Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Yeah, but thats what buys you time as a manager. ETH beat Liverpool, Arsenal and City in his first season which bought him time.

The performances were also good. There were also times under Ole, we had good performances and results vs the big teams.

As a Manutd manager, you have to be winning those games, otherwise the pressure mounts.

The performances were okay. The Liverpool game probably the only one I would say stood out as memorable, and it wasn't memorable because we were all of a sudden amazing, but because of the 2 previous bad results and the subsequent post game cross country session he had them doing.

The 7-0 on the other hand, that's memorable.

If we lose but the team put in effort and a good performance then it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. The system needs to be worked on week in week out and that time includes in game.

Almost all the players are getting rotated and those two are the only ones we have for that more defensive role in midfield. As such they've been rotating with each other, which makes perfect sense for most opposition. One plays, one gets rested (and does more intense training), then they swap for the next match.

It'll be interesting to see what he does against Arsenal, as playing both of them may be the best option against top teams. Ugarte is a certainty, so it'll be either Bruno beside him or Casemiro while Bruno plays further forward.

Agreed. I'm just thinking if he had any thought to start those two against Arsenal, he'd have them get some minutes together prior. But maybe he has seen enough of them during RVN's games that he doesn't need more.

The Liverpool one was not memorable but was a good performance. The 7-0 was the problem with him... too many gaps.

I know we say oh if the team puts effort and its a good performance, it doesnt matter. But what does that mean?

Would you be happy with 20% possession and we lose 1-0? If the performance is good, we should win really or draw.

Pfft! Does it really make it more bearable if you spend the whole time hedging your bets? It means you don't get to fully enjoy anything for ages as even if he does take us back to the top it'll still take years. Go all in! If it falls apart well feck it that's what life is about. Enjoy the ride. We're fans. We're not supposed to be all sensible and cautious.
I like this take. Besides it’s been proven to work: More optimistic people experience fewer and smaller disappointments.

Godo performance would be creating quality chances, stringing together good passages of play, and denying the opposition the same mostly.

If we go and miss 3 sitters and lose 1-0 on a scrappy set piece that's still a "good performance", just like us winning 1-0 on a smash and grab while getting battered in our own half isn't a good performance but a good result.

When the pressure mounts, Mason Mount.

Free Mason.

Very fair and very honest.. Some of the fans are getting too excited too soon and understandably so after what we've been put through the last few years, but we need to remember this guy has only just started, and in the busiest time of the season, with very few training sessions and he's completely transforming the way we play, and the system we play, so he needs time and possibly a couple of players before we can see his full impact. How refreshing to see a coach speak so openly and clearly and keeping us fans in the loop on where the team is and what we should be expecting

Love the cheeky grin when he says Manchester United is a little bit different:devil:

Is there any other coach in football who is that candid ? I don't follow many leagues outside the PL.
So nice to hear him say. Essentially that he's working with a lot of mismatching parts that don't fit (which is obvious to anyone that pays attention to our club), and we will get pumped sooner or later by a good side due to both this and the learning curve of getting used to a new system

Jose Mourinho? But Mourinho is more negative in his execution when he says these things.
Good shout, he's like the modest version of a young Jose

Got the charm and charisma out the ears like him but a lot more humble and amiable/affable

Dunno how this popped up in my recommended but he had beef with Pepe of all people.

It’s kind of crazy that a win puts us only 3pts behind Arsenal. Obviously not the likeliest of the three outcomes but would be nice.

A win would give us all a real buzz. I’d happily take a draw and then a win on Saturday. A win here would be massive though against a top 4 rival.

He keeps reminding the team is not fully trained yet especially in changing tactics during the game.

To calm the expectations I’d say. He’s only been here for a couple of weeks and already I can see that fans are getting ahead of themselves.

It's quite refreshing to see that attitude rather than the "we're back" statements we usually see after a few wins.

Points here and there are nice but there's a long term goal and until it's achieved we won't be back. Need to keep the players focused on improvements rather than results.

A win tonight and he’s going to really struggle to suppress the hype!

Yeah, telling it how it is.

Ralf Ragnick?

I think it's basically just like how it is in corporate life, having a higher up who says "half of our company is fecking shit, we need an open heart surgery" v.s someone who is saying "we are making progress but at the state of our company I foresee some tough situations ahead" just hits different.

Reading between the lines when he talks about the storm that will hit.

He says, it will come because he watches football and understands it but he also says "I know my players", so he has clearly seen something he is not impressed with.

Gotta be honest this is a first manager post SAF who I have a good feeling about, can’t help but to finally get excited on what the future holds.

He was essentially comparing the players he has to teams like Arsenal. He knows his players and he sees what's in the League and knows a storm will come because he knows football.

His honesty and charisma is just fantastic. Like, I have a bit of a man crush forming. He’s great at tempering expectations.

The fact he doesn’t regurgitate the same nothing statements that many other managers do just itches my brain just right.

Not expecting anything from tonight. Would be delighted with a draw.
