Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Think he should give a clean slate to everyone to prove themself for the 15th time.

Quick post match interview - he basically said that it will be tough for players to adjust to what he wants in real time (rather than pre season), but it will be better in the long run than if he reverts to a game plan they're used to (which might win a few more games)

Pretty much what most of us were thinking anyway, but that's what he said.

That was a really refreshing post match interview. He knows he’s got his work cut out.

Sackwatch?
Nah, he's a very good coach, but I don't believe that there's more than a couple of players who can pass the bar.

There's too many scrubs in their ranks who've been elevated to the rank of superstars and given an adulation and a salary they don't deserve. Ole's and especially Ten Hag's era will be difficult to erase.

After winning every single game with Sporting. He’ll know he’s in for a tough ride with us

Brilliant interview. Exactly what i wanted to hear. He wants to succeed. I loved the bit about Bruno, Zirkzee and Evans, he saw the problems and is not sugarcoating it.

There was very little sign of a new manager bounce today.

Not sure about either the starting XI, which lacked legs in midfield, or some of the changes. For example, Zirkzee did not appear to add anything. While persisting with Garnacho was a bit surprising. Especially when we needed to get Amad closer to goal. Training performances maybe showing him more than we see from outside.

I think he's the right guy and that this will work out well. However, calling a spade a spade, today was no better than what we were producing under Ruud.

It was worse than how we played under Ruud to be honest. But that's not really unexpected, as Ruud played pretty much how we had already been playing. Good enough sometimes to beat some teams - that's not what we are aiming for

Poor bloke already looks fed up.

It really is the impossible job. Too much discussion, too many opinions, too much pressure. That’s the reason why so many players and managers fail once they sign for us.

Play Amad closer to their goal not as a wing back.
Shaw and mazraoui should be the wing backs
Ugarte and casemiro seem to be our best midfield pairing this season
Dalot is not a left wing back
Garnacho is not a 10.

Hopefully he’s not as stubborn as Erik and adapts quickly.

Interesting first game. I liked a lot of the drilled patterns and how we looked to cut through Ipswich's press. Think it's pretty obvious how lacking in athleticism that team was today in the back 3 and midfield. And we lack so much quality in attack. Amad clearly needs to be one of the 10's, he's wasted at wingback.

All things considered about what I expected for a first game. Let's see what adjustments he makes going forward.

You could tell the players were finding it difficult to know where each other were in the new system after the first goal. It's going to take more than one game and 1 week of training to erase all the bad habits from the incompetent coaching of the previous manager and get all the players familiar with a totally new system from the 4321. I saw promising signs, that his system can be a success in the premiership, the problem is our players are not athletic and physical enough, I saw evans, dalot, mount and eriksen continuously get bullied off the ball in key areas.

Then we have players who lack footballing IQ such as rashford, garnacho, who struggle to read and anticipate the next run of play or can't take on their man consistently. Only amad has the techinical ability to hold play up and make the right decisions in dangerous area's of the pitch consistently so that's another problem with the team

Not sure what could be reasonably expected of him after a few training sessions. Irrespective of the result and performance today, it needs more time to see any tangible progress.

“I’ve done more interviews this weekend than I did with Sporting in 4 years “ walks away and gets handed another microphone for another interview

A new manager bounce only occurs if the team is generally ok, but the environment has gone sour. Players running around more, trying harder etc. It doesn’t make players better. Our lads didn’t even look like they’re trying to impress the new gaffer, so no bounce. There’s no accountability in our club. These players shat the bed for two years and all that happened was we sacked the manager. No consequences for the playing staff at all. And before I get hit with “these aren’t the same players”, it really doesn’t matter. They believe it won’t fall on them, so they just carry on as before. Amorim needs to get ruthless, and fast. And Ineos need to back him. He said he believed in the players until they show him he shouldn’t. Well this was a big feck you to that, and hopefully he’s realised the truth about this squad.

It's very silly of anyone to question the system this early. He needs time to come to his own conclusions about who fits where.

Long term I doubt Cas, Eriksen, and Evans would even start. We'll start soon having a better idea of who's going to be the main WBs. He'll keep experimenting until he comes up with something that works up front as well.

It is what it is. But I doubt we'll need a new squad in the summer.

He has the potential to provide some Interview Highlights in the future if things don't improve. He's already tired of the media intensity and system talks

Really good interview after the game. It’s going to take time unfortunately but he’s the right man for the job

We just need players with the mentality to handle all that.

I'd rather results are shaky but he forces his ideas onto this side until they get the hang of it, opposed to what ETH did, completely changing his approach to try and match the players.

Either the players can adapt to what he wants or they get replaced, simple.

Going to take time, wouldn't put too much stock on the results for a while, will be up and down as they get used to this style.

Yep, unlike Ten Hag who would say the players were giving 100% but refused to acknowledge how poor they were.

You can tell he’s fed up of the media nonsense already.

The one thing that stood out to me was the defenders' slowness and hesitancy, particularly MDL's at times.

He was constantly making the short pass to his RCB/LCB instead of going longer to either wing-back, which allowed Ipswich to get a lot closer to Amad/Dalot, which hindered playing out of the back and keeping the ball better.

I've not survived on here for so long without a single infraction point without knowing when and when not to make a joke!

Everyone is (quite rightly) still very optimistic so a little joking is allowed.

So you would like to see such thread created but cant do shielding after, gotcha. Feel like a black ops when govt tell you that they will play dumb if you get captured.

By “adapts” do you really mean “plays exactly the team that I think we should play”?

I feel we would be much better with a few adjustments to the starting XI:

- My back three will be Yoro, De ligt and Shaw
- Amad and Maz the WB's (I would really like to see Amad as one of the front 3; however, we don't have anyone for the position at the moment unless Antony steps up)
- The midfield has to be Ugarte and Mainoo
- Mount and Bruno should be the two #10's
- We really don't have a striker so either of Rashford or Hojlund would do.

We need to raise the technical level of the starting XI if we want more ball retention and ball control. All these players who are poor on the ball need to be on the bench.
