Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I am little bit harsher on Hojlund because he is poor in his general play, today I admit he was better but still not there yet for me, but that pass to Bruno was delicious.

The pen claim was unfair not to be given.

Again Hojlund has to do a lot more because he is quite central in his importance to now Amorim plays, not only from scoring goals but his general play in terms of hold up, link up and positioning has to be at it's best, I think he can there but as of now he's not there yet .
I agree his overall play needs improving.

I think under Amorim, with the limited training he has shown improvements, his link up play does leave a lot to be desired in moments.

I believe he is going to be a top striker, might be wrong, I also think the fact we are holding possession higher means he isn’t having to drop as deep as much, meaning he’s closer to goal.

So in just over a month as United manager in the middle of the season. Ruben Amorim has

- Won by 4 goals in over 2 years.
- Won first game away in Europe in over a year
- Won at city away in god knows how long
- Implemented his style and has made us better positionally and with the ball
- Dropped the divas in the team

The man is a genius.

We were easily the better team today. First time since 2021-22 that we went away to a top 6 team and outplayed them.
I meant toward the end the way it panned out thats all. Poorly articulated on my part

Saw a post on social media that there was 115 seconds gap between our goals. That would be so poetic if true:lol:

ETH spoke about the difference in his role post Ineos, you’re having a mare about such a non important point.
I didn’t say it was an important point, in fact my whole post was about too much being made of manager vs head coach when it’s just a job title. You’re the one swearing blind that it makes a jot of difference.

I just like the fact we are making an attempt to control games again, and I would've said that even if we didn't make that comeback, probably for the first time since LVG. Positive signs.

The next step is doing more with the ball when we have it, but it's definitely something to build on.

Just to clarify, you’re now aware (as you obviously weren’t before) that there’s a difference in the role ETH had pre and post Ineos. But you also believe it doesn’t make a difference?

I foresee this will be an intriguing exchange.

We know it isn’t though? Literally have it from ETH, SJR direct quotes. It’s now 100% coaching focused from what can tell + media duties.

What difference does that make in practice though? He hasn’t even signed anyone yet. So his job to date has been exactly the same as any other manager we’ve ever had. And when it comes down to it, I’d be amazed if he isn’t involved in decisions about what his squad is going to look like after the next transfer window.

I like that he's willing to put players back in their boxes and bench/banish them if they aren't doing what is expected at Manchester United. Finally there's signs of actually wanting some standards about the place, for far too long player power has been way too influential here. There were signs of ETH trying it early on before the same old suspects got picked and the likes of Amad frozen out so let's hope we don't see another false dawn. I also hope this approach is supported by the high ups and certain players aren't forced back upon him

I liked the comment that he sees everything, reminded me of SAF.

The football isn't great yet, but he's barely been in charge a month, it took Klopp time, I'd consider this season a free hit (ideally getting top 4) for him to get his system in place, and a proper handle on who the bad apples are/who won't fit and start to oust them. I'd like to see him start to introduce a couple of the kids who are close to being ready (I don't watch the youth games, are there any?) Obviously today wasn't the game for it, but it would send a further message to those underperformers, and also let him see which are nearly ready enough that we could use them in a position to invest elsewhere as our funds seem so limited

He has a big decision coming up in the not too distant future about Bruno I think

We were the better team but I feel we need to show more urgency to get the ball forward when attacking as our attack is still too slow

I really hope that he or people he trusts are heavily involved because our recruitment has been poor for a long time.

We all spent years under ETH and Ole wondering what we were trying to do and build. The smart United fans anyway….
Amorim has been here five mins and I already understand what he’s looking for and trying to implement. First manager since LVG who is trying to get us to control and assert ourselves in a match.

It’s clear there’ll be a fair few bumps on the road. There might be on Thursday at Spurs or Bournemouth on Sunday but he’s doing something that you can look at and say “that could work”.

You’ve got to remember this isn’t a squad naturally suited to his system and style. Imagine full flying wing backs in this system getting the absolute acres of space afforded to Dalot and Mazraoi at times today and in previous games. Imagine somebody like Amad playing in the second ten role.

This is a team with very little confidence so they’re not going to be zipping balls around and progressively with the click of a finger.
letting Amorim do his thing will require some patience. The last thing anybody should be doing right now is criticising him or the system. If there’s a rant to be had, should be against the players or that clown ETH who put this poorly suited squad together.

Vehicular collision at OT with the two tractors carrying both of Amorim's gonads. The willingness to bench just about any big name in a big game for a greater cause is something we haven't had in a while.

Well it hasn’t, we know they all functioned differently and did things differently I.e. Ole often would not be on the ‘grass’ so to speak and was much more high level. LVG was super hands on with absolutely everything from the groundsman to the canteen. With Ineos from what we know they only want a hands on coach who will lead training.

Recruitment won’t only be in the transfer windows though? He was interacting with scouts, agents, players likely every day on things that weren’t training specific. Even think of Ronaldo and Sancho, he decided their ‘punishment’ and basically seemed to handle the whole situation. Berrada will definitely not be just watching that unfold if something similar happens now. Then you’ve got all the data side, video analysis, we don’t know how much ETH did or did not do but when SJR said he was doing way too much and pulled in too many directions, he obviously changed the scope of the role and ETH spoke positively about it afterwards. Amorim has inherited that same role.

Thing is, Amorim has already been asked about this in a presser and has said of course he has a say in signings because he is the one who works either the squad and who’s head is on the line if the team doesn’t perform.
Just some folk want to believe this is some new dawn when in actual fact it’s a very minor semantic change.

Yeah, though we should have equalized much earlier either through a penalty on Hojlund or Bruno’s 1v1.

Omar and SRJ back him hugely and this is why he can drop Rashford. The players must feel this and whilst I can see a bloodbath in summer (for all the right reasons) I am confident most players will finally push on under him as he is the big boss now

The biggest cause for our woes over the last decade, player power and rewarding mediocrity is coming to an end, as it has to. I am loving how clear and concise Amorim is with his expectations of the players, the likes of Garnacho and Rashford have a decision to make.

Amad and Antony seem to have chemistry/some understanding building between them so wouldn't be against this...

Maguire has also been playing very solidly and confidently

Yeah. Two hardworking wingers on the same side that can keep the ball well. Never thought I'd want to see Antony playing again.

And Maguire, as in now, seems to suit that center CB better than de Ligt.
A higher tide raises all boats. So any player with the right attitude and work ethic will benefit.

Good analogy, man. It's nice to see squad players just step up, and all fight for those starting spots.

Bruno is central to everything good we do.

He presses with great stamina, has the courage to stand up and be counted and speaks well as a leader

Amorim won’t be dropping Bruno

The difference I suppose is that as manager EtH was expected to be reading scouting reports, watching videos etc,on a regular basis so some concrete targets could be identified ahead of the transfer windows. A head coach probably could spend some time on such activities, albeit substantially less than a manager, because the sporting director(s) would be expected to take the majority of that work.

I don't know how that would change with the departure of Ashworth.

Amazing job thus far.

In such a short period, we went away to the Etihad vs Pep's City and managed to control the ball extremely well for various periods in the game and looked extremely disciplined positionally.

Can't wait to see how it progresses from here.

Currently he won't but as soon as others around have stepped up enough, it'll be fine without him. He didn't play well today. Light and shadow and while he converted his pen very professionally, he certainly didn't shine brightly in todays match. There is a good chance that he'll end up without a position in this system. At least for the bigger games. He's not an 8 and there theres a good chance, other skillset combination will work better further forward.

Really shouldn't be doing this... Just enjoy the result for what it is - a very good result. No need to big anything else up, it will only increase the height of the fall once it comes. We gave away another dumb set piece goal. We equalized after a capital mistake and scored the lead with two pretty dumb decisions by the defense and some good fortune with Amads finish. Outplaying loses its meaning when it is used for that.

The Amad goal was a perfect example of an out of the training ground goal.
Every player has their movements alligned. It clearly wasn't something the players improvised.

Exactly and we’re not minus goal difference under him. There’s been clear progress already. People need to have patience

There are so many things to love about this win.

Amorim's first win against a rival
The come from behind victory

However the best part about it for me is that we won having rightfully dropped Rashford and Garnacho. You just know the knives would have been out for that decision had we lost.

Incredible pressure off his shoulders after today. 3 day rest as well. Let’s smash Spurs Ruben! Revenge game!

We were the better team but I feel we need to show more urgency to get the ball forward when attacking as our attack is still too slow

Our attack in the final 3rd is ponderous at times, but it'll come with more time.

Last season, we barely got into the final 3rd in the same fixture.

The progress has been clear as day in a pretty short period.

"When people at the club are losing their jobs, we have to put the standard really high". Basically telling some players should be ashamed and therefore improve but saying it in such a neutral and blameless way. I think he might be a genius...

Its true though. Regular employees get the sack while they feck around unbothered getting paid hundreds of k per week.
