Philippe Coutinho

Like I said last night, I don't expect most people to have much sympathy for Coutinho given the money he earns. But he is still a human being with real feelings, dreams and emotions. I bet the money he earns at Liverpool feels irrelevant and completely unimportant to him right now.

He shouldn't have signed a long term contract in January then. I bet the thought of raking in all of that additional cash didn't adversely affect his "human feelings".

As a Manchester United fan for over 30 years I've become disciplined in intensely disliking Liverpool, but I'm fully behind their stance with Coutinho.

The little scrote needs to get his head down and win back the fans that pay his wages.

Hard to be sympathetic for a player that just signed a massive new deal. Sure, he'd rather play for Barcelona, but his situation isn't diabolical. He's playing for a club he deemed acceptable to commit to playing for five or six seasons. Made up Liverpool have made him stick to his contract and didn't let Barca push them around. Sure a player has his dreams, but a club has it's objectives and ambitions too and when you sign a long term contract you are sort of expected to honor it and it's the clubs discretion really. Football clubs aren't charities. If he had a year left on his contract or had been refused a pay raise I'd sort of empathize with him.

Yeah all very admirable for Liverpool etc. and it is pleasing seeing PL clubs not sell their best players to Barca or Real as it might over time make Europe more interesting. But in this case I think they might end up selling later for less and they could have used the money to sort their defence and keeper. Missed a trick I think.

So Mahrez, Coutinho, Costa, and Alexis stay with their clubs. Must be great for their dressing rooms to know their top players all tried to escape and are now being forced to play for a club (except Costa perhaps) other than the club they really want to be playing for.

Well if it ends with him being just ever so slightly less committed to the cause, that can still be a result for their rivals. Hopefully Kloppo takes the tough guy approach and makes things worse.

I usually don't buy into the 'footballers are rich so feck their feelings' bandwagon, but I can't help but feel it here. He's hardly in a terrible situation.
Have a heart, staying in Liverpool would reduce most people to tears. He has to return to a dump of a city, deluded fans, and a club where Jordan Henderson is captain and Deidre Barlow is the manager. I don't know how anyone can't feel sorry for the poor guy, no matter how much he's earning.
