of his signings still stinking the place out and players struggling to adapt to a more controlled way of football. Eventually it’ll be forgotten no doubt, but you wouldn’t concede an inch for a long time when it came to ETH, so you’re just setting yourself up when you bring negativity after beating a rival like City.
Thats untrue - I critcised our team performances at various points under Ten Hag but people cherry picked at the time.

And I'm not here trying to belittle our current manager. The win felt fortuitous the way the last passages went, that's all. For all of the shit I got for Ten Hag there's a lot of posters more obsessed with him than I supposedly was.

I think the difference I’m seeing between ETH and this guy in terms of setting standards is that ETH wanted hard work, and made some crucial decisions based on it which you couldn’t knock him for, but Amorim sounds like he wants the work ethic and the togetherness. For too long we have been a team of individuals.

The difference is this guy wants hard work and actually does something about it. The likes of Rashford and Garnacho were untouchable under ETH and Rashford was shit most weeks, but still played. And Amad, a player that actually has that traditional technically skilful but hardworking winger style, was completely overlooked. It never made sense, but I can see the logic in what Amorim does. He backs up what he’s saying. Everything we’re seeing is things he’s already predicted.

I'm enjoying his rotation and subs on that front too. Everybody is getting their chance, nobody is guaranteed anything, and subs feel valuable and not just like random hail Marys. It already feels like much more of a squad, as certain players come in and out game to game.

I guess we do have a slightly fuller squad than least season too, but ETH wasn't using them all like this

Liked what he said about Mount at the end there. That lad needs a bit of luck then he can be important for us.

If you did then I must have missed it in amongst all the excuses, they must have been some thinly veiled criticisms

In all honesty though I’m not interested in that discussion anymore, I was just pointing out why your posts were probably triggering to some people.

Ha, I have no interest in it either. I wish people can move forward, easier for some more than others clearly.

Great win and I fully believe in Amorim. I do think the team is struggling to balance his desire to keep the ball with when to really go for it. I don't believe he wants us playing as slow as we were at times tonight, especially when we were losing. I was tearing my hair out with some of our timidness because City were shite and there for the taking.

We look far more structured and more effective pressers, I don't think we'll often be completely embarassed under Amorim like we were under ETH. Credit to him for managing to instill that so quickly. Next comes being braver and figuring out how we can create more from open play when not in transition. Maybe we just need better players to do that consistently, there's certainly a glaring hole at LWB and we could really use another strong 10 and progressive 8 to pair with Ugarte.

Oh and can we fecking sort out the corners?

He really is the one. Every single player who shows signs of not being on board should get waterboarded. Failing that, sold.

Another mixed game where we were a bit crap in the first half but as soon we started taking some risks in the 2nd half we were clearly the better team and deserved our win. Amad best player on the pitch by a country mile and deservedly MOTM.

Not sure why we didn't start the game that way as City were clearly there for the taking. Feels like this lot needs to go down a goal to get some intensity in their game. Couple of things that irk me and I hope Amorim touches upon with the squad :

Bruno constantly misplacing passes and then missing a glorious chance to get us level. I know he scored but as a captain, in such a big game there's no excuses for him to miss that kind of chance and put in that performance.

I've supported Zirkzee a fair bit but both him and Bruno were a bunch of buffoons for not giving Amad any option to pass in the box when he won the penalty. Any player with a brain would be busting a gut to get into the box to give a passing option.

First half I thought the game was poor overall, from both teams, but one thing I Iiked about us was that it felt we were solid and focused defensively, and we also managed to pin them down for a sustainable period of time in the first half and then we just dominated them in the second. I admit a lot of the ball moved among the backline from side to side, it's still better than not having control of the ball at all or being under the kush of a sustained probes of a team like city, who even in their poorest form ever, can harm you if allow them to dominate you

Still early days but promising signs so far.

Clearly. Most others had 'moved on' a year ago. In fact, we have been way ahead of you all along..

Liked what he said about Mount at the end there. That lad needs a bit of luck then he can be important for us.
The problem with Mount is that he just doesn't have a role. We are at our best when Mainoo is the 8 and Bruno is one of the 10's. Mount can only play as one of the 10's which moves Bruno to the 8 where he is less effective and then Mainoo gets left on the bench.

Even when Mount is healthy..what is it that he is actually good at? Pressing, running..Wonderful we can promote a young lad from the 1st team to do that

We can't keep carrying players who can't stay healthy. Mount and Shaw just have to go.

His comment on how when people are losing their jobs in the club, you have to really hold yourself to a higher standard are brilliant. Very in touch with reality, grounded and the exact personality that we need in charge.

Love his comment at the end of his interview. Manchesters red and always will be.

He should’ve been hired straight after Fergie retired, would’ve saved us 10+ years of searching for the one.
Good point. We should've hired Fergie right after Matt Busby too. Looks like we never learn from our mistakes.

I’m thankful rashford is out of the squad. There’s absolutely room for Garnacho but he’s been shite this season.

Credit to Amorim, had we lost all the punditry would have been how different could it have been with Rashy and Garna. Their camps would have been right on to their favourite journalists and YouTubers with all sorts of briefs.

He stuck to his guns. Picked a squad that's for him not trying to get at him and, in the end, got a result. We still have to do something about how negative we are in attacking areas, there's a lot of p!$$ing about in the final third. However, he can feel vindicated in trusting Amad to deliver.

We're keeping the balls so much better already.

Yeah it's not right yet in the final third but that's a great platform established in a short period of time.

I always thought this team could at least become competent on the ball though. The ability to do so is there with this group.

He was very lucky today but I love his trust in Amad and general approach to building this team back up. I do want to see us go for games more though - today was a very fortunate win and we'll take it all day long as we build.
Was it lucky? We were the better team overall in most metrics. Pep agrees.

Aside from Hojlund and Dalot, this is actually true. And Hojlund is still the better choice upfront and Dalot is for LWB role
Why does Hojlund get lumped in with Dalot?

I thought he ran the channels well, held off Dias and linked up quite well.

Also should of had the penalty, but did I watch a different game?

Win is great but (as bad as City were) nice to see us have plenty of possession and control in the game. Good 2nd half where Amad had good chance and Bruno had a 1v1 situation against Ederson. Late goals were amazing but Nunes' mistake(s) made it happen and for me aren't the encouraging signs as much as what I mentioned in previous sentence.

You get a tough time here over Ten Hag but lucky and fortunate today? You deserve a two footed lunge here

Feels like a Klopp type manager who will transform us.

Not had this feeling in a long time, we also have a very solid squad who can only get better. A few places of improvement but very few.

Can someone please explain what Rashford has done to warrant being dropped like this? Any reliable rumours?
Didn’t perform on the pitch or at the training ground ?
Being an overpaid poster boy shouldn’t allow him to make no effort to be in the squad.
Amorim is doing the right thing.
Rashford and Garnacho have been spoiled by the club as teenagers which is the wrong way to develop players and one of the reason why we are here. The coach is putting everything in place and the first thing is to give 100% at every training session and every game. No player should be above that.
This is the kind of mentality the club had under Fergie.

The squat is not that good. Plenty of room for improvement : we need a striker and a 10 as well as 2 full backs and 2 midfielders I think.
Otherwise I agree with you. We will definitelly improve a lot under Amorim.

The whinging is really odd. I mean you just got an important league derby win away, you haven't been able of getting one of those in ages, having a pattern of getting humiliated in multiple big games and you still can't enjoy this.

Let me give some perspective. You got a new coach, without a pre season and with limited full squad training who inherited a mediocre imbalanced squad. It takes times to build something. You can't expect prime tiki taka Spain/Barcelona football with this little time of Amorim field work. I'd advise you to enjoy the derby win against a team who although is struggling has dominated English football in the last 4 to 5 year who have arguably the best manager in the world. More enjoyment, less whinge.
This place was complaining during Sir Alex's reign. That said, I am seeing only one who could be considered "whining".
