Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho is underrated on here. He's the only player in the Liverpool squad who has the ability to run a game and whom possesses that star quality that only the top players have. Without him, our possession average has lessened heavily and we've become far more direct in the two games we've played thus far.

If we could have got VVD, Draxler/Ox and Keita in then I'd sell him - and I think the club would have too. But those deals are highly unlikely and as I've maintained all along - it's too late to sell now.

As for sulking next season - well it's a World Cup year. He'd fall back into line by the first week of September.

.....And he's overrated by Liverpool supporters.

I expect Barca offered about €28m of add-ons in their bid. They are determined to keep the upfront fee comfortably below €100m, and Liverpool probably want them beyond that barrier.

Barca will win in the end. Coutinho will never play for Liverpool again whatever happens now, and you can't blame him.

This is insane. 120m for Coutinho? And it was rejected?

If I were Barca I'd now shut up, and offer 70 on the 30th, take it or leave it.

I think he'll stay now. The club won't sell an important player this late in the window and with no replacement lined up as well. If that is the case everyone associated with the club needs to hope he is ready to be integrated back into the squad.

I am actually quite pleased they rejected that. Absolutely ridiculous amount of money for a player who is probably not even in the top 20 for world football.

you must be a fecking terrible negotiator.

Or if I was Barcelona I'd prefer to just get the transfer done. We all know they'll pay up eventually so why waste time if you're them, get it done as soon as possible.

Liverpool turned down the opportunity to sell Coutinho for €125 million!? Talking about looking a gift horse in the mouth. With that cash they might be able to buy enough top class defenders to cover up Klopp's inability to coach defending!

Coutinho isn't even better than Mane. Really good player but if they sold him, bought Draxler and some decent defenders, they'd be fine. This stubborness of theirs is both silly and, from a United fan's perspective, really funny.

Looks like Barca learned their lesson of trying to pick on clubs with bigger (financial) sticks than them.
Liverpool's sticks are tiny; it's like seeing a bully get put in their place and then going to find a new, weaker target to pick on.
It's funny because it's liverpool.

I disagree completely.

I think he stays 100%

Liverpool make plenty of money and just got a massive boost from the new PL deal.

They will make 85% of what Barca make this year.

I thought Pool might give in for such a big bid. I do think that Pool might regret missing the chance though :)

He'd be lucky to make the top 20 in England, let alone the world. Not influential enough to lead Liverpool to any silverware during his time, or good enough to make the PFA team of the season in the last couple of years, yet they're turning down the 2nd biggest transfer fee in football history? The madmen. Could be a bigger transfer market error than Andy Carroll.

Imagine making £120 million profit on a player, and that player was Coutinho. They should be biting their hand off.

Over on RAWK, they're having a go at Barcelona for making a bid the day before Liverpool play a match.

Erm... your little Phil handed in a transfer request the day before Liverpool played a match last week!

They are beyond help over there.

It's funny because it's liverpool.

Let's not forget the parallel saga going on with Dembele at Dortmund.

Even funnier that Barca is bullying both, 'cause Liverpool and Dortmund had a sickening love-in during the EL. Tied by fate.

How the hell did this guy become so overrated? Is it because he stands out like a sore thumb in an otherwise mediocre squad. I'm genuinely not saying this as some kind of WUM, it just baffles me.

Or is it more to do with the fact that Barca are so desperate that they're just willing to bid anything to get someone in? Crazy stuff.

The 2nd most expensive player in the world? Fecking hell.

I seen on RAWK someone saying that Coutinho will get annoyed if Barca make a reasonable bid and it's rejected.

If they make a reasonable bid.

This Neymar fee has really created delusional transfer expectations.

I think he will likely stay and hope he will, with 150 million Liverpool will get a decent player or two even with their transfer record and I'd much rather they have an unhappy player and can't use that money to add some quality and depth to the squad.

Also son't like Barca so would be nice to see them have a window where they lost Neymar and could only sign Semedo and Paulinho

Sell him and overpay on two quality defenders. I was on Liverpool's side but that's too much money. What are Liverpool even hoping to achieve if they keep Coutinho? If it isn't a league title then move on and build for the next few years. An extra 12 months doesn't really amount to much.

The right hype and crazy transfer window where fullbacks are going for 40M plus.
Besides Barca paid 36M to get Paulinho.

Yeah, in a window of huge inflation and crazy transfers, that Paulinho one really trumped them all. Barca are so desperate at the moment.

Barca: '£90m is our best offer'
LPool: 'Didn't you just sell Neymar for something stupid?'
Barca: 'Ok you win, £100m is our final offer'
LPool: 'I could have sworn it was like £200m?'
Barca: 'Si si but Paulinho...'
LPool: 'Understood. Neymar fee minus Paulinho fee = our fair and reasonable price'

Barcelona announce signing of Griezmann for £100m....

What would Pogba be worth in this market when Courtinho goes for 118m?

If Coutinho handed inn transfer request, he is clearly not keen on staying in Liverpool.
I don't understand how they can reject such huge offers for a player who wants away.
If they spend the money on defensive players, they'd instantly become a much better side.
Imagine them with a good gk and good defense, with their great attack!

34 goals and 29 assists in the league. They are good stats for the 2nd most expensive player in the world. *(if they weren't spread out over a 5 year period)

Yeah i'm glad you added that caveat the end there. Not that impressive in context. Look, he's a very good player on his day. Vastly overrated and wildly inconsistent, but good nonetheless. But no way, no how is he worth anywhere close to that.

But this transfer window is just barmy. Coutinho ffs!

This one is getting great. Paul Joyce reporting(the most reliable scouser journalist) saying that Coutinho has told Klopp that he won't play for Liverpool again.

Also that Liverpool bid was 82m straight fee plus the rest of 36m were in addons.

Add ons like Coutinho winning the balloon door. They can feck off with that and they have been fecked off within 5 minutes of bidding. :D

I guess with the 2018 World Cup on the horizon that might be one reason why Liverpool could fancy testing his bluff.

As I guessed, a big chunk of the money reserved for possible later payouts which be dependent on appearances and performances.
