Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

There are a number of players whose futures are in doubt. Intensity is one of the basic requirements for the coach, and a number of players are either unable or unwilling to adopt.

You can't coach Garnacho to have the traits required to be a good number 10. He doesn't have the technical faculties in order to do so.

He's not going to last here.
Its funny amorim said he learned Garnacho played well between the lines, but I didnt think that was the case from the match vs Ipswich.

He is doing a lot of interviews. Need to get him off the camera and in the office. This is ridiculous from United to put pressure on the coach.

Sadly, we said that for many of the previous players but even after spending bollock loads of money, we find ourselves in the same spot. We buy so poorly at times and haven't a clue how to mold a team together.

I distinctly remember that ETHs tactics also required intense pressing. Yet we seem to be stuck with a bunch of geriatrics.

I often wonder how much of your success was down to Hugo Viana and your recruitment team vs Amorim and his coaching staff. Clearly Hugo did a very good job. You can see that from your net spend and the fact that he got the city job.
Hopefully, with the new leadership structure we've got, Amorim well have the same level of support or better. However, if it's worse, like it has been for several years, Amorim will probably not succeed. The only thing I expect from Amorim, is to get our team to play to it's talent level. Right now, based on talent, we're in that next bracket of 4/5 teams, after Arsenal, Liverpool and City.
There are two very distinct phases in Hugo Viana´s job at Sporting CP: before and after Ruben Amorim´s arrival.

Before he did not do a good job. Too many flops came into the team (Bolasie and Jese, just to name two). You can say he was inexperienced and had little money to spend but even though.... not good; after Ruben Amorim, Sporting started to generate more money with the sales and to buy better players. Some of them really good and real bargains. Amorim was the key decisor in some deals but others were attributed (even by Ruben) to team scouting only - Viana mainly.

What changed was that Ruben had a very important role as the "final call". Even when the scouting identified what it considered a good player and deal, if Ruben didn´t want him, he would not join the team; And if Ruben really wanted a player, Sporting did everything and beyond to bring him in

Do you think that Viana will do well at Man City?

He is the manchester United manager, ofcourse he will have interviews. Sky sports and TNT both have rights to interviews on their TV rights deal.

Then as a new manager you'd expect him to speak to the club media when he is announced, which he did.

Every manager has to go to a press conference, pre game interview and post match interview, followed by post game presser.

As a new manager he will probably do 2 more in a week for the first 2 weeks.

A tweak in tactics could allow Rashford to play in one of the 10 positions. Try him as a left inside forward and have the striker play a false nine role.

Just thinking out loud. Or we could sent him on his way, if he’s not into football anymore.
Again, you’re almost asking the manager to change his formation and expectations to adapt to the squad/ players at hand. Whilst not an unreasonable expectation at all, aren’t we all sick to death of these players being pandered to and inevitably letting everyone down, fans included? With respect, even moreso someone like Rashford who’s gone through prolonged periods of not looking like he gives a shite. Most of these players have had enough chances at the club. If they don’t fit in they should be shipped out and not “accommodated” anymore. (Of course these are, in reality, way easier said than done).

This is what Arsenal did with Arteta and it obviously worked for them even though it meant selling some of their (at the time) better players. There’s no way to get around it.

Yeah I didn't see it either. I'm not sold on him as a player but let's see what happens. Still waiting to see Kobbie.

This. If we are to progress we need to stick with a system and find the best performers. Not alter our plans to accommodate out of form players in a hope they find form again.
We should aspire to be able to lose any player and replace them with an equal or greater talent seamlessly.

Yeah, and to make things worse, we just went through a manager who was appointed for playing some really attractive football but felt he needed to change his ways to fit the squad. Look where it's gotten him/us. Now we've appointed Amorim, on the back of the success of his very distinct set up, but we're asking him to make tweaks here and there just to shoehorn in some players - & out of sorts players at that (it's not exactly prime Ronaldo/Messi, is it?)...and if it all goes pear shaped, we're all sat there scratching our heads, wondering how it happened, cursing the manager.

Again, its just excuses by us United fans. If players are not willing, dont play them, that is what other top managers do.

Its actually false what you have said btw.. Chelsea had Potter and Poch and those players did not show a style, yet Maresca took over and showed style, so that theory is out the window.

Where has Bruno publicly said he wont change his style?
I have read that he is perfectly capable of changing style because he plays different styles. Can you show me a link where Bruno specifically says he wont change how he plays?

In the pre match interview yesterday.

Hargreaves : “Rashford is still one of Manchester United’s best players” what are all these pundits seeing that I’m not?

Look, let’s just let the new manger get on with it , this season, or the rest of it should be about getting to best position in the league that they can, try and win a cup, but things will not suddenly be wonderful, I know it’s been said before , but patience is required.

He sounds so much like Ronaldo when you just hear his voice isolated.

Exactly. These players have done nothing of note to warrant such adjustment. Why should a manager adjust to the players’ way when you have evidence that they have been dogshit for multiple managers now?

Rashford is in serious trouble based on his quotes.

He can't play wingback.
He's a terrible fit for one of the two no. 10 positions, and Amorim made it clear that he can't handle no. 9
As he should be. Out of the NT, no improvement in performances at club level. Seems like he doesn’t care about football anymore.

Thank you Murtough for handing him that gigantic undeserving contract.

Feel so bad for the guy. Has so many dumb players in the squad.

Just because you repeat it across the match day thread and here, doesn't quite make it true. Give him and the team time. I fear you want to be right more than you want the team to succeed.
Welcome to RedCafe!

Okay he has a system but at least try to play players which suit it. Bruno in CM? For this system to work you need your CM to press. We don’t have midfielders to do that.

I like the way he's set up the team, and it's only the second match. Unfortunately we have several really shit players who Amorim will be desperate to get rid of, but obviously there's nothing that can be done about that for now.

Patience is needed. Last thing I'd want him to do is go back to some fecking Ole ball just to get the best out of our players, many of whom will be replaced in the next couple years

Another one will bite the dust, it seems. Probably it's a bit early to say, but Amorim looks way to soft for our team.If I was him I would look at the academy potential if I intent to implement some style or philosophy of the game in this team.Because he won't go anywhere with this lot.

The formation thing is such a lazy excuse. It would be reasonable to blame the system if these players had been setting the world alight in 4-2-3-1 but they have been equally shite in that too. Shit feckin pundits.

I'm glad he's doing tryouts to see who can play this system and I think it's plainly obvious so far who just won't be able to hack it and in which positions. I think the players are keeping more to his system this game, I just think a few of them are really done. Malacia is cooked I think i'm afraid, almost no pace. a few of the players can't even pass 4 damn yards, that's not on the system.

Other than that, i'm liking what i'm seeing, looking forward to see it bedding in more with more appropriate players. When the players don't lose their heads we have a lot more control than normal.

How does Amorim look ‘way too soft’?

you reckon?

1 and a half games is a bit early to making judgements like that I'd argue.

It's his second game having come in at short notice mid-season, I'm not one to give managers slack, I was hard ETH out at the end of last season... But give the man some time and let's see how we're doing and what team he settles on after he has had at least a pre-seasons worth of games ffs.

Enjoying what I'm seeing so far. Ignore the score and opposition for now, it's easy on the eye and we are pressing for the ball more coherently than at anytime under ETH.
Really hasn't taken long to see these system changes

Yes we are also moving the ball way quicker when possible
