Shaw 'We gave them too much respect'. Why did we give them so much space?? What type of tactic is that??

Still the same, match after match after match.
We start cowardly, we sit too deep, we don't press, we can't pass to the forwards because they're too far away and we wait until it goes wrong.
When we are losing we start playing better. Reactive not proactive.

Sometimes we manage to come back, sometimes we can't.
We play Juventus who are a very good team and who will no doubt score if they can pass it around at will and we can't attack because we are too deep.

In the second half we were better yet again. I want to know is why we can't play further up the field and actually attack the opposition and put the under pressure from the beginning.

If it happened once or twice ok, but every single match, it is obviously Mourinho's tactics and I am now sick of it.

He has to go as soon as possible.

We got outplayed big time in the first half. We backed down with everyone but they still found ways to threaten us, easy.
Their movement was on another level.
Second half we are more aggressive but to little, to late. Apart from Pogba in the post we did not do much.

If Jose insist playing Lukaku, he should ve used only as a finisher. His touch is out of this world bad.
Matic also had a really bad game, and seems either lazy or tired.
Really hope he drops them.

Lindelöf had a great second half and was our best player along with DeGea and Mata.
Pogba and Martial can be really frustating to watch sometimes, but we need to keep playing them as they are the only one who looks remotely dangerous.

We've been carrying two players through the spine of the team all season. I can't comprehend how Lukaku remained on the pitch again tonight but Matic is providing nothing either. He has the defensive brain without the legs to use it, time and again their midfielders ran off him. Martial was particularly poor tracking runs as well. Manager actually bottled it, he's losing his confidence in his own ability now too. Not good enough all round.

Juventus were beatable in the second half. Probably still stronger at home though.

We done well to only lose 1-0. Progress. A corner turned. A new dawn. ect

So much moaning here. What game did you people watch? Juve better in first, Man Utd in second half, but overall Juve is clearly the better team and it showed. Definitely not a disaster or borefest as so many here are saying.

And I don't see how it's the manager's fault that his attacking players can't dribble or pass in the final third; they were in good positions plenty of times and lacked quality to take advantage. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Having said that; the team clearly gave it their all and played quite well against a team that played two CL finals in recent years. That kind of level will not be reached over night.

Just check the results page.

Sticking a toothpick up your Japs eye will be less painful

Save yourselves of frustrations

Haha

Tbh I didn't see the game much, busy at work. But I doubt there is much in the extended highlights either.

Read the result. It will do. Trust me.

Nothing to watch.

Are you into sado-masochism?

If your answer was yes, go ahead and watch the full 90.

Wouldnt even bother with the extended. Awful.

Don't think it's possible to extend highlights of that game. Dybala scored a tap-in from a deflected clearance, Ronaldo had a shot saved & Pogba hit the post that nearly deflected in off their keeper. That's the highlights.

Just watched the highlights. Summary would be:

We didn't as much as touch the ball in the first half, let alone actually attack. We started trying at about the 60th minute mark but created nothing apart from Pogba's effort. Juve didn't seem to play in top gear for most of the game and comfortably kept us at bay.

Fair assessment?

What happened at OT, did juventus fans take over the stadium?!?!

Btw for those interested, at the end they were having a proper go at mourinho. "Mourinho uomo di merda", put it through google translate

No not all. United fans were loud from the end of the first half and most of the second. Unfortunately United couldn't create anything despite having a lot the ball in the second half so it fizzled out towards the end and Juve fans had a little sing song with a few minutes to go. Barely heard them from early first half.

You guys did no subs either, isn't that a bit odd for Mou? DDG or Lindelöf were your best players for me, as a sidenote.

You summed it up well.

That second half reinvigorated my support for Mourinho. We drew the second half 0-0 against one of the best teams in Europe. Back Mourinho and he will deliver. All he needs is £500 million more and a couple more years and we might be able to nick a 1-0. He is a winner who deserves more time and more love from our fans.

He needs to go. I’m fed up with the negative tactics. We started the game like we was 4-0 up. It’s the same pattern every game. Nothing is going to improve so what’s the point.

Can we please bring in an attacking manager for god sake, we have not had one since sir Alex retired. Eddie Howe would do a much better job.

People blaming the manager :lol::lol:

The line up was attacking.

Get used to it, these players are shocking on the whole. Can't control the ball.

Do you really think Mourinho and Van Gaal have told our players to play so slow?

No. They're simply not capable. Speed of thought and movement is a sign of top players, not tactics, and we don't have it.

How comes Ashley Young can take on his man but Lukaku/Rashford/Martial can’t?

Martial had 2 and 3 men on him every time he got the ball. It was obviously a Juventus tactic and it worked a treat for them.

---

Romelu fecking Lukaku, eh? It's honestly like playing with 10 men when attacking. If anything, it's worse than playing with 10 men because he actually gives the opposition the ball.

The gulf in class tonight was massive. We're miles away from winning any major trophy and this was just a reminder in case we forgot after our historic come back vs Newcastle and draw to an average Chelsea side .

The manager and several players have to go.

It's not the chant, it's fact it felt like it was coming from the home fans how loud and clear it was. That stuff usually doesn't happen at english stadiums

You always hear away end at English stadiums. Tonight was pretty lively at OT. And would have been even better if we don't play as we do at the moment.

That hurt. The team looked inferior in most areas (we had the better goalkeeper).
I hope that this loss doesn't undo the work that we are doing. They are probably the hardest team that we'll face this year (unless we get far in the CL).

:(

Turin next :(:(:(

We're so shit and it's not improving. Sooner the better mourinho goes. I'd just love to see some good attacking moves that cut teams open. Juventus made one move in the 2nd half when Ronaldo shot was saved by De Gea, you would never see Utd put that move together with the one touch football. Thats training ground stuff. Must be doing feck all in training, players look clueless on the ball.

"Men against boys" - Rio
"The sad bit is, there was an air of acceptance about it." - Paul Scholes

Thoughts? I agree totally. Is there anyone who is positive in thinking that we can be any better than we were tonight under the currect management? Did anyone believe we were going to nick a draw? feck, that was a tough watch.

The away end is miked up by the TV stations more than the home end which contributes a bit to it too I think.

Juve must be the best side in Europe at present? Huge quality.

We won't play any worse even without a manager. Things we did on the pitch is beyond bad. We played the game like some kind of "all star friendly", and none of our players had ever played others before. They are playing now only with their instincts, not tactics.

Jose is a fecking coward. Players were afraid and treated the ball like some kind of fecking BOMBS at first half. Second half we attacked but man our attack is just toothless these days like they have no trust and understanding. Some entred the game as we already lost. Lukaku and Matic oh what can I say.. slow slow and awful.

That is enough really fed up with Jose. Saaaaaaaaaaack.

That was especially depressing as playing them reminded me of all those great games we had against them back in the day. Back then we were their equal and sometimes their betters. Now we're miles off and we play cowardly football to boot.

Negatives;

Lukaku... it's like Groundhog Day?! Offers nothing to team unless he scores (which he isn't). No effort, no movement, nothing - he actively slows the attacks down or ruins them. No idea why not subbed/dropped.

Matic. Job is to dictate tempo/direction... didn't. Several shortish passes didn't even reach teammate. No idea why not subbed/dropped.

Lack of movement off the ball. Shaw and Young pushed up in second half but when they get the ball, little option. Compare that to Juve FBs in same position... they have couple of options inside and a player running on for a through ball behind the defence.

Positives;

Lindelof..... steadily improving. Good tonight.

Defence... dodgy for period in first half but considering little midfield protection and the opponents, did ok.

De Gea. Like Lukaku, Groundhog Day.... but in a good way.

Valencia away is the entire group.

Backline much improved, Lindelof was really good. Mata was giving urgency and that was it. Jose playing Matic and Lukaku another 90 without a change in sight. People can say what they want but United are going nowhere under Jose. Not good enough, attacking threat is nowhere near good enough at Old Trafford

Lukaku has never been good enough for a side with ambitions of winning major trophies. Just a lump.

Well, that was dire. Mourinho must be happy though, as Valencia are shite and we are likely to get out of the group.
