Philippe Coutinho

How can someone pay that much for Coutinho? It's really difficult to understand. He is a good player, but nowhere near top class, and I am not sure he can even improve that much from this level. I wonder if Barca actually watched him all that much or just on highlights?
The Barca President really is a fool, a big fool.

Something has definitely happened on the Coutinho front since Pool are going ahead with Keita and news of Lemar potentially also joining. No way they fork out this kind of cash without selling.

If this goes through at the latest rumored fee, then people should stop pointing finger at PSG for making this madness in transfer market. Mbappe + Neymar for similar amount to Paulinho + Coutinho + Dembele is better deal

This.

I mean Coutinho is a magician with the ball at his feet and has flashes of brilliance but no where near worth €150M. He's not even a top20 player in the world. Don't know why Liverpool haven't taken the money and run with it. They should be fortunate Barca are offering such a jaw dropping amount of money when they're the ones in the disadvantageous position with an unhappy player/one who wants out.

Because Dembele is guaranteed to be a much better player barring injuries, and much younger. Hell, he's better right now.

Dembele isn't guaranteed to be anything. He's a 20 year old kid who's had a okayish season for Dortmund, who is now the second most expensive player (in euros) because Barcelona are fecking desperate to sign someone. Dortmund has made a cool €90mill profit on Dembele (without potential add ons), and he's only played one season for them.

If anything, they are drinking champagne off the bodies of some very expensive prostitutes...

Well yes the latter is rather obvious.

Quality > quantity

He was their best player in his first season there at that very tender age of 20 with 8 goals and 18 assists. Coutinho's best season to date statistically was 13 goals and 6 assists.

Sure, they made a handsome profit, but the point is they could've gotten even more knowing the price Coutinho will go for (if it's true).

Second most expensive player (in euro) in the history of football, for a 20 year old they had one season and you reckon they should've gotten more for him.

Do you have a reading problem? It's clear the point of that initial post was that compared to Coutinho's (supposed) price.

Players go for silly prices nowadays. Not that long ago everyone was shocked we shelled out 80m Euro (bonuses inc.) for a relatively unknown French kid.

And i'm commenting your absurd claim that Dortmund will look like idiots of Barcelona spend €150mill on Coutinho, because they "only" got €105mill for Dembele. Get a fecking grip.

It's not even my claim

You are getting riled up for some unfathomable reasons. Idiots were a bit much but the gist of that post was true, they could've gotten even more knowing Barca's desperation and the mountain of cash they were sitting on.

So this isn't what you wrote ?
"LOL, if they sell Coutinho for €150M guaranteed, Dortmund look like idiots."

The package:

€100m guaranteed fee, paid in 10 annual instalments of €10m over 10 years.
Another €30m when he wins the ballon d'Or.
€15m if Coutinho plays 75% of matches in a season when they win La Liga, Spanish Cup and the Champions League.
€15m if Coutinho plays more than 200 matches for Barcelona.

Barcelona's board are crazy. Coutinho is not worth more than 40M euros. What a waste of money.

I think people underrate Coutinho massively on here. Not surprising as they've been naturally downplaying his contributions with him being a Liverpool player for years so to change the tune when he's leaving must be difficult.

However he's their only player in my view who is capable of winning a game from nothing, which is their biggest weakness alongside their fragile defence. He's probably worth 8-10 points a season to them in those tight games with just moments of magic.

Mane might step up and fill that role but i think he's more of a "team" player in the sense that when they're performing well he's great but when they're up against a compact defence he often struggles.

I certainly think it'd take a lot of luck to replace his contribution, irrespective of the sum received. They haven't got the wage structure to go out and buy a Suarez, Pogba or Aguero; so will have to go for riskier options like Lemar who has as much chance of being the next Depay as the next Suarez. Coutinho is irreplaceable when your wage budget is under £200k a week (in my view).

Would I swap Coutinho for Keita and Lemar? Not if my aspirations were winning the title. There's a reason Barcelona have £200m in the bank and are looking at Coutinho over those players.

please don't make out Barca are sharp tacks when it comes to transfers and business. all of Europe will be dismayed if they spend that kind of money on Coutinho

One of the few times I agree wholeheartedly with Mourinho:D is when he said it's not the Neymar transfer that will cause a problem - it's average or good players selling for more than they're worth. It's funny because I think it's Barcelona that will distort the transfer market if this goes through.

When did he say that?

When did he say that?
Obviously I've put the gist of what he said. He was speaking in a press conference right after the Neymar transfer. Don't know if you can find it somewhere.
Basically pointing out that about Neymar's qualities and that (in his opinion) he was worth the money. However, for him, the problem is when clubs want lots of money for average or good players. That he felt would have a negative effect on the market, or words to that effect.

No one is making out that Barcelona are getting some kind of bargain or are being "sharp tacks".

What they are doing is buying one of the best players in his position in the world, which is what their goal is.

Could they buy 3 worse players for the same cost? Of course. Could they buy an inferior player for a third of the cost and be the morale winners? Naturally.

However I'd love to see a list of players who would be better in that position, my view is most of the candidates are either inferior or would cost a similar amount.

Ah, cheers.

Reassuring all Liverpool fans, due to the hours that have passed without reassurance.

Is that true? Those are terrible add-ons for Liverpool.

Source? That is a shit deal, if true.

That's a pretty poor package... why pay over 10 years? Just pay right away.
The add-ons are not greatly designed for Liverpool as well, and we can forget the ballon d'or one.
Liverpool should not sell at this price or with this package.

No way he stays if Liverpool sign Lemar.

They are pushing for a big signing and when they get a breakthrough this man is off.

And where is he ranked on the most expensive list in pounds? And dollars?

Neymar adviced Coutinho against joining Barca.
