Mata helped his team win the CL, something Mahrez has never done.
I wouldn't discount Spurs so easily. They could use a player like him and have been very active recently. If they're in Paris anyway to wrap up Aurier, maybe they told Mahrez and his agent to meet them there instead of having him fly to an empty training ground?

Mata's best years are behind him. Mahrez's best years are ahead of him.
Sure Mata can suffice and help United win the EPL but come CL, he won't be a difference maker whereas Mahrez will. Mahrez is an elite player and simply offers more.

Yeah that's a bit over board, I don't think Mahrez is an elite player at all, but he can be very good, and delivers a lot of what we lack.
Mahrez had an off year last season and put up virtually identical numbers to Mata who at the same time was raved as one of our better players.
If that alone is not enough then I don't know what is. Plus he's a natural RWer compared to Mata who's a central player being forced to play out wide.
That's an actual argument ? it would be like me saying Mahrez helped his team win the PL, something Mata has never done ?

EPL POTY. Definitely elite on his day. If he can regain his form and find that motivation, he'll be absolute quality. If not, the flashes of brilliance he shows time to time is still better than what we have on the right side.

On the contrary, Mata was United's top assists contributor and second top goalscorer last season. He probably would have had more only for the injury. Mata is far from past his best.
But I would welcome Mahrez to United, I just don't see it happening.

Just a little video+article insight on Mahrez's effectiveness on both ends of the pitch / ability to counter attack and burn oppositions on the transition. Don't get where this notion came from it's not a critical element to his game which makes him so successful but here it is anyways:

Or it's possible it's a case of Lukaku where it's just kept quiet until the very moment the move is close to being struck. Such a perfect scenario for both player and club if an agreement were to be reached. I'll definitely be one sad camper if it doesn't happen. Seems like such a logical fit for both parties.

Surprised Arsenal are out (and wish I'd read that before betting on him moving there!) - they seem like they are in a position where they're likely gonna lose Sanchez now and will need to panic buy as a result to somewhat keep the fans happy, Mahrez would seem to fit the bill as a move they can probably get done fairly quickly and easily for a familiar player already accustomed to the PL.
Mahrez has higher ambitions than playing for that sinking ship. Not going to join a team like Arsenal considering the position they're in just for the hell of it. He wants to be pushed and play for a true contender to regain consistency in his form that he showcased just 2 seasons ago. Sure from Arsenal's perspective it seems logical but doubt Mahrez wants anything to do with them.

If you swapped Mahrez's and Hazard's EPL careers around, it wouldn't be far fetched to say Hazard would be the one with "one great season" on Leicester while Mahrez would have "more than that" and be the one who's "kept improving" on a much much stronger Chelsea side over the years ...it's almost as if you're not taking into account the level of quality of teams both players have played on or something? Not hard to imagine Mahrez would have more of those one great seasons if he joined a rising, quality side like United to compliment his talents similar to what Hazard has been a part of his entire Chelsea career...
And as for the he's only had 1 great season, Mahrez has been pretty damn consistent in his tenure in the EPL. It's obvious he's an exceptional creator more than a scorer who for the most part just didn't have a clinical forward except for the league winning year where Vardy and seemingly everyone went off and had the seasons of a lifetime.

Before that one year with LCFC what had mahrez done, where was his consistency then? As Kostur has stated this idea that he is some elite level player is ridiculous. Would I buy him? Yes, I just fear that he was a one season wonder that year, before that he showed nothing, last year he showed nothing, so we take one year as evidence of a players ability.
I will never understand why clubs leave it so late to sell players that want out of football clubs.

Arsenal is fine if they get Sterling out of the Sanchez deal. Leicester is a bit fecked but they should have enough to stay up, worst case scenario is they panic buy someone like Townsend for a load of money and stuck with him for a long time.

So true, modern day football fan thinking.If this is true then he must have a bad reputation within the game. 17 goals and 11 assists in Leicester's title winning campaign, he is now entering his peak years, has played nearly all league games in the past two seasons and gettable at £40m!
