I know the squad is thin, but many of these players don't give a sh*t and are not adapting to what the new manager wants, or giving the effort needed. You don't want to change the tactics, fine. But you've got to start making changes to the lineup.
Was hoping that he can play Collyer at some point this game. Might as well throw the youth if the seniors can't do it.

We should gather all of the important people in one room and force them to put aside 5 (maybe 6) players. These are the ones we keep. All of the others are up for sale. We have to take the hit when it comes to transfer fees and losses, but they need to go. We have to get rid. Casemiro has to go, Zirkzee has to go, Martinez should also be on the list of those moving out of the club, and that's just to start with. These players aren't suddenly going to start getting better. They are overpaid and are very poorly skilled professionals. If they were on the market right now, we wouldn't buy a single one of them.

I know we're not meant to talk about Relegation here, but if it weren't for that bottom three, we're absolutely and deservedly in that zone.

Even Ipswich without a single home win this season, had the mettle to turn up today. Southampton have had some close runs, and Leicester... Yeah they're terrible.

At least I've got a catchy title for our eventual hit streaming service documentary: "Nothing, Anywhere, All The Time"

Pre-Mainoo, we were torturous to watch.

I think, to make the best of a dire set of circumstances, we need to play Mainoo and Bruno behind Hojlund and play attackers as wing-backs. Probably Amad and Antony.

I'd play Casemiro next to Ugarte, just to have a passer in the middle, and get Martinez on the bench.

Onana
De Ligt Maguire Yoro
Amad Ugarte Casemiro Antony
Bruno Mainoo
Hojlund

It's far from ideal, but it's the best I can come up with given the limitations and framework we're dealing with.
Actually, i think its not that bad. At least as an option to keep out opponents guessing. Also adding some stability with Mainoo in 10, and 2 dm’s in CM.
We’ve hardly scored (have we at all?) with full backs at wb, and leaking like a sift either way.

For lot of you who didn’t experience 80’s. This is worse. Depressing stuff. Remember, no club is to big to get relegated.
It’s not even close. Won two Cup Finals, had one of my favourite midfields, my favourite player, Hughes, Whiteside.

Apart from a small period under that idiot Sexton, I loved the 80s.

There might be something in that thing about Martinez being too short to play centre back.
What, was he taller two seasons ago, when he was one of the best CBs in the PL? Or you think maybe the problem is something else?

We need to choose to be either solid at the back or free scoring, at the minute we are neither.

I’d go attacking and get some goals/ entertainment back.
Yes he must play wingers at wingback and accept we might lose 4-3 but we might also win 4-3. Using Maz and Dalot there is suicidal

There has not been a manager since Sir Alex that I didn't want to give more time to when we sacked them (aside from Jose, I was ambivalent either way because I thought he wanted to go).

I'd sack Amorim tonight. I think we probably avoid relegation if we sack him. If we keep him it's 50/50 at best. He's taken a group of players most people agreed weree underperforming under Ten Hag and got them performing considerably worse. Literally only sunk cost fallacy and PSR considerations keeping him in a job.

Yes the players are at fault too but this guy has been absolutely exposed by the switch to the premier league.

I agree that we have got worse but I think its too soon to sack him altough if we lose to Liverpool and Saints I think he might be in trouble.

Manager got midfield wrong, we had no legs.

Wing backs offered nothing going forward, I can think of one dalot cross for maguire header.

Hojlund as always isolated and offers nothing.

Wholesale changes needed in this squad

Think tonight was a collective failure of players and manager. He needs to learn from it and some of these players shouldn't be here.

We simply have to buy players in January, we will get relegated playing like that with these players.

I wouldn’t blame manager but yes anyone who believes we can’t go down may get a wake up call, we’re a joke
The manager needs to realise he doesn't have the players to deliver the system he wants and adjust his tactics. Van Nistelrooy managed a tune out of this bunch. Amorim needs to do likewise.

There is no evidence - none - that they are learning or developing. I'd bite your hand off for 17th place at the moment. Everything about this club is a f**king shitshow.

It’s hard to not be disappointed by tonight’s result, but did we really expect any different?

Newcastle have come into form. Coming into the game on the back of three straight clean sheets and 3 or 4 goals per game. Us on the other hand have been in dire form, can’t defend and can’t score. Sadly I think us getting something from the game was always going to be unlikely.

Going forwards I can’t see us getting anything from the Liverpool game, unless this team suddenly performs out of their skins in a derby game. The big game for us comes on January 16th against Southampton. If we struggle in that one, I could see Sir Jim getting twitchy…

We now have a set of players who not only lack belief in themselves but lack belief in one another. Too often we would turn the ball over because when we won a duel the players nearby didn't have the confidence that we would win the challenge and therefore didn't move accordingly.

We need to reset this mentality and focus on winning the next ten minutes each time. Forget the scoreboard and go for winning your tackles, being positive with movement and wanting the ball. We hide behind defenders so we don't have to take a pass in case we feck it up. Amad made a tackle today and played a woeful ball out wide but at least he won the tackle!

Back to very basics. Amorim also needs to take ownership and change his style to suit the players he has until he gets the players he wants. We need to be hard to beat and I said this when he came in. We don't have a goalscorer so need to grind out results. Instead we can't score and are very suspect at the back. A very worrying development.

Wingbacks needs to be changed, sacrifice defence for attack, or simply play ugarte/casa with 4231 till you get some points of the board and get some confidence going. Amorim is forcing these fragile minded professional to do basics which they are incapable of unfortunately

Van nistelrooy played Leicester twice which is nice

Much better in the second half but some players need to go: Casemiro, Martinez, Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee, Rashford, Eriksen…the task is huge

First 30 mins performance was down to our manager setting us up with the wrong line up. Both Casemiro and Erikson in 6s is suicide. Once Mainoo came on alongside Casemiro, the game stabilized a little for us.

For us to be competitive after the manager’s adjustments throughout the game against an in-form Newcastle United gave me hope that we have better days ahead.

Our manager just need to figure out who he can rely on and who to play where. Still early days.

I watched them a lot In 73/74 and I can assure they were very poor, the only thing I will say about that team is that they did put a lot of effort in, but were poor players, now I believe we have a number of good players, but not enough effort and at the moment organization, that’s what Eddie Howe is good at, he is like and upgraded Pulis , or Dyche, hard to beat and run their socks off for 95 mins

I'd probably count that season beyond the 50 year mark. This is right up there since.

This is all part of the INEOS fiendish plan to lower the stock price. We go down, lose all kinds of sponsorship deals, not to mention broadcast rights, value of shares tumble, they buy up the floating stock and leverage a buyout from the Glazers.

Eddie Howe was one of my preferred manager. His team always play with energy and will run their socks off. He has managed English team for quite some time and is doing good. At least the players that he buys can play in the EPL. Ineos/Glazers trying to hire managers to implement a style but first and foremost, can that style do well in EPL? If it can't then what is the point. I think overall United has been mismanaged since Alex left.

Amorim has come in with his system and rather than adapt it to fit his players, he’s decided to run with it and will likely stick with it no matter what hardships he encounters. If Amorim changes his system he’s admitting he was wrong and managers like him don’t like to admit they are wrong. I could see Amorim, like ten Hag, being willing to die by the sword rather than change.

I think that's one hell of an understatement

Another awful performance in an ever growing list of games. First half an hour was terrifying to watch, we settled somewhat once Mainoo replaced Zirkzee and created 3 or 4 quality chances but not really surprised we drew another blank.

Relegation battle is looming which is a very upsetting scenario for the club and the fans to be in. So we have to do something in January to change things.

It’s crazy that we could’ve got back into the game if not for terrible finishing from Casemiro and Hojlund.

Can't jump.
Can't run.
I'm trying to remember how we got a team like this -- can they push up and defend? (while not being able to jump)

Fielding all these defenders depresses me and feels fundamentally un-United.

I can't even look forward to these bunch of players winning in the Championship, they'd struggle there as well!

For anyone who thinks relegation isn't a possibility, better teams then ours have got relegated and on current form we are the worse PL team!
I agree but we’ll survive by default as there’s at least four worse teams than us but we’re awful and if relegated will be totally deserved

Zirkzee Casemiro and Eriksen should never play again. Martinez and Garnacho ain’t up to this system either and maybe sold in the summer. I wasn’t expecting a win and I am dreading Liverpool, but hoping Ineos back Amorim in January

And yet we keep losing games.

He's not good enough.
We're not loosing games because of Maguire in fairness.

We are loosing games because we have no attacking plan at all. I don't see I'm this system and set up with these players where goals are coming from.

Positives
- We looked good in large parts of the game
- Dominated possession in the 2nd half
- Looked confident defensively barring two miniscule moments
- Good distribution from Onana
- Hojlund looked good with his back to goal
- Dalot Offered plenty of width and attacking threat down the left
- Zirkzee looking sharp before having to come off

Negatives
- We lost
- We didn't concede many corners or set-pieces
Dalot - I'm convinced our opponents know he's going to give him next to nothing with the ball and just give him all the space in the world

Zirkzee - wouldn't be sharp enough to cut a paper bag, likely his last game in a united shirt

Honestly it crossed my mind. For United to be appealing for investment, it has to have growth potential. Can't do that when top/near top. Gotta devalue that massively in order to attract investors.

Sigh.
