Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Ralf Ragnick?

I think it's basically just like how it is in corporate life, having a higher up who says "half of our company is fecking shit, we need an open heart surgery" v.s someone who is saying "we are making progress but at the state of our company I foresee some tough situations ahead" just hits different.

Reading between the lines when he talks about the storm that will hit.

He says, it will come because he watches football and understands it but he also says "I know my players", so he has clearly seen something he is not impressed with.

Gotta be honest this is a first manager post SAF who I have a good feeling about, can’t help but to finally get excited on what the future holds.

He was essentially comparing the players he has to teams like Arsenal. He knows his players and he sees what's in the League and knows a storm will come because he knows football.

His honesty and charisma is just fantastic. Like, I have a bit of a man crush forming. He’s great at tempering expectations.

The fact he doesn’t regurgitate the same nothing statements that many other managers do just itches my brain just right.

Not expecting anything from tonight. Would be delighted with a draw.

I don't think he is comparing the players as such, but rather the team. He knows that Arsenal have been able to work on strategies/patterns of play etc. for a good while - a basic luxury that he has not had.

Amorim's honeymoon period: He's so dishy and brutally honest. I love that.

Post-honeymoon: Not a United manager!!! Making excuses before a match.

Fair play to Goatmorim for being consistently on point with his pre and post match pressers (genuinely). It's a low bar, but he speaks really well, can criticise without being negative and is positive without being ridiculous.

Early doors, etc etc.

But yeah, statue asap.

He thinks our players, or many of our players, are unable to keep possession and build attacks that lead to chances.

If he was on the other side of town he’d already have one

He's basically saying we have a crap squad compared to Arsenal and we're up against it tonight, which may be true but I'd rather not hear a United manager say it. Ten Hag would be torn apart for a similar comment to be honest.

As another poster said, it's the honeymoon period so people will be more tolerant to whatever he says. Once we hit a rocky patch or the "storm" as he calls it, then the pitch forks will be out.

Where did he say that or imply that?

No he did not... he said they are ahead of us. He did not say anything about our squad being crap.

He is actually saying what we are all thinking and what we know, Arsenal are a top team and we are building.

We also know that we have holes in the team and the way we play, we have the potential to get beat, which is the storm he talks about.

Only by dramatic fans with unrealistic expectation who crave bravado talk from their manager

I’m not so sure. There’s a definite feeling that fans are beginning to realise that perhaps the manager is not the whole issue and that the players shoulder most of the responsibility.

Post SAF, everyone wanted to get back to winning titles immediately. Now that 10yrs have passed, most are realising going for the title is unrealistic and a slow build is needed and for that, we need dedicated players to bleed for the shirt. It’s become apparent over the years some wouldn’t so I feel Amorim has some pressure off him in this regard.

Of course you’ll always have this weird faction of fans that want immediate glory from the moment they step in the door. Completely unrealistic.

He was simply suggesting Arsenal is a well drilled team because they are in the system for quite some time compared to couple of weeks of training of United squad.

It's unreleastic now, not when SAF left. Hire Jose right after Sir Alex and you get another title easily.

This. It all depends on what happens on the pitch. If all is going well, he could sing songs at press conferences, and people will call him genius. But if it doesn’t then anything he says will be held against him.

Not necessarily. The players won’t adapt straight away from going from an attacking team to a defensive one in the space of a season.

He wasn't always defensive manager. Remember him at Madrid early on? They broke some scoring records I think.

It's possible he would have carried from the same place tactics wise SaF left at, relying on the leaders in the dressing room.

Maybe. I mean I do think we’d have had a better chance at competing and carrying on where we left off with Jose in charge over Moyes.

He's also aware that scousers aside, the league is shite. If we can regularly beat the likes of Everton 3/4/5 - 0 and pick up the odd point in matches like tonight, we have a fantastic chance of finishing in the top 5.

Our season won't be defined by tonight. If we're playing this eleven next season against a team like Arsenal then we should be concerned.

Liking the pragmatism so far. Obviously it'd be nice if the team had more of goal threat but he's set us up really well for the most part. Someone to come off the bench and nick it for us would be nice.

We did ok in the 1st half, contained arsenal well but 2nd half was terrible. Arsenal stepped up a gear or two and we couldn't cope. Attacking wise we were non-existent.

A real learning curve tonight for him, these matches will do him more good in the long run. He can see who is good enough and who's not good enough to play the football he wants.

We need a rebuild and we don't want another false dawn under these players who have time and time in the past downtools on managers

First half we were solid & did well. Second half, the deficiencies became evident.

Hopefully he gets to bring in the players he needs to fit his system. Given time & the recruitment, I’m sure he’ll get us back to the top.

It's ok. He is getting to see which players have something to offer going forward and which need to be binned.

I thought we played a good tactical game tonight and the performance was good. We just dont have the match winners to win big games.

Rashford, Zirkzee, Hojlund, Anthony, Garnacho. All decent but not top players.

I still don't get Bruno Fernandes in that midfield two. I hope that's not the hill, he'll choose to die on.

It's weird, because the obvious choice today would've been to just stick Casemiro and Ugarte in the middle if we wanted to just contain them.

Didn't like the backs against the wall display first half, far too pragmatic.
I don't think it was backs against the wall but it was super conservative. We basically took zero risks on the ball and offered no threat. I think Arsenal improved second half more than us getting worse.

It wasn't a good performance at all imo. Structurally we showed we can defend if needed to but the lack of attacking threat was worrying. It wasn't as if we got into decent positions and fecked the final action, we just never looked dangerous.
