Despite the result that was actually encouraging.

Depends on the standards you set , the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal would be embarrassed at that and call it shambolic.

But from the very low level we are coming from you could call it encouraging , like many on here are. But it highlights just how our standards are right now.

Most of the comments from neutrals and commentators online are along the lines of like watching two pub teems down the local park with all the mistakes from both teams.

We found a new level of conceding from corners.

At least there was some fight. Should’ve been level at the end.

Onana is getting the Shaw treatment. Sign up worse backups and have zero competition. Easily get the "best player" tag.

One thing though, we have to sign an experienced attacker for the goals. Hojlund, Garnacho, Amad too young to be relied upon. I don’t know who but someone in his mid 20’s who knows where the goal is and i’m not talking about gyokores. Rodrygo would be perfect. How much he would cost? 100m?

It's not about standards. Of course it's about progression from where we were when Amorim came in.

Arsenal and Liverpool wouldn't have called it shambolic in Arteta and Klopp's first seasons.

Well, it was entertaining. Looks like we need a new backup keeper.

Defeat but definitely some positives to take out from the game. First half was good in terms of control and possession, but also poor in terms of Spurs' goal. Eriksen had 2 good positions and if it was at least one good shot we'd be level with Tottenham.

First 15 minutes of 2nd half were just terrible, Spurs pressed much better while our players lost their composure due to the early goal. Got better afterwards and even though our first 2 goals came from Forster's mistakes we still brought back the control from the first half. 4th goal felt really bad, probably a combination of a possible foul on Bayindir but also him not being dominant to catch that ball. Great thing is that we got that 3rd goal, surely it's important to have that belief into getting the result and not give up.

It's a shame because this Spurs team (without 2 main CBs and Vicario) were clearly beatable. But we're also in early stage of Amorim's term so there will be more of these kind of results to come.

Pretty neat that they were both on the scoresheet today

We're still not making any chances down the wing. Neither Maz or Dalot in the first half had any interest in going down the outside. We only had a threat once Amad came on and at least on one side we were asking questions of the full backs.

Please Santa, can you get me a LWB and a no10 for Christmas. A loan will do.

Just look at the TV analysis of this , and not just sky , everyone is having a laugh at the shambolic nature of both error ridden teams .

There is a reason both these teams are mid table(that is been kind to us) , the performance from both teams was shambolic , only they were a bit less shambolic than us.

We keep going on about how good we were if we could only eliminate the individual errors , but these players just cannot do that , because this is what they are. I don't think any coach can coach it out of them , they are just sub par players at this level.

We are getting there. Don't know where "there" is, though. In football terms I'm a fairly basic somethingorother, but I enjoyed the game and thought we were pretty good entertainment for most of it. I've enjoyed watching the games since Amorim came in, win, lose, or draw. I know there's a huge conflict between "feels" and analysis, but 'cos I'm clueless about tacticos and positionados, I'm, gonna stick my neck out and say it felt better to watch that game than may recent others. Hope it keeps going in that direction.

A good cup run is always a positive thing, but in the circumstances, I definitely think we are best out of the League Cup.
With a new manager, coming in at this stage of the season, trying to stop a free fall and turn the team around, introduce a totally new style of play and with the busy Xmas & NY league programme already in full flow, the priority must be to get a run of league wins and try and dig us out of the lower half of the PL table.

Nobody likes losing, but we have to take positives out of tonight’s game.
Amorim gets a better look at all his players game after game. Sees for himself who isn’t a good fit and where he needs improvement or to find new players.
Tonight’s game was hard fought in a big atmosphere. Testing stuff.

We can well do without facing Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Newcastle in a semi-final.
There’s a bigger job to do.

The positive side of tonight’s performance, should be used as a springboard for the next 3 league games, which are coming up in quick succession.
This is where managers have to do the hard graft.

Not too unhappy with that. All players are being given the chance to show what they’re about, and the hierarchy will be able to see that some of them have got no future here. Lindelof, Evans, Antony, Bayindir are not of the quality required for varying reasons.

We’ve also got some chronically out of form players in Garnacho, Martinez, Dalot. Eriksen is an odd one as he plays well for a very short amount of time whenever called upon but his legs are gone completely. These need to fix up and quickly, because the structure looks good, our in possession game is good and there is a clear plan. If you’re failing in this, then it’s on you, not the manager, so there can be no excuse.

Mad game, Spurs are shite, random goals, ridiculous xg, not sure how I feel about going out. Might not be the worst thing for us.

Not the sort of loss to be too disheartened by. If the side that played the last half an hour started we probably would’ve won. It was a huge effort from them. Even with the starting eleven we played alright bar Bayindir being useless and the start of the second half.

I can’t wait to see what we look like with two out and out wingbacks.

I love everything about Amorim but for the love if God pick a settled team. Tinkering constantly has never worked in the history of football. Sure here and there but constantly and with do many players will guarantee inconsistent results.im not buying this fitness and trying the players nonsense. Its time to settle down

Is it possible to get a zero added to the ratings for the next time Antony plays.

Serious if we had Onana in goal and anyone other than Antony in the 10, we win that game by a margin

Defensive errors are costing us big time, against Forrest, Arsenal, City and now Spurs

Spurs were shite I cannot wait to play them with a decent 11

My biggest issue with Bayindir isn't he was crap today but the fact that he is most likely the keeper to beat in training. May explain why we are so shit at finishing.

I'm a bit confused. So is it standards or the quality of the players?

Performances have improved under Amorim and are encouraging. We're playing with a structure and are scoring more goals and conceding less than under ETH. Obviously some players need upgrading but that's surely obvious to everyone. It's early days but most of us can see improvements. Isn't that what a good manager is supposed to do?

Tonight's team wouldn't have been one he'd put out in the league and with a half-decent keeper we don't lose that game tonight.

You can bang on about standards all you want but what do you expect from this manager and this squad after just under 7 weeks?

Totally, it felt that way because we are actually starting to play controlled football for the first time in years and are dominating possession in most games under Amorim.

It's the lack of quality in quite a few of the players that is costing us now, as opposed to it being the mix of both the individual errors and playing terrible football under Ten Hag.

Martinez and Dalot are prone to terrible mistakes too often, the back up keeper made more mistakes than Onana on a bad day, and we struggle to offer any real quality in attack aside from Diallo.

I'm usually defend Bruno quite a lot, but I could really see tonight why people get frustrated with him. He was getting space on the left, but trying these 1 in 10 difficult passes/crosses instead of just driving the ball into the six yard box or cutting in and taking a shot/laying it back.

Had we started Onana, Evans and Amad instead of Bayindir, Lindelof and Antony we win that game comfortably. Can’t blame the manager for rotating and focusing more on the league game though, given how shite the likes of City, Spurs and Villa have been top 4 is very much on if we can sort ourselves out.

I don't think this is a bad outcome. Came away with some credit, plenty to work on and less fixture congestion in January. I'll take it.

We'll finish above Spurs in the league and go further than them in Europe.

Fun game.

The league cup shouldn’t be taken too seriously. So no need to go overboard with criticism or analysis of the players.

A lot depends if he was trying to win tonight. If he was trying to win and genuinely thought that was a good team then we have major issues. If he didn’t care and just wanted to rest some players then job done I guess. Onana should be fresh and ready to go at the weekend.

Thought second half we lost discipline and didn’t control game like we want to now.

Fun game, don’t think we are ready to win the cup anyway.

I'll preface this by saying that I've never cared much for the League Cup so losing isn't going to break my heart, but the manner of the defeat is irksome. Dodgy keepers at both ends and done in (inevitably it seems) by a corner. After the win at City, I thought we'd go to Spurs on the crest of a wave but it seems like it's two steps forward, one step back. At least Amorim will be getting a good feel now for who's in and who's on the way out of the club and also who we need to bring in.

Ruben Amorim
"We cannot think in that way that winning silverware makes everything OK. It will be a long way, we are improving, our goal is to win the Premier League, how long it will take I don't know."

Is that a dig at ETH?

…..Performances have improved under Amorim and are encouraging. We're playing with a structure and are scoring more goals and conceding less than under ETH. ………

We are scoring more, but are conceding more goals under Amorim than under ETH.
Our defensive performances have slipped a little.
