Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

People here (some) need to take note of it.

It’s exactly what happened in the cycle of EtH. Chasing results without the focus on actually changing the philosophy, culture and style.

That’s why we are where we are now.
True. Not winning today is probably going to be better for us as it won't paper over the cracks as much as if we would have nicked a winner there.

This is still fundamentally an ETH team so not expecting miracles overnight.

Without a preseason, the best case scenario is what Klopp did with Liverpool. A 3 or 4 months where he tries to implement his core ideas and also adapt to the players and the league. Which means up and down performances.

He is the opposite of ETH. I have no doubts he will succeed if we back him.

Certainly, everything he mentioned in the post-match comments is correct.

The transition to actually win games mentally is a great insight, notice under Erik his team would consistently coast after being 1-2 or even 3 goals up.

Also explains why there was at one point many draws in the past, which eventually turned to losses when Erik decided (foolishly) to get more expansive with the system.

He was all over the place. Never won the ball when he stepped in to nick it and left space behind. His slow passing contributed massively to our issues building from the back too as I mentioned.

He wasn't alone. Many players had poor games. Evans was even worse.
I dont think that's remotely true about MDL. He was very solid and not as ponderous on the ball as any of his peers. Ugarte was quite careless at times and too rash trying to hack players down.

So, a pretty shit performance against a relegation threatened team. Ipswich are alright at home but we barely threatened after our early goal. Said this in the match thread but their defense is absolutely hopeless and we didn't even trouble them for the majority of the game.

ETH atleast got us creating chances against teams like these, his problem was our players inability to score. We've created jackshit today. I can understand it to some extent with the players playing in a new system in different roles but I expected us to be better than what we've shown.
Get a grip! ETH didn’t do shit. We “created” chances against this type of opposition cause we were going to end to end with relegation teams. We had no structure. We had no control. Amorim is just to fix just that.

…or if he’d decided to not implement the philosophy and just try and win at whatever cost..

That’s the key point. We could set up like Ruud had us and may have won or we can start the plan now and reap the rewards further down the line.

I honestly can’t understand what Ten Hag has been doing the last 2 years. Fitness shocking, first touch of most players has been shocking, passing is shocking. And this is a team largely signed by him. He’s really damaged this team, posters saying he left it better than he found it are having a laugh.
Give it a rest mate. Time to move on, embrace the new way and support the team.

Certainly can't fault what he's saying in the interviews. Guy knows what he wants and isn't spouting any delusional bullshit.

I mean watch him again then. He constantly chose to pass sideways to his LCB/RCB which allowed Ipswich to close us down and get closer to the WB on that side making it harder for us to progress the ball and get out.

You could see from the training video the other day he wants us to hit diagonals to either WB's quickly to not have that issue and MDL was just far too slow with his passing and decision making. We didn't do this anywhere near enough.

Even bigger problem is the lack of motivation from the players. I expected to see them motivated, up for the game and search for the winner but it never really happened. It was a tepid performance from everyone.

Amad was our best attacker and he was playing WB. Hopefully he plays next to Bruno as the no.10 and Garnacho is put back on the bench. All Garnacho has shown this season is he is best at coming on against tired legs and running at them. Actually laughable really that he thought Garnacho can work as the no10 but I'll cut him some slack as he probably never watched him before.

Hopefully he learnt a lot about this squad and their qualities from today's game.
No he didn't. Not consistently, anyway. Besides, comparing a manager 2 and a half years into his tenure to a manager who comes in mid-season and has 2-3 training sessions before his first game is nonsensical. ETH was gradually making us worse. The hope with Amorim is we see slow and steady improvement as he implements his system.

Yeah I think lack of quality in the press, poor decision making , struggling to find team mates when pressed - for many players, they just don’t have it in this regard.

Our way out was constantly down the line. But when you play a duo of casemiro and Eriksen it's not so surprising. Neither exactly show for the ball or make quick movements to make space.

Diagonals into the WBs don't just happen straight away
These things take time. I've seen all the videos and the match too. Complaining that he passed laterally in an away game where everyone looked pretty confused in their position is a weird gripe to have.

Crediting Ugarte for something he didn't do is also a bit odd. He didn't organize anyone, we looked pretty much the same, with Ugarte leaving his foot in a few challenges and having some poor passes of his own.

You also need a striker who can run the channels and hold it up which is definitely not Rashford

I think he spoke really well post match. Was direct and honest. He knows what is needed.

I couldn't agree more. And that goes for every interview so far. He is very clear and direct without being disrespectful or throwing the players under the bus.
He has a very clear focus and a high expectation of the team and that shines through. Also really enjoyed how lively he was on the sideline. Constantly directing but not acting like a tool like Klopp.

Yes it was obviously not our strongest XI which is why patience is required and people don’t need to overreact and three training sessions and one match.

Very true. As soon as Hojlund came on he actually made a few very good runs in behind but then we didn't seem to know how to create from those positions.

He sounded absolutely disgusted with the state of the squad.
It is disgusting. Ten Hag built an atrocious team and didn't move on players who failed decisively under former managers like Rashford.

He looked absolutely raging before and after the interview. Hopefully he’s given the time and resources to sort it all out and implement his vision.

We won our last match before the international break fairly comfortably. Continuing from that was not asking too much.

I think it's fair to ask why we went to Ipswich and broke up the Ugarte-Casemiro midfield, and whether the changes we saw were the right ones.

That doesn't mean I am writing off the manager after one game. But there's standards that Ten Hag and others have lowered. Think it's fine to expect three points at Ipswich.
First of all, that was against a really poor Leicester team at OT, and this one was against a spirited Leicester team playing at home, on the back of a massive first win against spurs. So the context is a bit different.

On top of that, he introduced a new system, players were off on international duty, and some like Ugarte came in very late.
You can expect 3 points every game, just because we are Man United, that doesn’t mean it reflects the reality of the situation.
This squad is a really remarkable assembly of average but very expensive footballers. He needs time to turn it around.

Maybe watch the game next time.
What part of I've seen the game is difficult for you to understand?
I agree MDL made lateral passes but to gripe at him and make other things up in a list just to single him out with Evans is hilarious. Almost as funny as crediting Ugarte shortly after.

What didn't happen?

As he should.

Questions from journos can be soul crushing. Swedish viaplay reporter got an interview with him and asking him with a smug grin on his face questions in the mould of; Welcome to the premier league, What did you learn today?", "Why are you the right man?" Jose Mourinho was the special one, who are you?"

Last one is just taking the piss. Give the man a break. He's been here for for 5 mins.

Agreed. The rest of the season is going to be spent deprogramming the players from ETH-ball and instilling his own style/formation/tactics. Then in the summer, we can look at buying and selling to make it a proper Amorim squad. Just like with Klopp and to a lesser degree Pep, it takes at least a year or two to get the balance right.

They were beating our attackers to everything in behind. Besides, Ten Hag took that easy route and used it as a crutch. Time to move away from it and learn to play proper football, even if we drop points by not trying Hail Marys from Bruno for 90 minutes.
We played the ball back and forth in the backline a 100 times between five players.
If you can’t play through your opponent, go long.

We can train during the week to get better at progressing the ball in this system.

"He was all over the place. Never won the ball when he stepped in to nick it and left space behind"

This bit is quite exaggerated and made up. Just like the Ugarte bit.
He did those things. It's not that deep. I am aware of the underlying context .

I was ETH in, but will of course throw my full support behind Amorim.

Shocking performance by some players you would think would have busted every possible gut to impress the new boss.

We won't win a thing until Bruno, Rashford and their lazy arse mates are gone. It is fecking insane when you think how much that group of players cost to assemble, and God knows how long it will be before Ineos can move 90% of them on.

I'm Portuguese and you can rest assured with Amorim. He knows what he's doing. Time after time. Trust me.
