I just don't see us selling now. He's trying anything and everything to push this through but the club seems to have dug their heels in.

I expect he'll be back playing like nothing ever happened once the international break is over.
He hasn't got a choice, he has to carry on. Don't think he'll get to the World Cup if he's piss poor all season.

it's funny how last week after the deadline thing farce his entourage came out with the usual stuff about it being forced upon them by Barca and that he would never refuse to play for Klopp etc. Now as soon as the rumours of a fourth bid come up it's back to I don't want to play for youse ever again and all of that jazz. Just goes to show how easily retractable even public statements are, people take them as gospel and yet every day it's something different

Exactly. People don't speak anymore with the press, but rather project what ideas they think will help push their own agenda. They plant messages and know that the press will deliver them right away. It's like when you use an instrument to achieve something. You use a spoon to eat, and the press to get your messages across.

Stay strong FSG/Klopp, resist!

Klopp was willing to let him go as soon as he wanted out. I guess the money is good enough for FSG now. cheers.

I wouldn't have minded keeping him, although I am a bit pissed at him atm. Just happy it looks like we are shopping at Harrods for his replacement.

 You don't want him then?

Even in this absurd market I wouldn't spend the numbers being quoted on Coutinho.

No and I've been pretty clear about that from the start, he's a terrific player but not the profile Barcelona need in midfield. It's a bizarre fishing expedition by a reckless board

what is he missing for you?

what is he missing for you?

He is a purely attacking midfielder, a vertical player that does not control, link between defense/attack or set the tempo in the manner Barcelona play

Maybe I'll be proven wrong but he's not the profile I'd pursue- even the combo of Seri & Di Maria would be much better

Coutinho will join Barcelona before the transfer window closes

A lot of that is also down to coaching. He's been a much more direct player in the past few years. In his first time with us, he was all about uncanny vision for the pass and dropping deep to carry the ball forward. Made more forward passes from deep than any of our other midfielder at one point. He'll not be your metronomic playmaker, but he could be your poor man's Iniesta.

I agree with that. He has similar qualities to the Iniesta that partnered Xavi under Pep. More goals in his locker too. Not quite as good at short passing though.

Well, I think he'll fit right in with you guys. He's not a 138m player, but he's still brilliant and when he's settled I think he could do you a world of good.

You're right, it might be. I actually watched him a bit when he first arrived at Inter and his progression has been interesting.

You'd be better off with the two players Liverpool are using that money to buy.

I'd rather the money were spent elsewhere, not on Liverpool players or targets. I'll just savor the arrival of Ousmane before dreading the squandering of the transfer funds on nonessential targets

Liverpool are being pretty stupid here. Take the crazy sum of money and invest it on defence and other areas of need. Team is doing just fine without Coutinho as is and that's without Lallana as well.

€150M+ or whatever it is...don't be idiots, just take it and move on ffs

They'd have been better off doing that from the start instead of making such a stigma around it. It's a crazy amount of money being offered for a player that doesn't want to be there. Take the money and get on with it, the drama doesn't do anyone any favours.

Declaring they're not a selling club and saying a sale is impossible and completely out of the question before selling him just makes them look daft. It just says that you really really didn't want to sell him but you had to and now you're obviously desperate to replace him. They'd have been better off selling him when they had a great offer, declaring him a luxury and investing the money wisely elsewhere.

When he tweets about a player being almost close to signing for Barca, it's been true from my recollection.

Barca will look in a much better shape now than they were the previous matches. I'm expecting a good season for them.

Could end up making Pool stronger, with Keita(next summer, I know) and Lemar. If they could sneak in a good defender, then they could be dark horses for the tiltle this season.

He can pick locks all over the pitch and thrives with movement and pace around him. He's equally as fantastic in midfield as well in the front three and of course he has a hell of a through ball on him from deep. But you're right, he's not really a tempo setter like Veratti, he does that but in a different way it's a little unique in that he has the abilities to do it from all over and control the final third. It's all there in his locker and his development has been remarkable. Even now he's underrated by opposition fans who don't watch him closely. The price of course is barmy though. Hes much more Suarez esque in that he will try things and has the freedom to of course within the parameters of the system. Would be a dream to see him line up alongside Keita not sure it will happen though.

It looks like we get more money from not accepting their first bid?

At this stage we really need to just take the money and run.

Tremendous slice of luck for Liverpool if this deal goes through. Barca are paying about four times what Coutinho is worth.

I wish someone would bid £40 million for Chris Smalling.

LOL, if they sell Coutinho for €150M guaranteed, Dortmund look like idiots.

How can someone pay that much for Coutinho? It's really difficult to understand. He is a good player, but nowhere near top class, and I am not sure he can even improve that much from this level. I wonder if Barca actually watched him all that much or just on highlights?
