Philippe Coutinho

Who was the Liverpool fan who was on here repeatedly refusing even the vague notion that he would go this summer?

Probably feels a tiny bit silly now, as the best result is he does go, and for huge money.
Otherwise you have him hanging around gutted, probably a bad influence, and you have a heck of a job getting him back on side

I remember one called, 'The Barnacle'(Barney reincarnation?). Now banned.

Your opinion of Martial's talent is funny.
IIn a world where sigurdsson and walker is going for 50m, martial is worth more despite last seasons dissapointment.
NO way is Coutinho worth twice + more than Martial.
Davidson Sanchez from the dutch league is going for 45m pound. Am pretty sure United won't even sell as this market will get even worse.
Signing squard players is now 50m pounds.
Sigurdsson and Walker were better than Martial last season.

The guy is worth in today's market about 60 million. Just take the 90 million.

Because none of them did well here. Martial was one of our best players in his first season and is still just 21.
Martial hasn't done well here. Not "60m pound well" anyway.

He scored the other day so I wouldn't sell him this window but let's not act like he was ever absolutely outstanding and would command a 120m fee. That's delusion.

Sigurdsson was better than Micki last season, is he worth more than him?
Football wasn't invented last season.
Transfer fees aren't always to do with how talented a player is.

Contracts play a massive part. If Mkhi has 1 year left on his deal, he might only sell for 30m. But if he has a 5 year deal, it could be 70m. I wish people would understand this.

I'm not? Still makes no sense to sell Martial at a loss.

It looks like he might not feature as a starter in Mourinho's team.

Like I said, he did good against West Ham so we'll see what happens tomorrow. If he's not gonna play every game, I don't see the point in wasting him on the bench when we could get our money back. Let's face it, Mourinho didn't sign him after all.

That's a joke offer considering they got the €222m, everybody is aware there are in a very bad situation and desperate.

I'd tell them €120m without any addon BS or feck off.

Barca having an extra €222mil in the bank is irrelevant in regards to if their offer for Coutinho is enough or not. It's not like they would offer more for him than they think he is worth even if they had €2bil to spend on transfers.

I'm supporting Liverpool in this. They don't want to sell and they shouldn't. Let him rot in the reserves. Players need to respect their freaking contracts.

He could be a Utd player for 10 or more years

But thankfully he scored last week so happy not to sell right now

You may have said this already, but what do you think is the correct price for him? Someone here said 82+36 (addons) is what was offered. What would be the price where you'd want to sell at?

£120m cash, no add ons and we simply can't refuse. Anything else and we can easily make the no deal call. Is he worth that? No way.

Only problem is this is a sellers market and Liverpool won't see it that way. Barca will have to pay up or look elsewhere, it's simple as that.

I agree with you but players and agents have become stronger than the teams themselves unfortunately!

While I agree to some extent is making a statement like that from the club worth €100mil or whatever they might get for him? It could also hurt potential new signings who might just want to sign short term contracts in fear of the same thing happening to them, which would make it very difficult for the club to build a team in the long run.
It's a tough position to be in for Liverpool, that's for sure.

Problem is that Liverpool will get mugged as it is. Too late in the window and other clubs would know that he just received wads full of cash.

Yeah they would but similar to Barca, they've got no choice but to spend the money and if you use the Andy Carrol logic. It's PSG's money. If the player wasn't too bothered if he stayed then yes refuse to sell.

What? Martial won't go for that fee. 50m tops.
They are paying for potential. We are at a premium to charge what ever we want cause we are talking about how the player is going to turn out in the "future". 50m is nowhere that fee for Martial.

Would love it if somehow Barca dont end up with any of their three proposed targets this summer - Verrati, Dembele and Coutinho. fecking cnuts.

Why £120m though? Why not £110m or £130m?

120 seems totally arbitary.

I can't comprehend why you would offer and/or reject over £100m for him. I'm legit stunned.

At least you know, Neymars insane marketability over 10 years and the fact he's clearly top 3-5 tier would allow me to somewhat swallow up the £200m deal for him. But Coutinho is neither of that....he's bite their hands off for £80m in an inflated market while you can. Next year he's back to being a £45-50m signing.

I am enjoying both those scenarios though. :D

Barca: '£90m is our best offer'
LPool: 'Didn't you just sell Neymar for something stupid?'
Barca: 'Ok you win, £100m is our final offer'
LPool: 'I could have sworn it was like £200m?'
Barca: 'Si si but Paulinho...'
LPool: 'Understood. Neymar fee minus Paulinho fee = our fair and reasonable price'

Barcelona announce signing of Griezmann for £100m....
Only flaw is that this Griezmann clause is £100m only in January. Right now, it's £200m.

I really really hope both pool and dortmound stick to their guns and refuse to sell. Barca can't expect to bully their way into the transfer market and openly tap players up

Really surprised Liverpool have rejected a bid in the region of £114 million for Coutinho, that's a fair price to be honest.

Why reject that ? If only to make a statement I think that's short sighted, the player clearly wants to leave, sell him & use the funds asap before the window closes.

On a side note £89 million for Pogba is looking like a bargain.

Liverpool need Coutinho far more than Coutinho needs Liverpool. If they are making a stance with him and flat-out refuse to sell, he'll be parachuted back into the team ASAP. Klopp is only stubborn towards players he feels are disposable, e.g. Sakho. He never had an issue playing Lewandowski, Götze, re-signing Kagawa etc.

£114m for Coutinho, even if £25m or so is add-ons, is a ridiculous offer.

Doubt that. Barca's revenue for 16/17 is €708M

85% of that would be in the region of €550/600M, seriously doubt Liverpool got anywhere close to that...
KingMinger's idea about clubs spending power has been off for a while.

Liverpool should sell Coutinho and use the money to get Draxler. Why have a malcontent on their bench.

Hillarious situation all around. He is what I'd consider a top player and on his day (which is every now and again), a world class player and Liverpool losing that threat is good enough for me and the reactions of the RAWK type fans that think he's Zico/Socrates/Pele rolled into one. They will squander the funds again like they did with Suarez as they don't have the pull that other top clubs have or a great scouting network.

I think they can hold out until 150 m , Barcelona should be rinsed so they could not sign both of them together.
