Go Catalan press!! Last push.

Coutinho will be added to the squad regardless of what he wants.

Will do wonders for his motivation.

FFS, sell the cnut. Your attack is already good enough without him, spend the ridiculous amount of money on defence and defensive midfield and you'll be much better off as a team.

At this point it is just principle from you guys, and not rationality.

As I said all along, Liverpool will not sell.

It's 2017 and they have plenty of money.

The money wouldn't go far either.

Easier said than done. With a handful of days left... Where's the guarantee that they will be able to secure signings of sufficient quality?

Say they sell Coutinho, and fail to sign even VVD... how does that reflect on the board? Liverpool appear to have no deals in place, and to start fresh now is a huge gamble. Even with obscene amounts of cash.

Does Coutinho lack confidence in himself? If he is really worth what Barca are willing to pay for, shouldn't the interest sustain till December of the summer of 2018.

While everyone is saying that this might be his last chance, do we really know why? If he is a panic buy because they lost Neymar and won't come back for him next season, it clearly shows how much real value Barca attribute to him. He may get replaced pretty soon, if that it the case. The whole narrative of Coutinho goes to Barca and they life happily ever after is definitely not highly probably.

If I was Coutinho, I would take a long hard look at myself and ask if I really belong there. If not, then is it worth the risk? Stability sometimes is very underrated.

This will be scumbaggery of the highest order

Good luck getting any half decent deal done in a week when clubs know you have just sold a player for a truckload of cash. They'll get mugged which whilst not a new experience for em scousers, still not something you want to happen.

At this point you are probably right, simply too late.

Why they didn't do it earlier though baffles me, plenty of cm and cb options out there that would instantly be an improvement for them.

I think this transfer window more than anything highlights KlippityKlopp's shortcomings, the bids put forth for VVD and Keita clearly shows that the money has been made available by FSG, it is just their managers inabillity to identify targets that hinder them.

Their fans will berate FSG for "not investing enough, la" though, and let their saviour Klopp escape free of criticism.

He may never get this chance ever again, but such is life. Once the window closes, he'll play somewhere and will want to be at his standards to ensure his place at the World Cup.

Liverpool are the crazy ones here, even in this market he isn't a £100 million player. The boy knows If he doesn't go now they will turn their attention elseware and his chance will be gone.
Barca have to spend this money somewhere, and they are absolutely focused on him for some reason at the moment.

Liverpool are playing a dangerous game here because they are trying to squeeze every last drop out of Barca, but there comes a point where the amount they are spending can buy a very special player, and not Coutinho.

:lol::lol::lol:

Did Coutinho forget that he does not have rich folks like Qatar to give him money if Liverpool sues him for breach of contract?

Maybe we're all in the dark here and PSG is the team that will sign him. In this case, he does have Qatar paying for whatever fine he'll receive from Liverpool. Another PSG masterstrike. Making it look like Barca is behind this, when in fact the puppet master has been Nasser all along. Brilliant.

Nasser will let Barca think they have him and redirect the plane to Paris right when they prepare to land it on El Prat airport.

Is any non Liverpool really bothered?

They are in a no win situation. They either let Coutinho go and scramble late to spend the cash or they keep a player who clearly wants nothing more to do with the club.. awkward.

This is most likely fake news. Notice it's from a Catalan source. They are probably trying to stir up some mess. I think this will be hard in their dressing room if he isn't allowed to leave.
It's not fake, beIN are reporting this news.

its Liverpool Football Club

It's funny when a tap up club (like Liverpool or Barca) gets one of their own tapped up they go totally mental and play hardball of the highest order.

Barca just following the food chain here - Southampton-Liverpool-Barca

I wouldn't say that.
I would say that this is player who is desperate to take his career to the next level.
He wants to play in Barca (most footballers would want to do this).
If the sale does not go through this Summer, then he may miss the boat and be stuck in LFC for a few more years. In life, you need grab your chances and that's what he is trying to do.

It's annoying that this needs to be repeated over and over again, but if a move to Barcelona was that important he shouldn't have signed a contract with Liverpool.

How could he have known at the moment when he signed his new Liverpool contract that Barca would end up selling Neymar and coming in for him? They probably wouldn't have if they didn't sell Neymar, and no one saw that one coming.

Damn, seems like he hasn't bought into the idea of Klopp's brilliant press-and-run-'em-to-death tactics taking them to European cup glory. It seemed so obvious when they beat mighty Hoffenheim.

No one prevented him from signing a 1 year contract with Liverpool. Regardless of future events, he voluntarily signed up for a 5 year contract with all the benefits and pay commensurate with such a long term commitment.

No one can see the future, but if this saga makes potential players cautious about signing contracts locking them into multi-year terms while secretly harboring desires of absconding to Spain, then I'm all for it.

Barca had interest before they lost Neymar. If his long term plan was to join Barca he should have planned accordingly.

I cant remember another transfer saga like this where the player has pushed this much for a move, he's basically making it impossible for him to still be there after the window shuts

At first I was thinking Liverpool were going to dig their heels in and keep him, but now they've signed James Milner it looks like the writing's on the wall.

Coutinho is pushing for this for obvious reasons.

1) He really wants to play for Barca. Typical of many Latin American/Hispanic/Mediterrernean players.
2) He knows Barca have the money to spend but next summer, they won't.

Its now or never. Either he pushes hard for his dream move or he never gets it. And probably languishes at Anfield getting top 4 now and again, or if he's lucky, someone like Juve flash the cash in 1-2 summers.

Truth is, he isn't a world class player. This is his one and only moment to move to a world-class club.

No way Liverpool let him sign a 1 year contract, his only option would have been to run down contracts. If you think players will no longer lock themselves into long term contracts I agree with you, but I don't see this as a good thing. With clubs not willing to sell their players, even when they ask to go, players will start wanting shorter contracts, and this puts clubs in a more difficult position and we will likely see the value of players drop as their contracts shorten.

I don't agree with that at all.

Players sign long contracts for two reasons:

1. Security - any player is a mistimed tackle away from a shortened career. They want to guarantee as much income as they can.

2. Clubs negotiate longer contracts because it offers them security. As we all have seen many times, the longer the contract the bigger the transfer fee if they are forced to sell. In order to persuade the player to sign a long deal they offer big signing bonuses and higher wages.

So a combination of the two mean clubs will never have any problem signing players on long deals.

£120k a week on a three year deal = £18m gurateed earnings.

£150k a week on a 6 year deal = £42m guaranteed earnings.

Which one would you sign? Would you worry about it being a bit harder to force a transfer or would you worry about that later?
