Starts summer talking about how he had all these offers from top clubs but he talked to the manager who assured him he is in Madrids plans for this season.
Starts off in side until the aging first choice either recover from the internationals or eased in slowly.
Soon as first choice are ready he plays less and less.
This bumps up his stats which allow people to say 'He played 25 out of 35 games. He is playing regular football.'
Rinse and repeat.

There is a very good chance he comes to United with the possibility of De Gea going the other way. Class defender.

If de Gea leaves we should skip Griezmann and try Oblak instead, a world class keeper is vital.
I don't think it is, at least not as important as past seasons.
Under Mourinho we will become a much more solid team, much harder to beat. De Gea has not been involved half as much this year, a top keeper in the level below De Gea would have been fine for us this year and going forward.

If we have to take someone from Madrid in the other way that would be Kroos/Modric no one else.

Eh? There are 3 sides around us who have non world class goalkeepers, whom have let them down this season and cost them points and a title challenge. If you want us to be an also ran then having a non world class goal keeper will be fine.

Wouldnt want him. He is injury prone. I would rather keep De Gea and not buy one of their bench players. Top clubs dont sell their good players, unless they are injury prone or finished or massively overpriced. And he has not really kicked on, still makes too many mistakes
Would only want him if he genuinely wants to play for us. I don't want another Di Maria situation where we get one of their players because he's pushed out the door.

He's hinted in the past that he does at some point actually want to play for us (or at least did) his plans may have changed when he got a place at Madrid though.

Side question. Say there was a shred of truth in the "DDG going the other way". Where would you stand on that? Do you think we would have gained more tha we have lost in terms of what the squad needs?
I think that Raphael Varane would have a bigger impact on the squad than if DDG got replaced with another keeper?

Our two champions league winning teams since I've been alive have both had world class goalkeepers. They are pretty darn important, although agreed, if we lost DDG under LVG we could have imploded.
Nacho is a really good defender, better CB then Varane imo. He can play everywhere in the back line and he's really fast.
I'd rather get rid of Varane and have Ramos-Nacho as starting CB's.
I think Varane's still unconvincing. Error prone and injury prone. I'm not at all convinced that he'd get better if he came to us. Every now and again be looks like he can be great, then next match the poise and the class vanishes again.

This! If we are to sign a central defender this summer, I would love to get hold of Van Dijk. He looks absolute class whenever I watch him play.
Is Varane still considered one of the best young CBs around? Or is that now an outdated opinion? Haven't watched him at all this season, nor Madrid really.

Robben was injury prone and surplus to requirements. No one thought he would blossom at Bayern. Alexis was good, but not outstanding for Barca. They got Neymar and sold Alexis for nice money. Fabregas the same, never arrived at Barca the way people thought or he wished. Thiago forced his way out, same for Kroos. Both last year of a contract and wanted out. Kroos wanted more money and Thiago wanted to play. Pique wanted back and wanted to play, had Rio and Vidic in front of him. Sir Alex and the club were very nice to him and let him go for cheap money, as our club did at that time with a lot of players.
Varane is injury prone and not better than Pepe and Ramos. Real wont sell him for cheap if they decide to sell him. He has a contract til 2020. All the players you listed had different situations than Varane now. He is their 3rd best CB and Zidane likes him. I dont see it.
Why is that any different to Pique? The club wanted to keep him but the experienced defenders ahead of him we're preferred, so he left. The only difference is on top of that he's slightly injury prone, which you suggested was part of the reason Robben left.
Wasn't it a little bit of club politics and Pique's father as to him leaving Barcelona at that time?

The difference is that Varane is Real's 2nd CB this season, not a sub. He started almost all games when fit, including 7/8 CL matches (injured for the 8th). Pepe was injured a lot, but he was quite clearly relegated to a back up spot and it looks like he'll move in the summer. So Varane is in a very good position for the next season.
