Sort of makes sense though, they could do with some depth I guess, Mahrez can play either in that 352 stuff or they can switch to some 433. He can easily replace Pedro imo.

Castles was a lot more consistently right last summer, it hasn't been his best showing this year.

Yeah of course, it goes back to that Conte whining ever since the window opened, it's obvious something hasn't been alright there for years now when it comes down to transfers.
Mata helped a team in the Champions League. Mahrez never done that.

The club will be targeting a number of players, its not like they suddenly freaked out and grabbed a name at random. Months of scouting and analysis go into these deals.
Mahrez to Chelsea doesn't make much sense to me. He's most definitely not a right wing back and they have Pedro and Willian on the right wing, so unless they're selling Willian, why bring in Mahrez?

When he was getting promoted with Leicester, a year after a transfer to a club he did not know existed (he thought Leicester were a rugby club) for mere £500k, in 2015 while seeing Barcelona win Champions League after a great final against Juventus, I wonder if he thought he would be linked with them for £50m or so just two years later.
Maybe he's off to Arsenal? Wenger really needs to sign someone with all the departures. Even more so if Sanchez goes as well.

And I would agree with you. Find it ridiculous that we wont be signing a wing back. We need a CM also for depth, the Mahrez signing would be good enough for me that I would turn a blind eye to the fact we haven't strengthened other areas (sort of).
Only thing I can see is our centre back options are actually quite strong this year so I think maybe he is planning on rotating Azpi and moses at wing back.
Then using Christensen, Luiz, Rudiger, David Luiz, and azpi at CB sometimes.
It makes no sense to not sign him, Mata can not counter attack from the wings or through the centre where mkh counter attacks from the best and lingard decision making and finishing in final third is shit.

Yeah Azpi is definitely solid cover at both wing back positions. Mahrez just seems a bit of a panic buy to paper over the cracks in this window for Chelsea. But he's a quality player, so you can't complain too much.
I agree he probably is, the sad thing is I actually feel we should've signed him weeks ago though, could potentially have the last 2 PFA players on either wings though which is a positive.
I think drinkwater is likely to come which makes me doubt if mahrez is actually coming though, something just doesn't sit right with me about Leicester selling us there two important players on deadline day.

Surprised more teams aren't in for him. Player of the year a few seasons ago, and comfortably so at that. He didn't suddenly become shit last season, and with a move you'd see the PFA winner again not the disillusioned one.

He was caught on camera in the tunnel at Chelsea before a game saying to someone how great it was and a 'proper club' IIRC.
