Philippe Coutinho

While a lot of opposition fans are adamant that Liverpool simply must sell Coutinho, because "he'll sulk and be miserable" and because "they're dumb to reject bid 3 times his actual worth", they actually mean "because we don't want to play against him anymore". Fairly evident, right?

But apparently less evident than the facts surrounding this:
  • The club is rich enough now to reject any offer.
  • The club said many times, they'll reject any offer made.
  • FSG said, the club must reject any offer made.
  • Barcelona had an insane bid rejected, yet think that submitting one just tad bit ludicrous will work for some reason.
  • Coutinho's got 5 years left on his contract, and no release clause.
  • Coutinho has to play throughout the season, or risk being left out of Brazil's World Cup Russia 2018 squad
  • Klopp is completely and utterly insane, and believes Milner in midfield will somehow help us get over not buying Naby Keita. Among other insane things he believes in, like Moreno now being a good defender again. Yes, Klopp is insane enough to force Coutinho to train alone or with reserves and play U12 matches.
If these facts won't convince you Coutinho's not going anywhere, then nothing will.

No one prevented him from signing a 1 year contract with Liverpool. Regardless of future events, he voluntarily signed up for a 5 year contract with all the benefits and pay commensurate with such a long term commitment.

No one can see the future, but if this saga makes potential players cautious about signing contracts locking them into multi-year terms while secretly harboring desires of absconding to Spain, then I'm all for it.

Really? When players refuse to renew contracts or something like that people have no problem with the "bench his ass every game in a World Cup year" argument, and when they do sign a new contract to keep being a valuable asset for the club then it's "well, he probably should've thought twice before signing that contract".

There's no debate with die-hard fans, if I can understand why Neymar wanted to leave Barcelona for PSG even when we might not find another player like him in 20 years, surely you can think some kind of middle ground as to why Coutinho would like to leave Liverpool for Barcelona while bringing more than 100M on his way out

I can't speak for others, but I can assure you, as a Utd fan, I couldnt give a rat ass whether he stays or goes. Your club isn't winning anything anytime soon.

People can have actual opinon on transfer, contract and balance of power between club and player without it being tinted by tribalism, you know?

We'll see. I was one of the few people on this site who actually wanted Mane. Also, I predicted Valencia would the best right back in the league last year. I also said Pogba wouldn't be as good as the caf thought he would be last year, which many would say now is correct. I also said Rojo was one of our best centre backs in his first year here when he played there.

And I'll put another prediction in this, we should have signed Salah.

Salah looks effective in Liverpool's system. Even if he does well, that doesn't mean we should sign him.

Again, how do you justify Coutinho at £130 million? Anyone can all reel off things they've predicted correctly.

Because the money is mental in football. If Coutinho improves them to a considerable degree - and he certainly does as he's far better than Deulofeu - and they have the money for him, then he's worth it. The price is always going to be inflated in this market and at this time in the transfer window.

Bear in mind, this was before they signed Dembele.

Nope, I'd like to think most see that Coutinho isn't that good and him staying or leaving Liverpool probably won't make all that much difference to where they finish in May

Didn't know Nostradamus is still alive never mind having an account here.

Good post.

I personally want to see as many quality player in the PL as possible.

I want Liverpool and all our rivals to be excellent but for us to be even better.

Competition makes things exciting.

Watching United v Liverpool with a handful of star players on each team is what I want to see. Not teams full of Fellainis and Milners.

Instead of going for Coutinho, I would've tried to get Thiago back.

Thiago doesn't want to come. Coutinho does. And Barca usually have a thing about players who leave the first team. Not likely to ever come back.

How likely is this to happen ? Doesn't seem like LFC are going to sell. Although they will never get anything remotely that much for him in the future.

Has he been sounded out about a return?

The club only had itself to blame for his departure. It still boggles my mind how that situation was allowed to develop as Thiago's ability and potential is just so obvious.

He's said several times he's happy at Bayern and recently renewed with them. We also have a pretty good business relationship with Bayern as far as I know.

Liverpool is insane for not selling at the price Barca has offered. I can understand why they are fuming over the tapping up (laughable coming from them, but w/e)and what has been reported as a pretty shitty deal in regards to upfront payment from Barca, but still nuts not selling at that price. If they truly don't need the money, than the over time payment structure should be fine and it's an excellent piece of business for them. This market is absolutely insane as well and there is no guarantee that it will be like this next summer, when Coutniho will probably still want out then if he ends up staying this year.

150m. for Coutinho is insane, Neymar money or not. Seems like Bartomeu would do anything now the get rid of the fire that has been lit under his ass.

Liverpool should agree to his request, say "we're happy" it'll keep you fresh for domestic competitions and still refuse to sell. I'd almost be able to tolerate them winning the Chanpions League if Coutinho had self-excluded himself from playing any part in it.

Even with the ridiculous prices this transfer window, 150mil for Coutinho is laughable. Liverpool are dumb if they turn it down.

Liverpool seem to get a lot of these poisonous sort of transfer sagas don't they? Must be horrible for the fans.

If it's still to be paid 20 mil a year for five years guaranteed, and another 50 mil in possible add-ons that are difficult to achieve then it sounds less good.

Sick and tired of Barcelona, they are one nasty obsessed stalkers. Just as things were calming down..mr. shakira comes up with his usual crap. I dont understand why dont they just appoint him as their official spokesperson. He is much better at it then what he does on the field.

No different to Liverpool chasing Southampton players. You don't like it when the tables are turned eh?

Exactly and also its not like his value is going zero next season if he has a good season which he will probably try hard for , considering he would want them interested next yr too. We can get 100miln+ next yr too.

Even if we get few quids more now they are of no use as there is no time left to spend.

Has he sigend for Barca yet?

You have to admire how well he is struggling with his injury playing for Brazil right now, its refreshing to see the lads commitment to the cause. I personally love how he quotes VVD in refusing to train or play for his club again.

Is that Alanis i hear?

Why don't Barcelona call it a day? They're acting like Coutinho is Messi or Ronaldo. Why on earth make a saga for this player?
Just accept Liverpool don't want to sell and move on. Don't they have scouts? Surely that money would be better spent on two good players who fills their needs?

They have this little fetish for Brazilians. They clearly aren't very clever.

Surely another Brazilian player will be along soon? There's always an exceptional player or two coming from that country anyway.

I rarely watch your team (or most others) but it looks like you need a defender and someone in midfield. Surely that money would be better spent shoring up those holes in your squad? Are you telling me there's no other midfielder out there, or is your scouting department worse than ours:D?

I just don't see us selling now. He's trying anything and everything to push this through but the club seems to have dug their heels in.

I expect he'll be back playing like nothing ever happened once the international break is over.
