Fair point, but do you really think it would have made much difference in the grand scheme of things. Ruud just benefited from not being ETH in those 4 games. He was our mini bounce.
It just highlights how scattergun the board is. They keep Hag and his system fine. Then sack him after a few months fine. And then decide that we need to completely change our philosophy and the way we play and bring in a completely different manager, during the busy winter period.

Awful planning. It’s set us back years this. Add to this the hiring and firing of Ashworth and our summer transfers.

The fact that a manager came into the side when he had no time to train a new system. He literally asked to come at the end of the season so he can work over the summer to train the players on the training pitch.

Ruud should have stayed and gone through an interim mode. We could have announced him as manager and let him finish his season at Sporting
It has been the same bs talk for over a decade now.

Moyes, van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer, Rangnick, Ten Haag, Amorim

None of them managed to install a true winning culture again, so maybe it's time to accept that no manager will win anything here if the front office doesn't change drastically.

Liverpool are going to feck us up, wouldn't mind if we started with 9 defenders and two keepers.

Timing, yeah not great I’ll give you that but I don’t think the board set out to change the system per se.
I think they saw a young exciting up and coming coach doing very well and jumped on him before rivals got him. The system change is all Amorim, and that is likely why we’ve had the subsequent Ashworth fall out.

Recruitment is massive.

To be a force in the prem you need players with the right mentality and the right physicality. Teams like Forest Bournemouth Brighton Newcastle have much better squads than us.

We have recruited so poorly for a number of years with players not suited to the prem like Anthony, Martinez, Malacia, Zirkee, Hojlund, Mount,...
Quite ironic 2.dutch players we could have signed went to Liverpool and have been superb there.

Poor recruitment ...needs addressing straight away

That's the way he plays, we all knew that before he signed so surely the club did. I'd they didn't want a change of system why hire him?

Fully agree with this but at least Amorim is calling it out as it is. We have really hyped players into prima donnas and they are so far behind the required level it’s not funny.

I now want to just see some fight in them. No need to celebrate when you (and if) you score. Run your socks off. Challenge for every ball and don’t concede a goal. That’s all we need for the next month or so! No celebrating a win. No partying in the dressing room after beating City! Just get your head down and work hard.

We need to realise that we aren’t going to be in this league if this doesn’t happen. It really is a relegation battle now. I don’t see us winning any of our next 3 games.

Won't matter if they can't compete for headers, track runners, etc. We had numbers in the box for both Newcastle goals, and still they scored.

I don't get it. How can you play for Manchester United and not give everything? Am I missing something?

Bang on! Thankfully, with the possible exception of Zirkzee, last summer didn't set us back loads.

Not to mention Kudus instead of Antony

Just someone I think will turn into a very productive player for someone and I’d rather it be for us.
Based on what evidence?

To be LF under Amorim you need to work like a dog going forwards and back, and have consistent end product.

So, again, what evidence give you faith in him becoming this player?

It's a simple as this. Mental. All rests with the board.

I like his energy, his tenacity, his end product isn’t perfect but then 90% of players his age aren’t but when played consistently he’s one of our higher chance creators and gets in good positions to score most games.

If Amorim is a great manager he’ll be able to get him to pick up his defensive work.

Garnacho has potential be a good player - not sure what evidence you want from him. Agree to disagree and do one.

We're not in a relegation battle, but that's due in part to how bad the promoted sides are this year.

If the gap between the PL and the Championship wasn't so big then maybe we'd be in trouble.

Ollie’s a big boy he can and has spoken for himself.

I’m simply asking what makes him want to keep a player when the evidence of his performances shows that he doesn’t track back enough, he doesn’t score / create consistently enough, has poor decision-making, and bounces off any opposition.

The cost of having Woodward sign and extend players on ridiculous salaries, those who followed merely adopted his methods. Then to cap it all off, they recruited ETH and spent £600 million of Eredevise players , whose highlights probably relate more to the bottom end of the Championship.

ETH signings and his structures are not just suited to the EPL, end Hojlund who has been a goal scorer looks isolated with basically a slow and ponderous midfield, and awful support. How can the team do well with such an awful midfield and a 5’7” central defender, and no decent fullbacks.

As they say, sometimes it has to get worse to get better, how they offload the underperforming and expensive signings is like Chinese arithmetic, difficult and perhaps unsolvable. Fingers crossed that somehow we get out of this mess and can smile again on match days.

So, are we going into a relegation fight?
Not sure were exactly close to being in a relegation dogfight, considering how weak the three newly promoted sides are. However I do believe if there was one thing good to come out of being relegated, it’d be that it’d finally get rid of the Glazer rats possibly.

What exactly are you expecting from a 20 year old? 30 goals a season?

He got 10 goals and 5 assists last season in a poor team at the age of 19/20. I think that's pretty good. Expecting him to be a world beater is completely irrational.

First half performance was the worst I have ever seen in 62 years of watching United. Zirkzee was as bad as Bebe, who I rate as the worst United player I have ever seen. Things did pick up when Mainoo came on, but he can't do it on his own.

Worringly, there are glaring weaknesses in every aspect - can't defend crosses or set pieces, out muscled by stronger and faster opponents, can't pass, can't control the ball, can't score goals. The formation doesn't matter, when there are so many deficiencies. It wasn't down to a lack of effort, simply a lack of quality. The only solution is to replace (again) a significant number of players. It's a good job Newcastle sat on their 2-0 lead, safe in the knowledge that we couldn't hurt them.

Up to now, we haven't been in a relegation battle, but we may well be in January. The same as in the 1973/74 season, when up to Xmas, everyone said that United were too good to go down. We all know what happened and I remember it well, as a Stretford End regular.

Meh, I knew we got no chance after seeing that midfield. No legs with Eriksen, Case and Zirkzee. Granted two are banned from playing today, maybe try Toby or Maz in midfield? Mainoo on the bench is likely a precaution.

On the offensive side, Amad is easily neutralized now when he is our sole attacking outlet. Maybe put him back to WB when we have no other competent WB is the way to go.

Are you and @Fridge chutney paid by Ratcliffe? All you two do is defend them. It’s tiresome.
 I could respond by accusing you of being paid by Qatar, but I neither know nor care if you are or not.

You're lazy. A cursory view of my posting history would show you that you're spouting shit and totally wrong. No wonder posting is tiresome for you.

There was a point in the game when there were literally four (!!!) Newcastle players closing him down. Like Amorim himself said, we've been found out.

Crazy idea, but I'd start Antony or Garnacho WB. We have to try something!

Brain dead morons, the lot of them. Passing, shite, touch, shite, vision, shite, attacking, shite, defending, shite. Pathetic display. Get rid.

Agreed, and I believe this is exactly why Sir Jim brought in all these experienced football minds. Unfortunately, there’s been little evidence to suggest that a clear plan or cohesive strategy has been implemented. It’s likely a big reason why Ashworth decided to move on.
